(4.5) Great Read!!! Cara is berating herself as she picks a lock to break into a hotel room. That is where we start and then we are off! Cara made me laugh, feel and care. Henry stands for hunk. Suspense, mystery, action abound in Risk it All. I was enthralled with Henry and would have loved to hear his feelings as Cara quips along. Their escapades as they run from danger make you catch your breath and the bedroom was steamy and swoon worthy. Thank you Katie Ruggle, Sourcebooks Casablanca and NetGalley for the arc. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.
The Pax sisters are bounty hunters, and Henry Kavenski is the latest skip they’re chasing. Cara, who’s also studying to become a kindergarten teacher, usually sticks to research, but she’s been following Henry and takes a chance on searching his motel room after he leaves. And that’s just the first step of Cara being in way over her head.
Holy wow, this one starts off with a bang and then builds from there! It had me glued to the page, chewing my nails and forgetting to breathe at times! Hold on to your hats, because not only does Cara find more trouble in a few days than most people find in a lifetime, but the mysterious bail jumper, Henry, is all hot, mysterious and still waters that run ridiculously deep.
I haven’t yet read the other book in this series, but you can bet I’ll be catching up quickly. Although these books all stand alone, there is the mystery of the mother that looks like it will run through the series and be answered by the end. If it bothers you to have any loose ends, then read these books in order. Personally, it wasn’t an issue for me that I hadn’t read the first book because enough details are given about previous incidents that I didn’t feel like I was missing anything in this one.
Cara is completely adorable, and following her through the book took me from one end of the emotional spectrum to the other, and back. And Henry? Wellll, now, that man, all gruff, stoic and stone-faced practically leaped off the page and brought his big gooshy heart with him. These characters are both incredibly endearing and I was all in from the very beginning. So however you choose to read this series, just be sure to read it!
This series falls somewhere on the spectrum between Janet Evanovich and Jayne Anne Krentz. The second book for me was even more fun than the first because of the city girl survival in the wild stuff.
Cara Pax doesn’t want to be a bounty hunter. Her dream is to become a kindergarten teacher, but knows the bounty hunting is what pays for her college classes. She may be a wiz on the computer, able to research all aspects of a case, but she hasn’t done much field work. Since her sisters are all busy on other cases, she takes it upon herself to jump in the field tracking Henry Kavenski. As she continues her research and her surveillance, she becomes convinced that he isn’t guilty.
She is quirky and a little naive, but has a whole lot of heart. He is protective, quick thinking, and on the run. Together they are an unlikely pair working together to clear his name.
There was more action packed into this story than there was relationship building. These two quickly find themselves in situation after situtaion that requires quick thinking and fortitude to get out of. Cara’s inexperience in the field causes her to make several decisions based on her naivete and makes keeping her safe even harder for Henry.
I was really hoping the story arc with their mother and the stolen necklace was going to play a bigger role in this storyline, but the search for both their mother and the necklace was all off page (and not really mentioned). This was a fun return to the Pax sister’s story and I look forward to more from this series.
This is the second book in Katie Ruggle’s Rocky Mountain Bounty Hunters series. We get to know Cara more and follow her as she attempts fieldwork in her family’s bounty hunting business. Cara keeps referring to herself as a wannabe kindergarten teacher, but she is in school for it and works in her family’s business as well. I think she sells herself short a lot. She tries to venture into fieldwork and ends up taking on more than she can handle. However, throughout her life-threatening situations, she shows that she can hold her own.
I enjoy Katie Ruggle’s writing because there is usually a lot of action and some romance, but it’s not super dark or heavy. Her characters are fun and down to earth. Though I do feel like the couple got to the super-committed stage pretty quickly.
I am so loving this series! The Pax sisters are fabulous, but I think Cara might be my favorite. I find her quirky, spunky and adorable. I love her commitment to her sisters and willingness to put herself in a situation that she was not comfortable in. Henry is all man and adorable. I so enjoyed the humor, romance and suspense that was expertly woven throughout this book. I cannot wait for the next one!
Cara and Henry’s story was a real page turner, with lots of action, suspense, some humor thrown in, and a connection that neither was ready for. Cara is usually doing the research for her sisters while they do the bounty hunting, but a skip pops up in the name of Henry Kavenski as Cara is almost run over in a parking lot as he steps in to save her. Their story takes off with lots of fast action as things continue to happen that suggests that someone is out to get Cara. Henry is there again to protect her from the criminals that may have set him up for the murders. Their story is fast paced with lots of banter between them as Henry tries to keep Cara safe as they work together to bring the criminals to justice and clear Henry’s name. “Risk It All” is one that you won’t want to miss that keeps the reader engaged to find out how their story plays out for their own HEA.
**I was gifted “Risk It All” from Netgalley and voluntarily leave my review based on my reading** 5 Stars!
Love where she never expected it! With book two in her Rocky Mountain Bounty Hunters series, Katie Ruggle takes us knee deep into trouble with Cara and the accused murderer she’s set her sights on catching.
Cara has no interest in being a bounty hunter like her sisters, but if she wants the family business to keep carrying the bills while she studies to be a kindergarten teacher, she needs to step up and bring in some dough. She might not be as smooth as her sisters, but she’s hunted her prey and is making her move.
