This is a good follow up to the Mechanical Beasts. The author stepped up the story in this sequel. The story deepened and the relationships between the warriors became clearer and more well-defined. The warriors have now shown themselves and have now become visible to the rest of the cities.
It appears that the gods are becoming more active but may be out of touch with how the world has changed. Looking forward to the next book to see where this revival of older gods leads us.
Betrayed and facing the consequences of it.
Lots of continuous action with thrilling goosebump suspense. Surprises with unexpected choices are made. You like the characters and really dislike the villian’s. Again I just couldn’t put this book down. Received ARC copy and this is my honest opinion.
Betrayed by her childhood friend, our heroine is now on the run. Can she and her new band of friends figure out how to make things right before they get captured or worse?
This is a young adult, steampunk novel set in an alternate London. This is the second book in this setting and it picks up roughly where the first book ended. I do recommend that the books be read in order so that you understand the setting and situation.
The characters are well developed, each with their own unique characteristics that provide a depth that helps bring the story to life. I do find, in general, that the characters are somewhat immature and whiny, which is not a plus.. But they do learn throughout the book and are improving.
The story itself continues at a good pace with several twists and turns along the way. We also get more back story about the setting and the world, which is really welcome. Overall, I liked this book even more than the first and look forward to seeing what comes next.
Highly recommended.

I cannot get enough of this series. I love the characters and the friendships. I love the magic system and the different powers displayed in the story. The lore of the world of Gods and Goddesses is very well thought out and intriguing. I was disappointed to once again spend most of the book disliking Kyra, I felt that Riwenne is too good for her and deserves better. Riwenne is an amazing heroine that is easy to love, she is kind, brave, and selfless though she can be a bit whiny but she has grown up sheltered and is constantly learning. I love where this story has gone so far and am filled with anticipation for where it’s going next.
There was a whole lot of action in this book! I loved it! I loved the way the team came up with to get the word out about Quilla and the other gods. This series is well written with exquisite character development. I love the combining of magic and machine and the steampunk influences. I can’t wait to read what happens next!
Riwenne & The Bionic Witches is book two in Kristen S. Walker’s Divine Warriors series. This book picks up where book one left off with Riwenne and her friends on the run. Riwenne is still reeling from several truths that have been dealt to her from Nexita and Minister Rennu. Nexita has turned her back on Riwenne and the rest of the warriors and has sided with Rennu. But the hard hits aren’t done coming for Riwenne. She has lost her connection to the goddess that she revered the most and now she has no magic. Being on the run is taking its toll on the girls, but especially Riwenne. They find themselves alone as the rebels won’t take them in and now they must struggle to find their next path to take in their quest to right a wrong that is hundreds of years overdue.
I love how this book picks up where the first one left off. The pace is slower, but it is a story that is chock full of information as the story continues to come together. We get the back story of what happened between the gods that caused Quilla to be imprisoned. The author introduces a variety of new characters and situations. I have to say that I applaud the author’s representation of LGBTQ and non-binary characters. I appreciate that none of the girls took issue with Vilqa. I was concerned briefly that Riwenne would be resentful of Vilqa but instead, they become good friends as Riwenne trains them in their new role. The romance blossoms in this story!!! I was so thrilled! I was afraid for a minute that things would change, but love comes through!
There isn’t much that I don’t like about this book, but I was disappointed in how whiny Riwenne becomes. I understand that she is naïve and that she has lived a sheltered life, but I expected her to come to terms quicker with the facts of the changes in their lives as they are on the run. I also didn’t like how it seemed like the other girls treated her differently with her loss of power.
I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. The author does a fantastic job with this book. While this book doesn’t leave you on a huge cliffhanger, it does leave you a bit suspenseful and eager to learn what happens next. Change is coming and I am eager to see where the author takes this story. If you have read the previous book in this series and want to see what happens next…then grab this book! If you haven’t read this series yet, love Sailor Moon, steampunk, magic and like books with LGBTQ representation then this is a good choice to make.

You’ll shed a few tears as you would in most stories but these characters become your friends and you just have to find out what happens next!!
I wholeheartedly recommend this series and would urge you to start with the short stories that give the background to a couple of the main characters in this series. Start after that with book one Riwenne and the Mechanical Beasts and then continue to this book so the story flows for you.
I have found another new author who I enjoy and admire for her creative mind and imagination. I’m grateful I can enjoy her wonderful books by reading them! Please begin the journey with me and you also will be looking forward with anticipation to the release of the next book in this series!
Wanting to see her best friend, Nexita, Riwenne entered the temple sanctuary of Damon and stared at the hooded red-robed figures beside the altar. Something wasn’t right, so she hid in the shadows. When the leader stepped forward, it was her mother, a corrupt leader who had allowed the dangerous Ministry of Technological Research & Development to experiment on her own people and create mechanical beasts Riwenne had fought against for months. Another robed figure lowered his hood. It was her father, Minister Rennu, the head of R&D who had created those mechanical beasts to prey on the city. He motioned another figure over – Nexita, her friend and sister who had fought the beasts by Riwenne’s side until she found out Rennu was her father and she switched loyalty. Was his dark magic controlling her?
As Nexita lifted the knife over a bound man to sacrifice him, Riwenne tried to run forward and stop her – but a voice said to keep silent and just observe, and Riwenne was held in place. A gem charged with the sun goddess’ blessing was in Lyda’s hand as Nexita plunged the knife into the victim. Then Riwenne woke.
Riwenne escaped Lyndamon City, in pain over Nexita’s betrayal. She has run out of magic, and nowhere is safe for them with a price on their heads. All they have left is an airship and a few gods on their side! The enemy sun goddess is arming bionic witches with blood magic and the only thing more powerful is the banished moon goddess. If Riwenne cannot find her and free her, they will not be able to win the battle. Will she have to kill her sister – there seems to be no other way? But how can she allow herself to become such a killer?
This is a good story that will draw in steampunk fans. There is plenty of action and suspense to keep the reader excited following the story line. The characters are well-depicted and will let the reader quickly pick sides. Magic always adds an element of surprise and opens the reader to the unexpected! Grab your copy and enjoy this exciting adventure and see which side will be victorious!

Please note that I wrote the following introducing my review of the first book in this steampunk series…“First off, a caveat. I signed up for Kristen S. Walker’s author emails and took her up on the offer to review a copy of the third book in this series, Riwenne & The Airship Gambit (Divine Warriors Book 3). I liked the first chapter so much that I signed up to review the first two books and read them from start to finish over a weekend, then jumped back into book three. I highly recommend reading this steampunk series in order.”
Now we’re onto the second book, Riwenne & the Bionic Witches (Divine Warriors Book 2). We continue to experience a steampunk fantastical world and a blend of beings with biological, mechanical, and/or magical powers. Family, friends, and allies are not always what they seem. Even foes are surprising. You will experience deception and redemption with Riwenne as she now encounters yet another fateful and perilous journey. Highly recommend! Please note that I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
