Relationships aren’t rocket science. If they were, I might stand a chance of figuring one out. Elijah Saying I’ve had a crush on my best friend’s older brother, Pax, most of my life is like saying the big bang was just an explosion. It’s true, but I’m not sure that quite captures the essence of its true enormity.I know he’s only hanging out with me because I’m new in town and getting my PhD … because I’m new in town and getting my PhD doesn’t leave me with much time to make friends. And even if it did, my strength is mathematics, not friend-making. What I don’t understand is why he kissed me… why he seems to want to keep kissing me. I don’t think my advanced physics knowledge is going to help me figure this one out. But I think for once I’m okay with not knowing, as long as Pax and I don’t know together.
Pax
He’s still the awkward Nerdlet I remember…he’s also probably the cutest, most tempting man I’ve laid eyes on. I know I should keep my hands off him, but this thing between us is like a force of nature. I want to be his first everything. He says we’re nothing more than atoms crashing into each other. I’m no scientist but I don’t think either of us are braced for the explosion.
**** Rocket Science is a stand-alone MM romance featuring an inexperienced nerd, a cocky player, and a satisfying HEA

Within the first few pages, I knew I was going to love this book. The characters sucked me right in, and this baby is packed full of trope-y goodness that didn’t feel at all forced or contrived. There were some really unexpected moments I adored (but no spoilers here!), and these guys were both hot and sweet together. The steam is very satisfyingly steammmmmy and perfect. Kyleen always seems to nail pacing, too, and this story was no different. It’s a page turner, for sure. Just loved everything about this one from start to finish, and I cannot wait for the next book.
Gah, all the feels for this one. It’s a best friend’s brother romance between an adorable nerd and a cocky player, and the two of them are everything together. Sweet, funny, sexy, and with a very happy end.
When I picked this book up recently, I was probably the only person left in the MM universe who hadn’t ready a book by this author. When I got to The End, I was pleased to have rectified that.
Rocket Science was a fun, very low angst, easy read. Likeable characters who often made me smile, I enjoyed being part of their journey from the realisation of their feelings for each other, the suppression of said feelings, to their revelation. Along the way there’s lots of sex – lots and lots of sex – but for this book it worked. If I’m honest, I often get plain bored when there are a lot of sex scenes in a book, simply because they usually end up being repetitive with more than a feel of ‘insert sex scene here’ but that was not the case with this book. Each scene served a purpose, beyond the obvious, so kudos to the author for getting it right.
Recommended!
Rocket Science, is one cute and hot AF story!
“We’re nothing more than atoms crashing into each other.”
Elijah, a nerd who understand science but doesn’t understand social interactions. Who think’s that rocket science makes a lot more sense than trying to hook up with someone.
Pax, a man who loves his job and loves to celebrate with a different man each time.
I’m not sure what I was expecting when I started Rocket Science, but wow! I really liked it! It’s so adorable cute, and the bedroom activities are beyond hot!
I really kinda fell for Elijah and Pax (the 2 mc’s). I loved Pax’s nicknames for Elijah (Einstein and Nerdlet), and how when he teased him it was all in fun and never in a mean way. It was great the way Elijah picked up on Pax’s inner-nerd and him actually being really smart as well. I was surprised by and loved that Pax seemed protective not only of Elijah but his other friends as well. I guess I underestimated him because of how he was portrayed as not committing to relationships. Their chemistry was off the charts which made way lots of steamy scenes. I think they made a really sweet couple and were perfect for each other. Plus there’s a great epilogue 4 years down the road!! This was my first book by this author and I definitely want to read more!!
Again I’m still new to the audiobook world but I thought Zachary Zaba did an awesome job!!
Still one of my favorite books of all time.
Awkward nerd? Check.
Best friend’s older brother? Check
Equal parts steam and swoon? Check.
What is it about this author that makes me soooo addicted to her books that I just can’t stop reading and stay up way too damn late to finish the entire thing?!? This is the third book I’ve read by this author and I’m pretty sure I have to go read every single book she’s written now.
I was super invested in these characters. Elijah (23) moves to California for school and his best friend asks his older brother Paxton (31) to hang out with Elijah since he’s new in town. They hit it off and end up texting and hanging out a few more times and then things get a little steamy. The thing is that Paxton is a manwhore and Elijah is a nerdy virgin, basically opposites of each other.