Henry can’t help but be amused at how obvious Cara is when she’s hunting him. He’d be a nice guy and let her earn the money for taking him in if he didn’t still have so much to accomplish to get out of this mess that he’s gotten himself into.
I’ve been highly entertained by both books in this series so far and look forward to seeing more of the sisters find their happily ever after and watching them bring their mom her just desserts. I recommend this book to anyone liking a drama filled intrigue with a close-knit family of bounty hunters and a whole lot of heart involved.
Cara Pax just wants to be a kindergarten teacher; the only thing she loves more than that idea is her 4 sisters – she would do anything for them. So when the same Fates that gave her terrific sisters also gave her (and them) the ultimate dirt bag mother with accompanying issues, Cara feels the need to do her duty to at least ease the financial issue side of things. As a result, our wanna-be teacher of the future becomes a has-to-be bounty hunter right now to assist her sisters in their business. But the usual research angle she performs for Pax Bond Recovery doesn’t bring in the kind of money the sisters need, so Cara aims big. Real big, as in bringing in alleged double murderer, the hulking bail-skipping Henry Kavenski….
To say Cara is in over her head is an understatement! But I have to say, I loved her. Cara knew she was over her head, but she was very logical and pragmatic about that. Her innocence and upbeat nature so contrasted with what was going on around her; a near hit-and-run, mystery men with guns and the two “skips” – “her” Henry the dangerous (alleged) double murderer and the safe white-collar crime skip Geoffrey Princeton Abbott. It is quite a ride Cara takes us on, from our favorite watering hole Dutch’s to an isolated cabin in Field County, wherever the heck that is. Cara proves her mettle by escaping kidnappers, saving an alleged murderer’s life and solving the crime, all while wearing her hedgehog flannel pajamas. This woman is my hero!
I like Ms. Ruggle’s writing style, her pacing and her characters. There is a strong comedic thread in the Rocky Mountain Bounty Hunters series; coupled with some dark characters and shenanigans the Pax sisters encounter, I find myself alternatively laughing then cringing in fear over what this family goes through! But with each book I crave more and more of them, and cannot wait for the next Pax to get her HEA!
This is the second book in this highly entertaining, action packed series about the 5 Pax sisters who run their bounty hunter business out of their family home. The property is now in jeopardy, because their mother stole a necklace, got caught, used the title for their house (which the girls had been paying the mortgage on, but inadvertently had failed to remove her name from the title) as collateral on her bond, and then skipped out on it. The shady bondman that she used, knew that the girls had been paying the mortgage and has been using that as leverage to get them to chase after dangerous skips.
Cara wants to be a kindergarten teacher, but their mother had also stolen her tuition money. Her normal roll in the business is research, but to ease the pressure on her sister, she attempts to capture murderer Henry Kavenski, by breaking into his motel room. He walks in on her, but only finds her amusing, lets her go and then saves her life. Not only does she find herself attracted to the felon, but she is convinced that he is innocent and is going to prove it. Meanwhile she goes after another skip, a white collar criminal, but gets kidnapped herself and Henry has to rescue her again.
Endearing characters, snappy banter and an action packed, page turning adventure make this a terrific read. I read an ARC from NetGalley.com. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
This is the second book in the ‘Rocky Mountain Bounty Hunters’ series. I found this book to be highly entertaining, the action and characters are well written. I have not read the first book in the series but I’m hoping to change that very soon. I felt this book could be read alone but would love to read the series from the beginning. I enjoyed the characters, felt them to be well developed and love the awkward humor that the heroine gave us. I could see myself beginning friends with the Pax sister’s. I look forward to reading more with this series and recommend this book to those who like action, suspense, sweet kindergarten type teacher/bounty hunter heroine and sexy good samaritan bad boys.
***I voluntarily reviewed this ARC for an honest review via NetGalley, this is my honest opinion and has not been influenced by the author, Publishers or NetGalley in anyway.*** Thank you!
Risk It All by Katie Ruggle is book 2 of the Rocky Mountain Bounty Hunters with Cara Pax, one of the sisters of the Pax Bound Recovery. Whoo-wee! The book is packed with Cara’s misadventures with danger lurking around the corner. She is a sweet, adorable, character with an indomitable spirit in wanting to help by taking “easy” skips that land her in hot waters. But hey, she has courage to face whatever situation she stumbles into. The man of the hour is Henry Kavenski, a murderer on the run. A strong, silent type, he finds himself not only rescuing Cara but growing attached to this woman can’t seems to stay out of trouble.
The action in this story are like watching a movie with special effects. I mean whoa! The story takes off in a wild ride with Cara and Henry fighting for survival at every turn. I love a book full of romantic suspense/action thrillers that keeps me glue to the edge of my seat. Katie Ruggle’s Risk It All has all that. Readers put on your seat belt for a wild ride from the moment Cara meets Henry. You’ll be swept into Henry’s wild driving, shootouts, a cold dip in an icy river, and one night of hot passion.
