Rising Star is the first book that I have read by Terri Osburn and I really enjoyed it. Rising Star is the first story in the Shooting Stars series. Rising Star is the story of Nashville DJ Charley Layton and rising country music star, Dylan Monroe. Charley and Dylan meet accidentally at a bar and decide to head out together when Charley suffers a panic attack. They spend part of the evening together and end the night at Dylan’s apartment. Dylan confesses to Charley, a little known fact that the is a song writer. Charley only discovers Dylan’s real identity the following morning when he shows up at the radio station to be interviewed and sing his new single. Dylan and Charley become romantically involved to the chagrin of Dylan’s manager, Mitch Levine. Dylan goes on a radio tour and then an opening act for a country legend. Dylan’s phone goes missing and he has no way of staying in touch with Charley. Charley discovers she is pregnant and cannot get in touch with Dylan to share her news. Charley thinks that she has shared the news with Dylan, and when he doesn’t respond to the news that way Charley had hoped, she decides to quit her dream job, and return home to Liberty, Kentucky. I loved the surprises and the plot twists in Rising Star. Terri Osburn is an amazing story teller. I loved the the poignant and bittersweet moments in the story. Will definitely read the second book in the series.
Another great, easy to read story by this wonderful author.
A series with a country music theme this time, most of which was lost on me, but still an enjoyable reading experience.
The characters were immediately relatable and despite some predictable errors of judgement they got a sweet HEA.
Definitely well worth a read.
Actual Rating 3.80
I mostly enjoyed Rising Star and thought that for this to be my first read by Terri Osburn it was pretty good and I definitely enjoyed her writing. I liked Dylan a lot and thought he was a sweet country boy with a lot of manners, who knew how to treat a woman. He was a real genuine nice guy. I liked the music side of the story pretty well as well.
My only issue with this book and why I didn’t rate it higher is because the heroine Charlie was OTT and dramatic as hell. Everything was a big deal and turned into one huge leap into assumptions and insecurity. She didn’t want to date Dylan because she is afraid of being like her mother who gave up on her dreams for a man and got pregnant with her and then there was obvious insecurity when Dylan goes on tour and she was just overly dramatic and annoying.
But other than Charlie’s dramatics I did like Charlie and Dylan together. Their relationship was very easy and cute as they got to know one another and went on cute and simple dates. It was a nice set for
I have to confess that I had decided to skip this book because I don’t like country music. Someone wise encouraged me to give it a try, and boy were they right. I truly enjoyed the book.
The main characters are Charley Layton and Dylan Monroe. Charley is a radio DJ in Nashville. An independent gal, living her dream and who doesn’t want to get involved with anyone for fear of losing her independence and her identity. Dylan is an up and coming country singer who was drawn to Charley the moment he saw her.
While Charley continued to have her doubts and fears that he would not be faithful once on tour, Dylan is all in. At times I wanted to give Charley a big shake , while I fell in love with Dylan.
A well written book with an engaging plot and complex characters.
Definitely will read more stories by this talented author.
4,5 stars
This was the first book that I read from the writer Terri Osburn and to my delight I liked it very much. When I read the blurb I was very curious about the story because I have read many ‘rockstar’ books but this was my first book about a country singer.
‘Rising star’ is a contemporary story that is writing very fluent and that is a light and easy read . The story is told in both POV’s.
If you’re looking for a story with a good guy in it, then you really have to read this one. Dylan Monroe is everything you could want in a guy. Good, gentle, intelligent, loyal but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t go for what he wants and he wants Charley with whole his heart. Charley is also a likeable character. She also knows what she wants, she wants to be a DJ. Both of them have a dream that they really want to become reality but both will find out that sometimes love can change your dreams a little bit. That sometimes love and trust can make your life and dreams better!
I really enjoyed ‘Rising star’ and I will definitely read the next book in this series.
I love books that make me want to step into and become part of them. This book made me wonder what it would be like to be a DJ on the radio as well as think about what being a star really means. Who is behind the person who makes it to stardom? Who assists and who doesn’t? What does it take to be the significant other of a star? What qualities are required to make it to the top? This book made me think and that is always a good thing. It also made me feel and care and kept me entertained.
Great characters in Dylan Monroe and Charley Layton – their chemistry sizzled though their communication missed a few beats from time to time. In addition to the H/h that kept me tuned in with more than conversation there were other worthy characters that intrigued me that I would love to see in future books. I have a feeling Chase and Naomi may show up in book two of the series but before the series ends I do hope that Clay and his ex-partner Tony can be friends again AND that Clay finds professional success AND a romance that will provide him with a HEA.
I have a feeling that Dylan and his band, Charley’s friends Matty and Elvis and some others may keep making appearances as the series progresses and I look forward to following this series as each book comes out.
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake Romance for the ARC – This is my honest review.