Oh and there’s the fact that Elijah’s best friend, Theo, has been in love with him since they were teens. But Elijah has no clue… so much complicated.
Pax is determined to keep it casual but he catches feelings.
The end is cute and I loved the epilogue. All of the other characters introduced were also great. I’m so excited to read about Theo getting his HEA. I felt a bit bad for him that he seemed so sad around Elijah… it felt like he still might’ve had some feelings there.
I kinda liked Pax but also kinda didn’t. I don’t always love manwhores who only hookup and aren’t the “relationship type” and Pax has also cheated on previous boyfriends more than once. So I kinda had mixed feelings about him. Especially since he was so worried about possibly cheating on Elijah. Grrrr… made me a bit angry.
But they seemed to work together and they love each other and it was still cute to read. Definitely enjoyed this one a lot. 4.5
can I just say I love love love this book. Pax, I had to grow into but Elijah was adorable. The author did a great job proving how much you wanted to both shield him and corrupt him because sometimes I thought he was so adorable I wanted to hug him and tell him I would keep him safe and other times I wanted to corrupt his innocence. He totally made the book for me. I loved his awkward nerdiness. And Pax was cool, he wasn’t perfect in the past but I like that he wanted to be better for E. All in all a sweet, and steamy, romance
A lovely and charming book with great characters, sexytimes and low angst. Just what I needed to read!
I think this is my favorite K.M. Neuhold book yet. It has just the right balance of hot and sweet, and gave me that achy feeling in my chest that tells me when the tension level is perfect.
Snarky, flirty, sexy, and just plain fun.
Highly recommend!
This is a best friends older brother story which I love. Pax is the type of guy who stays away from any type of serious relationship. He travels a lot on business and pretty much lives on a diet of random hook ups. His brother Theo asks him to look after his best friend Elijah who is a smart nerdy type with very little social skills. Elijah has had a crush on Pax since they were teenagers, so when they start hanging out he is happy to be around Pax, but when things slide into flirting and kissing, he has a hard time believing Pax would want someone like him. These two decide to try a casual relationship but they both start getting way too attached. All the reasons that Pax had for avoiding anything serious don’t seem to matter any more with his nerdlet. Pax may come off as a player at first, but he does some really beautiful romantic things for Elijah. I loved their story and I’m happy that they got an ending that they deserved.
Elijah is a shy, nerdy, 22 year old who is just starting his Ph.D. at CalTech. When his best friend’s older brother, Pax, starts hanging out with him, his teenage crush comes rushing back.
This was a quick and easy read. I really liked nerdy and awkward Elijah. His awkwardness and insecurities in social situations and around strangers was so relatable. It was nice to watch him grow and come out of his shell with Pax. He will always be the shy and awkward nerd but he still grows and becomes more confident in himself.
Pax is a 30 year old bachelor who loves his traveling job. While I really loved Elijah, Pax was a different story for me. I liked him until he admitted he has cheated multiple times before. This is usually when I would DNF a book but I was actually enjoying the story so decided to continue to read it. He does discuss this with Elijjah but I just lost my love for Pax after that and it really shadowed the rest of the story for me.
Overall, this was a quick and easy college romance. While it does have a few issues I still enjoyed the book.
Rocket scientist student, total geek virgin, wasn’t looking for love, but….
Business man and family friend, not looking for love, bit of a playboy. The two are so different but….
The narrator is new to me but easy to listen to, although I did have to turn my speed down to 1, where I listen normally at 1.2.
Rocket Science is fluff. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Especially when said fluff is entirely honest and out about its own fluffiness.
So, this was a 100% cute and feel-good story. I chose it as a comfort-read. I wanted sweet and simple, nerd+tattooed hunk, hot shenanigans and safe predictability. And Rocket Science hit the spot. Cute and sexy with a HEA.
I liked this read. I liked the characters, even if they weren’t all that well developed. The story line was predictable AF which was exactly what I wanted.
But – and I never thought I’d say this – the book would have benefited from a little less sex and a little more story.
Now, I wasn’t expecting anything profound, I didn’t want substance. But the supporting characters were pretty great and I would have loved to read more about them and their interactions with Elijah and Pax.
Instead, there was this total focus on the Pax-Elijah sex-bubble.
Don’t get me wrong, I like to read about D just as much as the next girl. But it’s usually a win if the sex is a natural part of the story line, instead of having a sex-fest sparingly sprinkled with story.
