Indy Savage, cop’s daughter, rock chick and used bookstore owner, has been in love with Lee Nightingale, once bad boy, now the man behind Nightingale Investigations, since she was five years old. No matter what ingenious schemes Indy used to capture his attention, Lee never showed an interest and Indy finally gave up. Now Indy’s employee, Rosie, has lost a bag of diamonds and bad guys are … shooting at him. When Indy gets involved, Lee is forced to help. Complicting matters, Lee has decided he’s interested, Indy’s decided she’s not. But she can’t seem to keep Lee out of her life when she’s repeatedly stun gunned, kidnapped and there are car bombs exploding (not to mention she’s finding dead bodies).
Indy’s best bet is to solve the mystery of the diamonds before Lee. Lee’s challenge is to keep Indy alive and, at the same time, win back her heart.

I got the first Kristen Ashley book free and became hooked on her style. I especially loved the Rock Chick series because the girls in this series are a “Hot Mess”. They are a little crazy, a lot funny and give their men a good run for their money! If you have not read and are an old time rock-n-roller I highly recommend you try the Rock Chicks.
Love this author! This book is filled with great characters, lots of action and suspense, and a happy ever after. What more could you want?
The characters and world-building is what makes this series different. Kristen Ashley’s Rock Chick world screams Girl Gang and you want to be recruited–Hell, you’d go through hazing, subject yourself to a Daisy make-over and get chased by bad-guys to be part of it. I have re-read this book and re-listened to it (Because the audio is NOT to be missed–AMAZING job with the character voices). Its my go-to for a pick-me up and they are like Pringles…you can’t read just one.
One of my all time favs!
a favorite series!
This book is a very enjoyable story about friendship and love with varied, fun characters, and entertaining suspense and action with some humor. I will be reading all in this series. Great story and so entertaining!!! It does contain coarse language and steamy scenes.
“You know, you wouldn’t even want a man who wouldn’t go back to save someone’s mother and a drag queen.”
At this point if it is Kristen Ashley, I am probably going to read it because let’s be honest, even if it is a story, you don’t fully love there is going to be something about it that pulls you in. That has been my experience so far and Rock Chick was no different.
“What’re you doing? Collecting the straight, super-macho Village People?”
Lee and Indy were hilarious!! Lee was what I would call “typical KA man”, he reminded me a bit of a few other guys from her other books, and he was amazing. He was a badass PI with way too much snark and of course I was totally there for it. Indy was a bit of a ditz though and not in the she had too many martini’s kind of ditz. Straight up stereotypical ditz and I even kind of liked that somehow.
This story did not lack in kidnappings, stun-guns and hilarity. If Indy wasn’t being sassy with Lee, then Tex was being a straight up weirdo and I loved it. Rock Chick was nothing like I expected but I can’t wait to get to book two so we can learn more about Eddie and Jet.
** spoiler alert ** ℝ ℂ by Kristen Ashley was actually the author’s debut novel. Written in 2008, Rock Chick took the romance world by storm, catapulting Kristen Ashley to the top of the romance charts. Rock Chick is the first book in Rock Chick Series. The series is based in Denver, Co and has 9 stand-alone books total.
Being a romance reviewer who is also obsessed with Kristen Ashley I felt that it was crucial that I go to the beginning and read all of KA’s books in order of them being written. I followed the outline on her website ( http://www.kristenashley.net).
Rock Chick is the first book in the series that follows India “Indy” Savage and Liam “Lee” Nightingale on their crazy, wild, funny and PG13 courtship. There are no actual sex scenes in this book. That is the main thing I would ever want to know going into a book. I find it extremely difficult to feel a connection between the hero and heroine if there is no sex scene. That being said, Lee and Indy being fated since they were young is an ideal start to a love story. still, I found this book lacking in any romance. I tried hard to find the romance between Indy and Lee, however I felt this book seriously lacked any real connection between the characters.
The scenes in which Indy and Lee were together didn’t appeal to me. Lee was obviously alpha male and pushy. I’m used to that and prepared for that when I read a Kristen Ashley novel. Usually, the hero is rude to the heroine in the beginning somehow or he just has a bad-ass grumpy alpha vibe in general i.e. Colt (‘The Burg Series). All that is to say I’m used to an a-hole alpha, but Lee was that alpha without the soul I’m used to seeing from KA. Then I think to myself. Well, this is her first book and it’s written in 2008 so give her a break, maybe they didn’t write sex scenes back then?)
