The most famous rock star in the world has finally found the one, but secrets from his past threaten to ruin both their lives in this “heart-pounding romance” (Fresh Fiction). I’m not who you think I am.
Shane Hawthorne has it all. At least, that’s what the headlines say about me. I have millions of fans, awards, more money – and women – than I know what to do with. But what you don’t see is … more money – and women – than I know what to do with. But what you don’t see is the wreckage I’ve caused. The memories and pain I can’t escape, even when I pour them into music and spin them into gold.
I tried to forget. To lose myself in booze and groupies. It didn’t work. It hurt me and – worse – it hurt my band. That’s the last thing I want to do, so I’m cleaning up my act… starting with Delaney Fraser.
Gorgeous, smart, drama-free, and even nice – Delaney is the perfect “girlfriend.” When I’m with her I don’t have to pretend. It’s like she sees the real me. And I can see a future with her. But that’s dangerous. Because the truth is, Shane Hawthorne doesn’t actually exist. He’s a shield to hide who I really am. Fraud. Runaway. Addict. Murderer.
And it’s impossible to love a lie, right?
The Nothing but Trouble series:
Rock King
Rock Legend
Rock Rebel

Rock King is simply amazing. It is intriguing, yet suspenseful with that romance touch that just makes the book, that much more enjoyable. I couldn’t put it down.
Shane is a rock star who hides secrets not many people know about. Shane portrays that typical rock star with his ideal images of the groupies and typical rock star music fans. Delaney is a waitress that just happens to find herself in the right place at the right time (although she doesn’t know it.) She hides secrets herself that she fears could destroy her. The portrayal of a “hired” girlfriend fulfilling a contract took me to the “Fifty Shades of Grey” books, but without the BDSM and typical contract settings. But this book was so much more than that!
While this book was sexy and romantic, it had intense character moments that just kept you gasping for more. Shane and Delaney will hopefully be a part of the next book as well!
I received this digital copy in exchange for my honest review.
Shane is a Rock and Roll bad boy. He’s been through it all and is now trying to settle on the right track. In order to do this he hires a girlfriend to ward off the groupies. But Shane is hiding a huge secret that could no doubt ruin his career.
Delaney is on the run and what better way to be on the run than to earn money being a Rockstars girlfriend. Shane is about to fall head first but what happens when he finds out Delaney has been hiding secrets of her own.
I was honestly looking forward to reading this novel. It was honestly just okay for me. I was expecting more ‘ROCK KING’ out of this novel, given the title. I felt the story line was very predictable. I wanted a little more originality.

This is a beautiful story of two damaged souls, with hidden secrets, coming together to rock each other’s world at the foundation. Shane is a rocker, with a past so horrid that he tried to bury it with drugs, sex and alcohol. When his star almost burned out, he had to make changes. Delaney is running from her past as well. Buy the book to find out how it all ends up- you definitely won’t regret it. I enjoyed this book very much, and can’t wait to see what happens next in the Nothing but Trouble world.
Prepare for a wild ride in this poignant, and sexy romance! Delaney and Shane are both broken and living with secrets. When they meet at a party their chemistry is instant and Shane wants Delaney. But she doesn’t give in easily and walks away. That never happens to the Rock King and he likes that she doesn’t care about his money or fame. He finally convinces her to give him a chance. As they spend time together, the sparks fly and their fractured hearts begin to heal. But can they find true happiness when secrets are revealed, and misunderstandings happen? This is a beautiful story of second chances, redemption, and learning to find your happiness. Ms Leigh is a new author to me and I really enjoyed her writing. She wrote about sensitive issues with so much grace, honesty and empathy. My heart ached for Delaney and Shane at some moments and then laughed and swooned in others. Their hard fought journey was not an easy one but so worth the ride. I really enjoyed this poignant, heartwarming and sexy romance.
This was a good start to the NOTHING BUT TROUBLE series by Tara Leigh, the sexual tension between Shane and Delaney was great and I really enjoyed both Shane’s and Delaney’s back stories.
Shane has a problem with Drugs and Alcohol so he hires “girlfriends” to go on tour with him to help keep him away from things he shouldn’t be doing, this is where Delaney comes in, but he is also hiding a big secret a secret he hopes never gets exposed. Delaney has her own reasons for going along with this farce, which brings its own secrets. Did I mention there are a LOT of secrets? So much angst that you are wondering how they are going to work through everything that is going on.
If you love stories that not only fall under the trope of Rock Stars or Fake Girlfriend but also second chances then this is a story I would recommend to you. Tara Leigh does a wonderful job with creating two characters that are not only great for one another but she has you rooting for them right from the beginning.