So because of that, it was a bit of an uneven read. I really enjoyed the beginning where Elijah and Pax circled around each other. All of the I-want-him-but-he’s-my-brother’s-best-friend angst from Pax and the He’s-so-hot-but-he’s-just-hanging-with-me-out-of-sympathy anxiety from Elijah. It was sweet.
But then the sexing began, and granted, it was fun at first. But I got bored pretty fast because it just went on and on.
Finally, the story started up once more, and I crushed on the book all over again. And, even with its ups and downs, my overall impression of this book is still that of a super sweet pick-me-up.
There’s no doubt that Neuhold is a great writer and talented storyteller. A nerd meeting a (in essence) jock is a somewhat silly and clichéd trope, but she still managed to entertain and engage. So if you’re looking for shallow, feel-good entertainment I definitely recommend Rocket Science. Despite the high shag percentage.

In Rocket Science, nerdy physicist Elijah moves to California for grad school where his best friend’s playboy older brother Paxton tries to get him to come out of his shell. Their friendship turns to sex which turns to romance. The book went a few directions I didn’t expect – in a good way – keeping me on my toes as to the trajectory of their relationship. It was far from a straight line to love. Paxton and Elijah had wonderful chemistry, and I appreciated that Elijah may’ve been a virgin but not a prude. Rocket Science is a light and sweet read, and now I want to call everyone Nerdlet.
If nerdy dorks are your thing and you love a first time love – look no further. The nerdlet who has always adored his best friend’s older brother finds himself being forced to spend time with the object of his affection to learn to socialise and find people to hang with. Hell – he may even find someone to have sex with for the first time. But Pax doesn’t want to share his little Nerdlet.. and things get sexy, hot and steamy really quickly. This book has all the feels and one of THE hottest outdoor sex scenes EVER. Zachary Zaba’s narration is great and adds a new level of sweet and sexy to the book in the Audio version.
A socially awkward nerd moves across the country for grad school and is reunited with his long term crush/best friend’s hot older brother.
When Elijah moves across the country for grad school, his best friend asks his older brother, Pax to look out for him and make him socialize. Pax has always been a total player and considers himself “not boyfriend material”. But something about the sweet and innocent Elijah keeps drawing him in. I loved seeing the progression of their friendship and exploration. As they both pushed each other out of their comfort zones and grew in confidence in areas they were lacking.
But they are also both not confident in the areas of communication, love, and commitment. And it is more complicated due to the ties with Pax’s brother. Is it just lust or something more?
This is a sweet, steamy, and heartfelt opposites-attract and best-friend’s-older-brother story. I am looking forward to more in this series. I enjoyed their friends, Hudson, Bishop, Seph, Alex, and Pax’s brother, Theo.
I loved Rocket Science! The story of Pax and Elijah was so sweet and sexy. K.M. Neuhold gives the reader such wonderful characters who are falling in love and portrays all the intricate nuances that make up relationships.
Elijah is sweet and innocent, smart and socially awkward. He moves to California to attend school. His overprotective best friend Theo gets his older brother to check in on Elijah. Unbeknownst to Theo, Elijah has been harboring a wicked crush for Pax since middle school.
Pax is hot, smart, and charming. The perfect salesman. He travels for work … a lot … and does not do relationships. When his little brother calls and asks him to look after his nerdy best friend, Pax agrees, thinking it will just be a one time good deed. Until Elijah walks into the bar looking like a fallen angel straight out of Pax’s fantasies.
What ensues can only be described as steamy, sexy, romantic fun. This story was well written. You will fall in love with both of the main characters. Just plain fun and sex and love.
I’ve gotten into MM romance lately and this one gave me ALL the feels. I immediately loved both main characters. The romance and steam was on par. I didn’t want this story to end. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys MM.
Adorkably fun, fairly low angst read. While 8 years might be a little close to be considered May/December, the fact that Elijah is still in college (PhD as a – you guessed it! – Rocket Scientist) and a virgin while Pax is experienced and established gives this book all those May/December feels.
This was an easy read with a lot of fun in and out of the bedroom (or wall, or car, or ) Even a few tears from me as poor Elijah dealt with his social anxiety born of years of teasing and mistreatment in school.
I’m looking forward to Bishop & Hudson in Four Letter Word and hoping Theo gets a book at some point too.