This is why I gave the book a middle of the road 3 star. As far as the writing, it’s classic Denver conversational style Kristen Ashley. Her writing is so uniquely her. I love it. I just didn’t love this book. I found it boring and pushed myself to finish it. I didn’t want to DNF another KA book as I recently DNF’d Mystery Man.
The plot was dull, it lacked romance and I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. It wasn’t terrible, I just don’t think it’s worth the time or cost. Indy and Lee apparently had a connection, but I didn’t see any of that. one day he just decides they’re going to be in a relationship. She tells him over and over she does not want to be in a relationship with him. He doesn’t care and pushes her into being a couple AND hooking up. That wouldn’t cut it in 2021 lol Well, then again, maybe it would who knows.
All that being said I would still read another book in The Rock Chick Series. I don’t think Rock Chick (Indy and Lee’s story) will necessarily represent all of the Rock Chick books. KA’s writing has obviously grown tremendously since 2008. I’m writing this in 2021
going back into a time capsule of books. These are books people loved at the time.
As a reviewer, I respect the time era that this was written in and perhaps blame that on the lack of steam.
Lots of alpha moments and hilarious commentary from family and friends.
I love Kristen Ashley books and the Rock Chicks are great! I would love to know them and hang with them. Wonderful characters and fun situations.
Yep. When I grow up, I want to be a rock chick. Enough said.
Love the rock chick sad no more rock chick books
I have read almost all of this authors books, I’ve had all the Rock Chick books but for some reason I had not picked them up to read.
Lee and Indy story was quite entertaining, held me from start to finish!! On to the next one!!
The begining of a great series. Kidnapping, alpha dudes, attitude, humor, pure entertainement from start to finish.
*3-4 Stars*
This one took me a while to get into. Maybe at least 50% of the book before I was really feeling it. A friend recommended this series to me, and she loves it, and also told me that this one was a bit slow to get going, so I was a bit relieved by that.
If you’re familiar with Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series, then this book would be for you. I was very much reminded of those books when I was reading this. Although there are definitely differences. For one, each book is about a different couple, and these are probably much more romance orientated than the Evanovich books.
Once I got into this, I found myself really enjoying it, more and more. I liked our main characters, but not as much as I could have. I found Lee a bit too bossy for my liking, but otherwise he was sweet. Indy was pretty fun and quirky and her own woman, which I really liked. But I did get frustrated with her attitude towards accepting Lee sometimes.
Overall this was a fun book, albeit a bit slow to get into at first. I really do want to find out about some of the other characters though, so I will continue the series. I think this was a really good one to set the series up.
This is one of my all-time favorite books, and indeed, all-time favorite series. It’s laugh-out-loud funny, sweet, and romantic. I must have read the entire series five or six times. Whenever I get in a book funk, I pull this series out for a re-read. Kristen Ashley is such a talented author. An absolute must-read.
Another great series! So different from Kristen’s other series but crazy and fast paced. Unique set of characters.
Ok, I have to admit, I’ve heard people rave about Kristen Ashley’s books, but I had yet to read one. So, I finally decided it was time to change that. I started with Rock Chick. I so fell in love with all the characters and the story. Only one book down, but I think I’m now a Kristen Ashley fan.
Indy and her antics had me rolling with laughter. She is an absolute riot to read, but I have to feel for Lee, cuz those antics would also be an nightmare to deal with in a relationship. But these two are magic together, and positively perfect for each other. My favorite bit has to be the bar fight when Lee was going after a skip. I still laugh thinking about that one.
If you are like me and haven’t tried Ms. Ashley’s books, I suggest you give them a try. And try Rock Chick especially if you like the Stephanie Plum books. Personally, I’m going to immediately going to dive into Rock Chick Rescue now.
I really loved Jet as a character. She has so many endearing qualities, but KA has written such a real person, with money worries and sick family members. It made it easy for me to connect with Jet Eddie is a hot alpha, without being an alpha-hole and that made him loveable, infuriating but not a douche.
This book has some hilarious moments, the best being when Jet’s ex boyfriends come into the coffee shop.
All the books in this series have brilliant characters, strong women who look after each other and plenty of action. This one is no different, but Jet as a lead is a little different, and easy to believe in.
I love all the books by Kristen Ashley!!!!