Awesome well written book. I love Shane and Delaney, their story was amazing to read hope there are more books in the series
You know those amazing books you read, that are so well written, with such a fantastic storyline, that you start panicking when you are coming down to the last 10% of the book because you don’t want it to end…YEP! Rock King by Tara Leigh is one of THOSE books! YES, Tara! You knocked it out of the park with this book! This is an eye opening perspective on the Rock World and groupies and obsessive music fans! The concept of a “contractual girlfriend” is…WOW! The instant chemistry and the banter between Delaney Fraser, a struggling waitress with a deep, hidden secret, and the rock legend, Shane Hawthorne, is soul biting! The twists and turns in this book have you at the edge of your seat and not wanting to put the book down! Plus, the sexual interactions in this book are delish!
When rock star, Shane Hawthorne, is heading out on tour, his manager, Travis, arranges to find a fake girlfriend/assistant to help keep him out of trouble. After some hesitation, and reading the contract and what she will get from it, (which involves helping her dad who is locked up for killing her mom) Delaney Fraser agrees. “You’re being paid to act like his girlfriend. What you do in private is entirely up to you and Shane.”
The Rock King has a few deep, dark, hidden secrets and many moments that will have you gasping!
I LOVED this book! I went through a full circle of emotions while reading this! I literally felt the love and the heartbreak…and (without too much “spoiler alert”) there was one part where I was reading with my jaw dropped!!!
The Rock King was SO well written! The storyline, literally, was one of the best! Plus, I loved how Tara addressed the issues of drinking and driving, texting and driving, drug abuse and recovery.
I can’t wait for Piper and Landon’s story!!!
Shane Hawthorne is the singer for a rock band named Nothing but Trouble. He hires Delaney to be his “girlfriend” to clean up his image. They have an attraction to each other but are fighting it. Both Shane and Delaney have secrets and troubles from the past. I enjoyed this second chance, angsty romance.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I loved, loved, loved Rock King by Tara Leigh, book one in her Nothing but Trouble series. Ms. Leigh created a wonderful and emotional story between two people living lives based on lies and secrets. Shane Hawthorne is a rock star, at least according to his fans and the public. He overcome his addictive past, lives under a new name, and honors the memory of his best friend, killed in a car accident with Shane as the driver. Shane channeled all of his memories, fears, and pain into his music. Nothing seemed to keep him on the straight and narrow until he met Delaney Fraser. Delaney was the perfect “girlfriend”, a woman to accompany Shane and keep the groupies away and him away from the booze and drugs. Delaney also has secrets and a life of lies, but she is able to see the real Shane through all of the glitz and glamour. She not only loves Shane but understands him, encouraging him to resolve his past, putting his demons to rest. Once Delaney admits to her secret, will it destroy the love Shane has for her or will it cement their relationship?
I really, really loved reading this book and had trouble putting this book down. Ms. Leigh is a wonderful story teller, drawing me in and not letting go until I read the last page. I highly recommend this book to other readers and can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

Incredible rock star romance with so much depth and drama that it is consuming. Shane is hiding from the world through his music and when he’s on tour, he needs a woman around to keep him away from the drugs and alcohol. His agent, Travis, is tasked with finding a woman for the next tour. When he meets Delaney at a restaurant as his waitress, he knows he’s found just what Shane needs. Delaney is skeptical of this request after she meets Shane at a Travis’s Hollywood party but there was something in Shane’s eyes that captivated her. Delaney has her own secrets that she is hiding from which changed her path in life and she hasn’t found a way back. Shane and Delaney are lost souls, both struggling to cope with tragedy in their own ways. Their journey is intense as they both have to face hard truths but can they open themselves to love. Will they see themselves as worthy to be loved? Definitely not your typical rock star romance, it is so much more while delivering all the over the top sexiness that the rock ‘n roll lifestyle provides. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
A brand new series from Tara Leigh and if this book is anything to go by she has another successful series on her hands.
Shane Hawthorne has it all, a successful rock star about to go on tour but he needs a girlfriend to be seen with him and protect him from himself as well as his fans so he gets his agent to find him the perfect girl to sign a contract and act as his girlfriend just for the length of the tour, enter Delaney Fraser a girl who is trying to move forward with her life so the perfect candidate for the job but both Shane and Delaney have secrets, both have a past that they want no one to find out about and both are consumed with guilt. The attraction between Shane and Delaney is instant, the chemistry is sizzling but will they be able to just pretend to be a couple or will their feelings get the better of them when they start spending nights together……both Shane and Delaney are broken from their pasts and both are confused by the feelings they have for each other all they know is they need each other to move forward but moving forward is not as easy as it seems……
This book is a beautiful emotional love story dealing with two people consumed with guilt, at times it will make you cry and at times you will want to bang their heads together, it’s story about two people finding strength from the love they feel for each other and realising that love is not about individuals it’s about partnerships. I loved Shane and Delaney and I can’t wait for book 2 in the Nothing but Trouble Series, great job Tara Leigh.
