Since Lady Emilia Grey and her brother lost their parents at a young age, a simple life without privilege or tradition is all that she’s known. But all she ever wanted is a loving home to call her own. So, it comes as a surprise when she catches the eye of the most powerful man in London at the ball that Lady Constance Belmore organised. What does the future hold for her after that fateful … meeting?
Lord Joshua Pembroke, Earl of Derby, is a powerful man who is no stranger to high society. In fact, he governs it. When it comes to women, the Earl can pick and choose as he pleases. But upon seeing Emilia, a woman unlike any other he has ever met, a fire will start inside him. Lord Joshua is certain that he will have her. But how far is he willing to go to get her?
When blackmail is the tool used to get Emilia, there’s no going back. Is their undeniable attraction enough to make a forced marriage succeed? Does she have the courage to give full rein to her deepest desires? When it comes to the union between Emilia and the Earl of Derby, all bets are off.

This story starts out horribly which is full of selfish pride and blackmail. This story could have turned out a lot better if the Duke just courted her. Men like this have to use their power to manipulate people to do their will. After forcing her into marrying him, he can’t even make love to her due to the guilt of the way he forced her to marry him. The writing becomes stilted at times, and the dialog lacks especially in some of the most important moments like the author wasn’t sure how to proceed in the situation. The only thing well done was the physical chemistry between our heroine and villain.
The storyline was good and the characters were interesting enough to capture my attention from the very beginning and kept it until the turn of the very last page!
This is a satisfying novel to read with a good plot. The Baron and baroness , parents of the h and her brother were killed in a carriage accident when the children were just babies. They wee raised by their uncle in his country estate. The h is now 18 yrs old . She and her brother attend their first ball at a ton party. The h catches the eye of The H a powerful and very wealthy earl at the party. besides being beautiful, the h is also witty , intelligent and not afraid to be honest but also has an inherent goodness and kindness that the H notices much unlike from the other debutantes of the ton. Right away he decides that this is the wife he has been looking for. However ,the first impression of the h about the H was that he is a condescending, controlling type of a man and she tells him not to court her when he expressed his desire to do so. The H found out that the h’s brother has some political aspirations but also has a relationship and fathered a child with an actress.
He uses this information to blackmail the h into marrying him, that he will get rid of that information and help the brother in his political pursuit if the h marries him but would let the scandal come out if she did not. So they got married in about 2 weeks time. The rest of the story is about how the H wins the love of his wife and forgive him for blackmailing her into marriage and how the H showed that he is really a good person with a kind and loving character underneath the façade of a powerful and demanding earl. So there was a nice development of the story toward their HEA.
Great, multi-faceted characters. Very interesting plot. Vivid descriptions. I felt every emotion. Just enough passion! Kept me intrigued from the first page to the last. Simply a GREAT read!
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
I really enjoyed reading this book. You have romance, mystery and betrayal. Sibling bonds can be really tight especially after you lose your parents. But a secret becomes known as well as to threaten their society and work life. This secret is behind a blackmailing marriage. Emilia and Joshua have been through a lot all starting the first time she makes her appearance in society to a huge secret making things uncomfortable to say the least. Emilia, Joshua, Delia and Gina are wonderful characters. Gotta love a strong woman that stands up for herself and those she loves. I recommend this book !
I don’t know about you, but I love a well done historical Regency Romance book. Lucy Langton’s Risking it All for the Sinful Earl certainly qualifies as such. It really is the promised tale “full of passion, love and intrigue”. It’s a real pleasure watching Emilia grow during the course of the novel despite all the things thrown at her (including blackmail) while equally enjoyable watching Joshua bite off much more than he expected to chew. Well done plot that well written and with a great cast. Frankly, but for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed, I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.
A tale that has blackmail, a forced wedding, more blackmail, a surprise culprit, falling in love, a surprise decision and a HEA. What more could a person ask for
Risking it all for the Sinful Earl is an amazing Regency Romance crafted by Lucy Langton. From the first page, you don’t want to put this book down. A lady’s first party in society, an Earl’s overpowering obsession to claim this lady is just the beginning. There are twists and turns, heartbreak and forgiveness, deception and lies.
Follow along with well crafted characters, beautifully described locales and heart wrenching emotions. If you read this in ebook format be sure to read the epilogue, excellent closure.
I absolutely loved reading this sweet romance between Emilia and Joshua. An uncomfortable and impossible marriage proposal leads Emilia to the alter with Joshua. I love Emilia’s character. She is intelligent, wise, kind, honest and forthright. She struggles to forgive Joshua for what he did to make her marry him. As I got to know Joshua, his character began to grow on me more and more. There is an especially moving scene where he is on his knees asking for forgiveness. The more Emilia gets to know the real Joshua, not the face he shows to everyone, she is touched by what she learns about him. The story moves along smoothly at a moderate pace. There was just the right amount of drama and tension to hold me and kept me reading page after page. I was very happy with how it ended and especially enjoyed the extended epilogue. A real down to earth emotional moving story that I do recommend.
This is a fabulous story!
Lucy Langton has again given the reader an engaging and interesting story. I loved the characters, how the author incorporated the brother’s story and all with-in a very well-written storyline. There were some surprises that will entertain you. This is a book I highly recommend.
Love at first sight!
The story of Lord Joshua Pembroke, Earl of Derby a man who knows what he wants and gets what he wants. As soon as he sees Lady Emilia Grey who happens to be attending her first ball of her first London season he knows he has to have her. Her attraction to him is there also although she doesn’t quite understand how she garnered his attention. While I found his method of achieving his goal very underhanded I understood his reasoning behind it. Having more in common than either knew it was evident to me from the beginning they were meant for each other. Brother Lord Roderick Grey was another story. I kept waiting for him to redeem himself only to realize he couldn’t in my eyes. Given the era he did what was expected but in my eyes what he did was unforgivable. I would have liked to see him grovel and be truly remorseful for his actions. He wasn’t a truly bad person he just allowed the dictate of the day to steer his moral compass. It seemed everything just worked out for him with very little sacrifice. I’m never disappointed with Lucy Langton and honestly recommend Risking it all for the Sinful Earl.