This sister was annoying and story was slow in some places
Risk It All is the second book in the Rocky Mountain Bounty Hunters series. I like books about bounty hunters in general but the twist in this series is that they are women. Actually, five sisters who have a successful bail recovery business. Cara did the computer research for bounty hunting but she wanted to do more to bring in money. So, without telling anybody, she went after a man who was charged with murder and jumped bail named Henry Kavenski. Her sisters went after skips all the time, so how hard could it be? Lots of things happened making her understand that what her sisters did was not easy at all.
Cara and Henry became close as they worked together. How could she not fall for the man? He’s gorgeous and always there to get her out of trouble. And there was lots of it. If they didn’t get killed, they might have a chance to become more to each other.
I really liked Cara. Even though I didn’t think it was smart of her to go off on her own after a skip, she really was very smart and careful, too. I liked that being in a tough situation didn’t stop Henry from being a kind, honest man and wonderful to Cara.
I liked this book a lot (more than the first one) so I am glad I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley in return for an honest review.
I volunteered to read and review a readers copy through Netgalley of Risk it All .
I absolutely enjoyed reading this story . This is book two in The Rocky Mountain Bounty Hunters series . This story is so intertaining and quit action packed . Cara Pax wants to be a kindergarten teacher not a Bounty Hunter . Feeling like she needs to help the family business more she decides to apprehend a bail skip .
Enters Henry Kavenski . He skipped out on bail bond wanted for murder . Cara isn’t very good at Bounty hunting at least she should stick to the research part . Henry catches her several times and sends her home with a warning . She finds herself attracted to him, so she decides to set her sights on a less dangerous skip but soon finds herself really in danger along with Henry . Cara and Henry have quite an adventure running for their lives from the bad guys and falling for each other .
This is a fabulous and humorous definitely excellent story . fantastic and lively characters. I highly recommend taking the time to read and enjoy this story .
I really liked Cara in book 1 and couldn’t wait to read her story, but I had a really hard time getting into this story. Cara seems to be the sweet sister. She doesn’t get involved in the more risky parts of the business and she is school to become a teacher. Henry is trying to prove his innocence and they kinda just get thrown together. I just had a really hard time picturing them together. Cara seemed to be very childish and immature in this book and that definitely made it harder for me. I like Henry, he seemed like the typical alpha male type that I like in books. And the action was pretty good. I just couldn’t get my heard around Cara and not being able to connect with her. Hopefully the next one will be better for me!
An exciting tale, that will have you holding your breath. I couldn’t put my Kindle down with this one, thanks to there being one twist after another. Although Henry is the bail jumper, he spends most of his time saving Cara’s life, multiple times. The perfect blend of suspense, romance and a bit of laughter, this is my favorite book by Katie Ruggle so far!
This is a great addition to the series. I love all of this authors books and I can’t wait to read more books in this wonderful series. Risk it All had great characters and an intriguing storyline. It was a little slow at the beginning but, it was a great read and I would definitely recommend it.
3.5 stars
In general, I love this author’s writing. Her stories will suck you in and make you laugh, cry, and sit on the edge of your seat. For some reason, I’m not finding that to be the case as much with this series. These are still wonderful stories, but there’s something missing for me. I love the characters, I love the concept of the overarching story, as well as the stories of the individual sisters, so what’s the issue? I’m having a bit of a hard time knowing for sure, but while reading this one I think I may have come up with at least part of the reason.
Let me start by saying I’m not a point of view (POV) snob. I know some people cannot stand 1st person narratives, and some struggle with alternating views. As long as I’m enjoying the story and the writing is good, I have no problem with any POV. It’s fun to mix it up anyway. Well, these stories (so far) have been written in 3rd person, but with that 3rd person only telling things from the heroine’s side. In Ms. Ruggle’s past books I’ve read she uses 3rd person, but we see all sorts of characters along the way. So, while we know what the heroine is thinking or doing at all times, we don’t get that insight into the hero. Which, I have now found, makes it harder for me to connect. Because, like I already said, I really enjoy everything about these stories…I’m just missing a connection somewhere. I think this is that missing link for me.
On to the actual story. Cara and Henry are so cute together. I know, a weird thing to say about a potential murderer and his bounty hunter. But we all know Henry is going to be innocent at the end, and that’s not a spoiler. The author isn’t going to have one of her heroine’s fall for a bad man.
Cara’s ingenuity in the face of trouble is great. She may freeze up when it comes to Henry a time or two, but when’s she’s truly in trouble she is a little spitfire. Her brain goes a mile a minute and helps to keep her alive. Which I cannot get into too deeply or I’d be giving you spoilers, something I hate doing.
Because Cara’s brain goes a mile a minute, her mouth often does, too. Which is an advantage for Henry since he doesn’t really have to say much…Cara fills in the blanks herself. Whether she fills those blanks in correctly or not isn’t really the point. Henry lets her think what she will because it’s easier for all of them that way.
The last half of this book isn’t really what I expected, but it gave me a lot of the action I had been missing previously. I enjoyed how the story played out and, although I’m not getting as fully invested in these characters as I have the author’s other characters, I still find myself rooting for all of the sisters and their potential mates. I’ll definitely be continuing this series to see how things play out for the rest of the sisters, as well as their mother.