Rock King by Tara Leigh is an entertaining read. Ms. Leigh has delivered a well-written book and filled it with flawed but amazing characters. Shane is a rock God. He’s cleaned up his act some by staying away from hard liquor and drugs and hiring girls to pretend they are his girlfriend to keep the women away. Delaney is a waitress. Both of them have secrets. Delaney and Shane’s story is packed with drama, angst, nuggets of humor and sizzle. There was an overabundance of detail in the book for my taste, but it was a good story and I enjoyed reading it. Rock King is book 1 of the Nothing But Trouble Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I’ve been on a roll with a lot of new to me authors. For some reason, I tend to gravitate towards stories with a rock star theme to it and I’m sure I’m not alone in this, but I just love reading them. I will admit though that the author’s writing style is quite different and something to get used to, I had to change my mindset a bit on truly understanding Shane and Delaney’s story. I’m still at the point where I’m deciding if it’s a kind of writing style that I like or not. However, I still enjoyed this story even if it took some time for me to get through.
Besides the fact that it’s a rockstar read, we can throw in one of my favorite tropes; fake relationship. It’s a dual POV, which I always love because I’m a sucker for wanting to know what’s going on in each other’s head. But you’ll find yourself spending a lot of time up there, their inner turmoil, for most of the book.
These two both have a past that they’re trying to escape from and it’s not until they find each other that they try to work through it and get past it all. As the story progresses, we already see their instant attraction towards each other grow and with that walls are coming down. More for Shane than Delaney.
I truly loved watching their walls come down and seeing their relationship becoming something so much more. I was getting a bit nervous to see how the story would unfold because you can tell that Delaney is really holding back. The assumption is there and that it definitely won’t end well.
All around, I’d say it was a solid and enjoyable read for me. It’s high with the drama and angst, so if that’s not your thing, maybe steer clear. The writing style is something to get used to, but I’m already invested in this series and totally looking forward to the next book … which once I get through some of my reading for the book, I’ll be diving into Rock Legend.
I’m a lover of Rockstar books and this one just proves why! I am totally in love with these characters! Shane, a rockstar, needs a “girlfriend” to keep him in line. When his Agent finds Delaney, he knows she is perfect for the job. But can he convince her? When Shane and Delaney meet for the first time, I loved how she didn’t fawn all over him. She is tough and knows what she wants in life. Is Shane someone she can watch over without falling in love? Shane is used to getting what he wants, but Delaney doesn’t make it easy.
While these two embark on this interesting relationship, they both have secrets that may not only destroy their lives, but any chances of being together. Can they overcome what’s heading their way? I loved these two so much! The chemistry is chart topping and their interactions will make you all swoony. Words can’t fully describe how much I loved this book. Now I can’t wait to read the next one!!!
This is insanely addictive and rockin’ and rollin’ intense read!
You’d think Shane Hawthorne’s life was all fanfare and booze and rock n’ roll. But those bright lights and screaming fans know nothing about the man he really was. When he needed someone as his arm candy for a Hollywood party, Delaney Fraser cam crashing down his walls.
Broke and in dire need to escape her past, Delaney signed the contract to be Shane’s latest conquest, although she wasn’t really a big fan of Shane’s rockband, Nothing But Trouble. Behind the glitz and glamour, behind gossip rags and screaming fans, Delaney discovered the real Shane, until their long lost secrets dangerously tore them apart.
These two broken souls had a lot of excess baggage that they needed to sort out. I liked how the male alpha in the story finally relented and showed his soft, needy side to the woman who changed his perspectives in life. I liked how the characters eventually realized their shortcomings although it took them really quite a loooong time to forgive themselves and resolve their issues. When those secrets were finally revealed, that really hit a spot. It wasn’t the typical reaction I would get from a wounded rockstar, which made the story even more interesting.
Rockstars are definitely one of the most interesting characters I love to read about. Not because of their rugged good looks and addictive songs, but because of the stories behind the cameras, behind the microphone, behind their musical instruments, behind their smiles. Shane Hawthorne is a quite the king of Rock and his queen Delaney fits right beside him. Rock King by Tara Leigh is an awesome read!
Rock King by Tara Leigh a five-star read that will rock you to he core. This is the first novel in the Nothing but Trouble series and what a kick off to the series, Shane and Delaney are both two very complex characters and they will bring nothing but trouble, but do you know what they are so worth it. They could bring trouble to my life any day they chose. This was a compelling story and adored it, the whole story just kept a great pace and one I couldn’t put down. I do love a good musical romance, and this was such a fabulous example I ant wait for the rest of the Nothing but trouble boys.
This was my first book by Tara Leigh and I was not disappointed. It was very entertaining and not at all what I expected. The characters are strong on the outside but damaged on the inside. I can’t wait to read about the rest of the band members.
I loved this book I seem to like band books
This book takes you through all of your emotions. It doesn’t back off from some hard facts. But instead embraces them. Great read.
Rock King was an okay read for me. I found that both Shane and Delaney characters were okay but they were lacking that connection between characters that I enjoy in a story. There were definitely some steamy scenes between them but I wanted more. I needed more from them because something was definitely missing for me. This story was one full of drama, twists, well kept secrets, regrets and so much more but even with all of that, the flow of the story seemed so slow to me. This story was an okay read but it will also be a one time read. I truly wish I had enjoyed it more.
