Rock Bottom was a sexy, funny, and entertaining standalone contemporary romance in the Dawson Family series, and I really enjoyed Dean and Rory’s story. It hasn’t been my favorite novel from Emily Goodwin so far, but I was happy with the conclusion and am looking forward to reading this author’s small-town Silver Ridge series.
I am so glad Emily wrote Dean’s book! It was everything I hoped it would be and I love that he finally got his HEA! I loved Rory! They were perfect for each other right out the gate! She was definitely Dean’s missing puzzle piece. They may not have started off wanting a relationship but they couldn’t deny the attraction and chemistry. Plus she fits in so well with his family. This was the perfect ending to the series!
Emily Goodwin has won me over with the Dawson family books and Dean Dawson’s story does not disappoint in the slightest. Dean’s life doesn’t exactly go the way he plans and he’s definitely not looking for anything serious when he meets Rory. Rory is new in town, also following a path that she didn’t see herself taking. She meets Dean at a bar and the chemistry is through the roof. We all know the path to love is not easy and Dean and Rory’s story can show us that it’s not always easy to trust, and it’s for sure not easy to take a bath you didn’t see yourself on, but sometimes it’s worth it.

So I haven’t really kept up with this series but this book was so easy to follow. I mean Dean’s family is huge, loud and so full of love. They love to give each other crap and have a very unique way of talking to their mother. At the end of the day it’s all about the love they feel for each other. Dean was a fun character but he’s had his heart broken. He just wants to be free and do what he wants. He doesn’t want to be tied down in a relationship but things changes when he meets Rory. Rory was also a fun character. She is down on her luck and on the verge of being homeless. Fate has a way of bringing them together though. Rory is a dedicated to her job and her love of helping others in the medical field. She has a great bond with her fellow nurses and doctors. When her and Dean are bought together it’s instant connection despite a fake name and a classic first date story. These two are adorable and Rory fits in perfectly with his sister and sister in laws unlike the one who shall not be named lol. This was a cute sexy story filled with a great characters who have found their home in small town Indiana where it snows like crazy in. This book was so much fun to read!!
What a great ending to a great series
Dean finally got his HEA and for that is EVERYTHING!!!! And Rory was fantastic. I loved how they clicked as soon as they met and started to flirt at the get away
DD love! Dean Dawson is hot AF as the oldest Dawson sibling and the sexy beast that turns Rory’s first one-night stand into an experience beyond anything she could have dreamed up. It’s so hot! The beauty that’s always been a little different is delightful fun and just what Dean needs to get over his painful past. But the gun-shy hunk just wants simple and the quirky nurse are at odds because Rory can’t separate sex and emotions. I love the Dawson siblings and their fabulous love stories and Dean’s is just as wonderful. I didn’t think we would get a story with Dean but I’m so glad we did. Rory and Dean are so sweet and sexy together plus we get the whole terrific Dawson family in all their glory. So many kids now and more on the way. I guess this is the end of the Dawsons but there’s Rory’s brothers lurking out there just waiting for stories. I’m sad if this is the end of the Dawsons because I’ve love their romances and great family and so much fun as the siblings argue and fuss and are always there for each other. Terrific fun, family and sizzling romance. Loved it! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC. 4.5 stars
Oooooh boy. This book was everything I wanted it to be and more. It’s the perfect story for Dean. I absolutely loved him with Rory.
Rory is possibly one of my new favorite heroines. I loved how she picked herself up from rock bottom and refused to settle. Girl power all the way.
With everyone else from the series making cameos, this book was absolutely fantastic. A definite must read.
This was the story and HEA that Dean needed. Through out the Dawson series I often felt he deserved more than Kara. I felt they were just going through the motions. She never really connected with his family. And he needed that. He needed someone who understood how much his family meant to him. Someone that would love them and him just as much as they love each other. He finds that in Rory. Their journey is funny, sexy, sweet, and a little heart tugging. I loved everything about it from beginning to end. I am so happy Emily gave us Dean. This was simply perfect.
It was a nice way to end this series.
I enjoyed this book and definitely recommend the series, as well as, the author.
Rock Bottom is the sixth book in Dawson Family, and it feels like I’ve been waiting forever for Dean to get his happily ever after. It was hard seeing this man go through the hurt, and turn into a playboy, when all he really wanted was a woman to love and starting a family. Rory is starting a new job, in a new town, away from her family. She’s tired of the dating game, and ready for a all or nothing relationship. But the moment he met Rory, they had this incredible connection, fun dialogue, they liked the same things, and family dynamics were similar. Will Dean put his heart on the line again?
