Alyson has written a new take on a rocker story and it is perfection, seriously there was not one thing I didn’t enjoy or would change expect perhaps that it didn’t end. Mason has such a beautiful soul and he is an incredible single dad to an adorable little girl, they will both steal your heart very easily.
Although this is a love story between Mason and Liberty for me it’s about a man rising from the ashes and having a second chance at his dream. I felt surrounded by love whilst reading this book there are so many different aspects to it. The way Alyson starts each new chapter was emotional when you realise exactly what your reading. A first love written so poignantly, the complete love for a child, the loyalty and unwavering support of a family by choice not blood and a new passionate love everyone had their role in making Mason West one unforgettable character.
5 Star Review of Rising West (A Turner Artist Rocker #1) by Alyson Santos
I am not sure where to start this review , other than to say that Alyson Santos knocked this one out of the arena. I was riveted to this book from the first page until the last and could not put it down.
Mason West is a single dad to beautiful Brooklyn and they are about to have their world turned upside down; Liberty Blake is the women that will bring him to his knees and in doing so they will find a love so overpowering that it was almost blinding.
Both Mason and Liberty have issues and personal demons to face and I was blown away how Ms.Santos was not afraid to take the readers on a deeper journey and tackle issues such as depression and self worth. Issues that are very prevalent in today’s society and often ignored or overlooked.
Rising West is an emotional roller coaster of a read that will get to you on many levels as she peels the layers off Mason and Liberty like an onion. The writing is strong and she is not afraid to write about characters who are flawed and it is this that I appreciate and relate too.
Such is the power of the story telling that there are times when reading this author, that I can almost hear the music playing.
This is a slow burn romance with so much heart and soul and one I definitely recommend.
Where to start and what to say to do this book justice well I guess I start by saying this story blew me away, it gave me all the feels and it took me back to the days of Night Shifts Black in other words for me this is Alyson Santos at her best . Riding West is one of those special reads that you know is going to stay with you forever and you know you are going to remember quotes from this very special story
like “ I want the sun to rise in the west” it will always stay with me and it will always bring back heartfelt memories of a book that touched me on so many levels.
I loved Mason West and his adorable daughter Brooklyn but it was Liberty Blake that really got to me, I loved how she turned Mason’s world upside down in the best possible way by facing their demons together they became stronger. This author is not afraid to touch subjects others shy away from and thats why she touches so many of us with her powerful, heartfelt romances. This book will certainly be on my best reads of 2020 and I urge you all to one click this emotional slow burn romance. A captivating read that has left me wanting more and I’m excited for book 2.
Oh My Goodness! I didn’t know what to expect with this new novel but I absolutely fell in love with it. The tragedy, the friendships, the undeniably adorable Brooklyn.
Mason seems so vulnerable and good, its hard to see how anyone could hurt him. The character was magnetic. The tragedy that both spurs him on and holds him back is heart breaking but that doesn’t make the story too dark as his new friendships lift him up. Liberty has been burnt and at first that makes her resistant to connecting with Mason on any level, thankfully she can get past that. As always Alyson Santos writes beautifully on the matters of mental health, grief, insecurity, self doubt.
This is the first book in a new series from Santos, and I’m already hooked!
Five gorgeous, heart filling stars for this beautiful book! Written with care and a love for the characters she has created, Alyson Santos brings her signature love of music and people to bear, weaving past and present, the power of music and poetry to reveal and save, with a skill and precision which has left me breathless, and a bit stunned by how deeply moved I feel.
Going into any book by Alyson, I know I am going to dive deeply into the hearts and minds of her leading characters and Rising West is no exception. I have ear marked and highlighted so many beautiful passages, phrases, paragraphs and thoughts wrapped up in lyrics, clearly indicating just how much I have loved the experience of reading this book.
Mason, Liberty, Brooklyn and Katrina all have totally distinct voices which help drive and reinforce a book which will stay with me for a long time. Also…go and listen to Says Who! It’s beautiful!
This is a 5 star review all the way. If I could give it more starts I would. Rising West is one of those books that will touch and stay with you long after you finish reading it. It has all the great elements of a great romance; Swoon Worthy, Panty Melting, Single Father, Rockstar hero, a great heroine in Liberty and some great side characters including an incredible four year old girl you can’t help but fall in love with. On top of all that goodness you have a intensely emotional story that will make you cry. You will want to wrap your arms around Mason and squeeze him until you make everything all better. Books that make you feel like this don’t come around that often but Rising West is definitely one of them.
The books start with Mason and we learn that three years ago he lost his girlfriend and the mother of his baby girl in a car accident. He gave up everything he loved, including a promising music career, and devoted his life to his baby girl. Now he struggles with hard labor jobs while playing at crappy clubs on the side. Until one day he gets noticed by a manager who needs a new front man for an up and coming band, and she thinks Mason has what it takes.
Mason takes the chance even though he has never believed his good enough for anything especially after he lost Katrina. Katrina was always the one to keep Mason on the right track and now that he blames himself for her death he is in a dark place.
Liberty started Burn Card with her brother and now that their lead singer and her boyfriend has left the band she is in a tailspin and Mason West is the last thing she needs in her life yet she can’t help but be pulled toward the gorgeous single father with more musical talent than anyone expected
Mason and Liberty’s relationship is incredible. You see how after years of being alone Mason finally has someone who understands what he needs. Liberty is exactly the right person to pull Mason out of the darkness that he lives in.
This book will forever be one that I go back to and read over and over. It is emotional and your heart will bleed for Mason and you will feel raw at times. A book that makes you connect that much with its characters is incredibly special so don’t miss out on this book. It is available to read for free with your Kindle Unlimited subscription!
**I was incredibly fortunate to receive a free advanced copy of this book from Wildfire Marketing Solutions and Alyson Santos in exchange for a fair and honest review.**
Alyson Santos! You rock! Seriously, this has to be one of my favourite rock band novels ever! If you want egotistical rockstars taking over your pages, this book is not for you. If you want all the feels from talented, slightly jaded musicians who will rock your world. Then this is the book for you. Mason West – you’re mine! He was so beautifully broken, he had so much heart and an extremely lost soul. My heart broke for him. I adored him, I adored his family, and don’t get me started on Brooklyn, she was just the cutest. Now the writing. Alyson Santos has a style all of her own and she can really make a story come to life with her written word, add in the fact that she is a musician, and you know the writing will be faultless, and it is. I felt all the emotions, happy and sad, I laughed, I cried, I related to the characters, when they hurt, I hurt. I did not want this story to end, ironic really since I read it in one sitting. If you only read one book this year, let it be this. I received an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest review.
