Car mechanic Mercy Thompson has always known there was something different about her, and not just the way she can make a VW engine sit up and beg. Mercy is a shapeshifter, a talent she inherited from her long-gone father. And she’s never known any others of her kind. Until now. As Mercy comes to terms with this new information, an evil is stirring in the depths of the Columbia River. Something … River. Something deadly is coming, facts are thin on the ground and Mercy feels ill at ease. However, her father’s people may know more. To have any hope of surviving, Mercy and her mate, the Alpha werewolf Adam, will need all the resources the shifters can offer. Or death will be the least of their worries.

Patricia Briggs is one of my favorite authors. I like that the good-guy characters in her stories care about each other. This is escape reading where the ending is worth the read.
I was a little on the fence about this Mercy book… I really loved the character development and side narrative this book took, but it felt a bit disjointed. The wedding scene was great, but all the sex scenes seemed forced, where before they’d been very teasing and keeping you on the edge of your seat. Then, the story just kind of wraps up, where I was so chilled by the idea of the primordial evil that was the river monster that I could’ve used another chapter to transition past it or keep me with the goosebumps. However, the dive into Mercy’s background and the history of the area was FANTASTIC, and it was great to see such an expansion of characters.
Alway love
this writer
her writing makes me believe werewolves exist
River Marked is the sixth book in the Mercy Thompson series and I just loved getting to reenter this world with Mercy. I really enjoyed getting to read this installment. This book features more of Mercy and Adam which I always enjoy, but I did find myself missing all of her crazy friends at times. This book deals more with Mercy’s origins and it was really interesting getting to learn all this new information. It was just a really fun read and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Absolutely loved it.
I LOVE Patricia Briggs’ books, and River Called is no exception. The sixth book in a chronological series (do NOT start with this one), it’s where things really change for our characters, between events and new information, the MC is in for a wild ride.
Love all her books. She keeps you interested throughout the story.
#6 in the Mercy Thompson series. ‘Nuff said!
as with all of Patrica Briggs work it is “unputdownable” (well it should be a word)
One of the Mercy Thompson paranormal universe series. When Coyote is involved, even a simple vacation isn’t.
Add in Fae and by the end, the reader wonders if even a survivor like Mercy will endure.
A delightful romp through a truly magical universe, well worth an hour or two.
Audiobook, borrowed from the library.
This is somewhere between a high three star and a lower four star read for me. There’s much more paranormal and urban fantasy going on in these books than romance, which is fine! I love a good paranormal mystery and urban fantasy. This was a good, fast-paced read and I enjoyed it.
Nothing really kept me guessing, but there was plenty o’action (literal – not “bow-chicka-wow-wow”) moving the story along.
I do love the Mercy Thompson series, Mercy’s pretty awesome, and I’d love to read/listen to more from this series.
My favorite book series and author of all time! Love love love!!!!
Excellent
Great read, I always want the mercy story to continue.
Mercy is always so much fun to read about and this installment is no exception. Under family pressure she decides to elope with Adam only to get a surprise wedding instead. It is really sweet with the set-up fitting the characters so well. This kicks off their honeymoon which they are spending at an empty campground owned by fae friends in a brand new fancy camper. After some initial uneasiness about the fae part Mercy embraces it and they proceed to have fun until they run across a man injured in his boat stranded in the river. When Mercy goes to help him she is attacked on her leg by something which leaves a weird wound behind. What follows is quite the mystery for the two of them leading to an explosive showdown in the end which leaves Mercy quite damages. A gripping read that you won’t want to put down that gives us some fantastic insight into Mercy herself. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
So much happens in this book.
-We finally have Mercy and Adam’s wedding! I loved the wedding scenes and the panic leading up to it.
-Stephan is still struggling to deal with the betrayal by Marsilla.
-Mercy and Adam go camping for their honeymoon.
-Mercy learns about her heritage and meets other native shifters.
-We have fae creatures working with a giant Native American creature.
So much! And all of it well written and so engaging I just devoured this book. I have read this series multiple times and yet i still find things I have missed. On to the next one!
I’ve gradually worked my way through the Mercy Thompson books. She’s a great character. Walker turned mechanic with a history degree. Briggs’ other characters are equally engaging. She always turns out an engaging reading experience. The worldbuilding is solid and well-researched, and it’s easy to care about the characters as they weave in and out of the books in this series.
I love this series! It just keeps getting better and better and never feels repetitious. This one was especially great because we got to see more one-on-one between Mercy and Adam without the pack. We also met a wonderful new character to help flesh out Mercy’s backstory. If you love strong female leads, romance, great world building and interesting secondary characters, you’ll enjoy the world of Mercy Thompson!
Absolutely loved the whole series
