A young priestess sworn to a forbidden goddess. A hard-won treaty to protect her people. But now a new prophecy could destroy their fragile peace.
The teen prophet Riwenne has performed many miracles to protect her friends and save her city from the oppressive empire. Now she has a new ally, another nation who declared their independence and helped to defend her city. But when Riwenne shares her … shares her religious beliefs, the new prime minister of the neighboring country is reluctant to accept them. His people have been burned by priestesses before—and they executed the old priestesses for their crimes.
As Riwenne tries to show her allies the power of magic, a mysterious circus appears in the city. Calling themselves the Scientific Circus, they are spreading a prophecy of their own—that electricity and technology can free humanity from the need for any gods. Their Chief Scientist challenges Riwenne to a contest between science and magic.
She may be a divine warrior, but Riwenne can’t fight her way out of this. When violence isn’t the answer and people aren’t impressed by her miracles, she must find a new way to win people to her side. She can’t afford to lose the only allied nation that she has against the empire.
Or she will be the next priestess to meet the executioner’s blade.

Our heroine is finally coming into her own and they have an ally in their fight. But can she keep the alliance together when it is tested?
This is a young adult, steampunk novel. This is the fourth book in this setting and it picks up roughly where the last book ended. I do recommend that the books be read in order so that you understand the setting and situation.
The characters and the setting are well developed and have a richness to them that helps bring the story to life. The story itself is quick paced with lots twists and turns along the way. Most importantly to me, the characters are changing and maturing as we go along. Our heroine, in particular, has made great strides. Overall, a highly enjoyable read and I look forward to the next book.
Highly recommended.
I received an ARC of this book through StoryOrigin for review purposes.
A wonderful book by Author Kristen S. Walker.
Wonderful characters, loved reading…
I received an ebook from Story Origin and this is my voluntary and honest review. This is not my usual genre, I usually read mystery or suspense. Even though this it was not my usual I’m glad I picked it up. It was a new and exciting adventure. Ms. Walker has done a great job writing a novel that most people would probably walk on by but they would be missing a “trip on the downhill ski slope”; wind flying in your face and full of exhilaration. Give it a try, everyone should “try skiing at least once”. Enjoy!
I highly recommend this captivating series!!! I devoured the first three books prior in order and just inhaled this 4th installment…and so thankful that a fifth novel is in the works! Riwenne is absolutely one of my top ten female steampunk characters. The blend of science and magic in this novel is intriguing…essentially a duel between the two ethereal entities for superiority and the future. Politics and deception are colliding again, as well as long standing histories that swirl around the feet of the players, threatening to trip or cripple. No spoilers, but clever twists and turns abound. Excellent worldbuilding, tapestried descriptions, and the recipe includes a dusting of love, loyalty, growth, suspense, self-doubt, and tears!
Riwenne is finally realizing and coming into her own. She is standing up for her faith now. Facing off with unbelief is a huge trial she has to overcome. She is facing her past. Will she prevail and fullfil the prophecy. I like this series and it offers many aspects about belief. You begin to learn more about yourself as you read. I am excited to see more from this series. I have to know how this story ends. I received a ARC copy and this is my honest opinion.
Riwenne and two other divine warriors return to a city that they had fought in previously to free the city from the evil priestesses and give the city its freedom. However, they find a lot of the people have disregarded belief in any gods and look to science for what they need.
Riwenne meets a girl close to her age who creates things to help people and only believes in science and not in “gods”. A competition is held and both sides prove their points. Then, however, Riwenne is faced with a situation about a life she took in that very city and feels a trial is the only way she can have a clean conscience about it.
I enjoyed this latest saga of the divine warriors and with the ending of this book the stage is set for the reappearance of some other warriors they have previously encountered who didn’t agree with how Riwenne wanted to deal with the evil priestesses. Can’t wait to find out what happens next!
Are the Divine Warriors a mob of destructive bullies are simply skilled fighters trying to do their best?
One group and one group leader face challenges and judgments, and do their best to minimize unnecessary loss of life.
Can they continue to spread their message with minimal harm, or are other zealots a significant threat?
The saga continues!
This was quite an interesting story. Riwenne, Kyra, and Amena travel on a visit to Ruraqie. There they meet an engineer who is strongly against the gods. She sets out to prove that whatever can be done by magic can be surpassed by her engineering and electricity. This is a story of Riwenne’s personal growth and her self acceptance. I really loved reading this story!
