A slow burn M/M gay romance story following two stepbrothers, Cooper and Jace, from their teenage years to their mid twenties while they’re turning from friends to lovers.Igneous.When Cooper’s parents divorce, he finds himself landed in Week About—one week with his mum and one week with his dad.Only, it’s not just his dad he has to live with. There’s Lila, too: The other woman, the one who stole … There’s Lila, too: The other woman, the one who stole the rock-solid foundation of his life.
And then . . .
There’s Jace. Lila’s son. Lila’s smug, regurgitated-fish-scale-blue eyed son.
All Cooper wants is to have his family back the way it once was, but there’s something about this boy that promises things will never be the same again.
Sedimentary.
Resisting the realities of his new life, Cooper and Jace get off to a rocky start. But rocky start or not, after hundreds of shared memories together, they forge something new. A close . . . friendship.
Because friendship is all they can have. Although it’s not like they are real brothers. Technically, they’re not even stepbrothers . . .
Metamorphic.
But how does that friendship evolve under the pressures of life?
Under pressures of the heart?

This book is basically borderline taboo and I was hesitant to start it because the blurb made me think it would be really sad. And it was. But it was just so sweet and romantic and impactful that I found myself thinking about scenes in it a week after having read it. The love between the two MCs blossoms from when they are teenagers sharing a house, and it’s just. So lovely. It made me feel all warm and gooey inside. And then things happened and I felt gutted, and wanted to cry. And then more things happened I flailed around. And then the ending made me regain my faith in everything again. Seriously, even if taboo isn’t your thing (it isn’t mine, really) you should definitely try this book. It’s beautiful.
Beautiful!
This coming of age story is so beautiful! Told through a boy’s connection to the rocks he finds comfort in handling, which is something I’ve never read before! It was interesting, informative, and emotional. I loved everything about Cooper and Jace’s poignant story!
Beautiful story of young love.
This book tugged at my heartstrings. I loved the slow developing story between these two characters. The budding feelings and secrets kept me intrigued and turning the pages. Excellent story, and it tickled that little forbidden taboo aspect that I adore.
Honestly I was unsure about this book at first, but I loved how the story of the 2 main characters unfolded over their lifetimes. Beautiful love story where the boys just keep being pulled back to one another
This is only my second Anyta Sunday book and I LOVED IT! The story itself is told simply and honestly and lets the reader into the mind and heart of a young boy whose world blows up in his face and becomes very complicated. Every character – major and minor – is exceptionally well drawn. This story gives the reader complex, evolving main characters struggling to make sense of the world they’re growing up in. There’s snark and humor, sadness and confusion, tender young love as well as plenty of heat when it is called for. I wasn’t expecting such a well written book when I started and can honestly say that it’s one I’ll always remember distinctly and with all the feels a really good book evokes. HIGHLY recommend. 🙂
3.5 STARS!!!!
Rock was a great read and this could have easily been a 5 star read for me but the ending was very disappointing. I absolutely loved Jace and Cooper characters from the very beginning. They were sweet, funny and their characters drew me into their story. It was as if I was a part of their world, just watching it play out from the sidelines. I was rooting for them to find a way to be together even though it seemed as if it would never happen. The anticipation was everything!!! However, when it did happen I felt as if it was too rushed. The were finally together and the story ended. I needed more!!!! I waited the whole story for it to happen and when it did that’s all I got. Honestly, I was pissed and disappointed it was over so soon. With that being said, I enjoyed the author’s writing and I would give another book from her a try, but I can say now that if I’m waiting for a HEA with the characters and it ends like this story did, it would be my last book.

“I know we were forced into each other’s lives, but, I mean, I would have chosen you if I’d had the chance.”
“but you were mine too.”
E, claro, agora eu quero colecionar rochas e morar na Nova Zelândia.

Anyta Sunday, what did you do to me?
rock is one of the best books I’ve ever read. I stayed up all night reading and it seems my brain went into shock because now I can’t write an acceptable review.
rock is narrated by Cooper, it’s about his life from twelve years old to twenty something years old. Cooper is a beautiful person with a beautiful heart. Life isn’t always easy for him, at twelve years old something completely unexpected and incomprehensible happens and his life changes.
Anyta created something very beautiful, very real, full of emotions.
I really am speechless, so, just read the book!

And, of course, now I want to collect rocks and live in New Zealand.

A heartfelt read!
When Cooper’s dad marries Jace’s mom, the two new stepbrothers want nothing to do with each other…
But could their rocky start grow into something more?
My word! This book caused a whirlwind of emotions – pain, longing, freedom, love, darkness, heart and vulnerability.
Never had a book cut me so deep – I felt every emotion that was bleeding from and through the pages of this book.
Such a heart -stopping read! After I finished with reading this book, not only was I in a book hangover but I was in a book coma!
Full of friendship, family, betrayal, discovery, secrets, truths, attraction and love.
Perfect for readers of contemporary romance/gay romance.