I adore this family, and I like how they are in eachother’s stories. Their banter made me laugh, and it reminds me so much of my own family. Add in the stuff the little ones said too. Another good read from Emily Goodwin.
This was such a great read! The writing flowed well from start to finish, and I loved Dean and Rory together. They had great chemistry, and it was there from their first meeting. Dean was a great guy, even though there were a few times I wanted to reach through my kindle and smack him upside the head. Rory was a good heroine, and I felt like she was a compliment to Dean’s personality. The ending was very sweet and I enjoyed it. I loved getting updates on all the other siblings, but you don’t have to read the other books to be able to enjoy this story. I can’t wait to see what this author comes out with next!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
Dean Dawson is EVERYTHING!
Dean’s story was meant to be told and Emily definitely didnt disappoint! This story had it all, cats and dogs included. Lol. Loved every page through Dean and Rory’s journey, I couldn’t get enough. Rock Bottom is definitely my new favorite of the Dawson Family!! If there’s any way to get adopted by this family, sign me up. The Dawsons and Harrises are definitely family goals! I cant wait to see what Emily will write next, but I’m really crossing my fingers for a Harris Family new series. Must read page turner you dont want to miss out on.
Since his divorce, Dean has been a love em (but not really love) and leave em kinda guy. He’s adamant that he’ll never have another relationship, doesn’t believe in love, and is not looking for serious. Kara ruined him for love. And then Rory comes along. She’s sweet and fun and breaks through the thick walls he’s encased his heart inside. Can Dean lower his walls and let her truly in? Or will she move on to someone who worships her, someone who will love her the way she knows she deserves?
I felt so badly for Dean reading of his backstory. But really the star of this story for me is Rory. She’s smart and sweet and stands up for what she knows she deserves. Their story is sweet, sexy and a little heartbreaking. Can’t wait for more of the Dawsons!
Laughter – Tears – Love
This has it all and a bit more!
And after you ride the wave of feels you are brought gently to rest at the sweetest of HEA’s
Let me start with Rory –
If life gave out lemons our poor Rory would be the only one without a knife – What do I mean?
Her world is one mishap after another – quite literally
After the final trio of blows, Rory gets the opportunity to reinvent herself.
Wait before you get excited go back to the lemons –
Yes, she manages to muck it up in the most splendid of fashions.
I have to say I absolutely adore her
Dean … Grumpy Grumbler Dean
The world seems to have decided (actually it was Dean but he is blaming the universe so that is what we are going with) that he is not to get his white picket fence and 2.5 children.
Oh and no dog though cats seem to be plentiful but I am rambling …
After his divorce, he opts for the life model of one and done
No awkward morning afters
No heartbreak
Just no
That is until a fiery little gal ignites his curiosity.
She fits him
The calm to his storm
Now he finds he can’t forget her but he can’t forget his past either
These two are just a cornucopia of oops and almosts that together IMO make them one of this year’s top romantic duos
A wonderful story that has all the feels.
All the heartache and all the happy moments that I look for in a five-star read.
What do you do when you hit rock bottom? You either lie there and wallow in your sorrow, or pick yourself up and move on. Rory, the cute, funny and nerdy heroine decides to do the latter in Rock Bottom, the sixth book in the Dawson Family series. I love this series of standalones, and have grown quite attached to these siblings, so I was really excited to see Dean get a second chance at love. This story is sweet and touching, with a just a little bit of angst thrown in to make it interesting. I think these two might be my favorite couple in the series!
“Your heart can’t beak if it’s not in someone else’s hands.”
Rory Harris found out she was let go from her job as an operating room nurse when the hospital had to make cut backs. No notice, just informed after her shift she didn’t have a job there anymore. Rory needs Mike, her boyfriend of six months, to comfort her but instead he tells her he wants to break up because he’s not looking for a serious relationship. Wonderful! What else could go wrong? How about finding out your landlord has sold your home and you’re about to be homeless. All this in less than twenty-four hours.
“You’re not a crazy cat lady, are you?” “I crazy in general and I like animals. Does that count?”
Dean Dawson decides to leave his family get-together early, he’d gone by himself since his wife, Kara, doesn’t really seem to like or tolerate his family. They had an argument earlier, something that had been happening more frequently, and he thinks he needs to make more of an effort at home. They’ve been arguing over starting a family for some time, something he really wants, so Dean heads home to apologize and convince her he’s going to try harder. It’s obvious Kara wasn’t expecting him home so soon, she was entertaining someone when Dean arrives. In their bed, naked. Yeah, maybe he won’t apologize for anything, after all.
“The moment my eyes met Rory’s the wind didn’t echo painfully through the hole in my chest.”
Rory wants a serious relationship and, at twenty-eight, she doesn’t want to waste time with someone who isn’t ready to settle down. The last thing Dean, at thirty-four, wants is to date anyone after his painful divorce. He doesn’t even sleep with the same woman twice, he’s been burned and doesn’t believe love is in the cards for him. When Rory decides to go out on the town she meets Dean and does something she’s never done before, she goes home with him, knowing it’s a one night stand. The next day Dean invites her to breakfast, something he’s never done before either, and for the first time he seems to think maybe he could be interested in seeing her again. Until he finds out Rory isn’t who he thinks she is.
“Last night was a hookup, and someone with an out with old and in with the new mentality about love isn’t someone I want to get involved with.”
Rory and Dean find they have too many people they know in common and seem to be thrown together, whether they like it or not and soon begin to bump into each other regularly. Still, Dean’s a little skittish; he’s not ready to put himself out there again. And Rory knows he’s not looking for long term relationship.
“I want a relationship that has the potential to turn into something more. Marriage. A family. I’m not saying I want it soon, but I need you to know that is my end game.”
“It’s mine too. It’s always been my end game, and it didn’t work the first time, but it was because I wasn’t with the right person. You are the right person. My person.”

Amazing addition to an awesome series!! Loved it a lot! Captivated my interest! Love the characters! Very well written!
“My heart swells in my chest, and I look at Rory, falling in love with her a bit more and more every day. And every day, I think it’s impossible to love her more than I already do.”
Very highly recommend!!
I highly enjoyed Dean & Rory’s story for the most part. My only negative is the drama at the end felt both forced and rushed, and annoyed me in what was otherwise an outstanding story!
They both find themselves going through some pretty crappy circumstances, and handle those circumstances in different ways. I LOVED the way their first meeting came about, and they have some great banter going on! And their story is H O T *fans self* and steamy! ; )
Even though Dean wasn’t supposed to get a story originally, I am SO HAPPY that he did. He deserved a really great HEA, and Rory was really the perfect woman to give him exactly what he needed. She fit into the family so perfectly – and that was another thing I loved, seeing & catching up w/ everyone in the family.
This story is very well written & even w/ my slight annoyance w/ the drama at the end, the ENDING was perfect & well done & overall the story made me happy!!! : )
I’ve been waiting for this book since I finished End Game. And as I continued to read the series and see how sucky and annoying Kara, I hoped Dean would get his happily ever after. It didn’t seem right that he had to be miserable when his siblings all in happy relationships. I was so happy when Emily Goodwin announced Rock Bottom and I was so excited to read Dean’s story.
I have to say I wasn’t disappointed with this story. I loved Rory. She cracked me up and I liked how quirky, weird, and sweet she was. She was the perfect match for Dean and they were good together. I loved Dean–except when he was being a douche in the first couple of books–so seeing him with his on story was nice. It was a little weird to see that side of him. While I hated Kara and I’ve had many bad thoughts about her from the get-go, I was still sad about how things ended between her and Dean. I felt for Dean since it crushed him and made him revert back to being a playboy in his mid-thirties. It was so nice getting to see the Dawson family and how much they’ve all grown now that they are in relationships. I also liked Rory’s family (I’m hoping that’s a series down the road). Overall, I enjoyed this story and it was the perfect end to one of my all-time fave series. I cannot wait to see what Goodwin comes out with next. I’m excited and Goodwin is definitely an auto-buy author for me now.
I cannot tell you how happy I am that Emily Goodwin decided to write Dean’s story! It was perfect and made me extremely happy to see him get his happily ever after. The chemistry between Dean and Rory is lovely to watch unfold throughout the book. The lust, banter, real talk and love, it’s all there. They are absolutely perfect for one another.
Rory rivals my absolute love for Quinn. Rory is nerdy, quirky, and kind. I just love her. She is the type of character I can see myself being best friends with. And Dean…it was amazing being able to see more of Dean. We get glimpses of him on the other books in the series, but here it’s all him and it’s so fun to see.
The way Dean and Rory just click is so wonderful to watch unfold. To see as they build this beautiful relationship, both having things that hold them back, only push forward and put their happiness first. To not let fear hold them back.
I love this Dawson crew so much! They just make me smile so big! It’s hard to resist their charm and I wouldn’t want to anyways. This is a series I can always go back to and love even more than the first time I read them.
5 LOVING DEAN STARS!! Yay….Dean deserved this story. Dean and Rory’s story was amazing and you need to hear it. I love the Dawson’s…..Dean’s book had all the feels with learning how to move on from past relationships. Emily Goodwin is one of my favorite 1-Click authors….you never want to miss her books.
