“Never fall for a rock star.”
Rise above to the occasion…of your heart!
In book 2 of the Black Hearts Still Beat series, Rise: the Interlude—angst, harmony, and steam “rise” to the occasion among Rafe, Eva, and Levi…or shall I say, with the entire band, who all begin to connect and click.
“You’re mine, Starshine. Not his. Not the bands. Mine.” – Rafe Hunter
As this angsty, forbidden romance of Eva and Rafe continues, so does the connectedness of the band with Eva playing at the center in Rise: the Interlude. However, there seems to be a darkness at play that comes about at the most significant times, lurking around, messing with fate. Will Rafe be able to put himself first, or will his past hold him back? Who will Eva choose?
I look forward to finding out in the conclusion of Rafe and Eva’s story in Rule: the Finale, book 3.

I’m LOVING this series!!!!!!
It’s not only about a Famous Rock Star and Country’s Sweetheart romance, but it’s about friendship, family, choices, mental illness, loyalty and so much more. When Lianne writes she pours so much heart into her characters. They are so complex and real that you get completely wrapped up in their lives. You feel what they feel, and that’s quite a rollercoaster of emotions.
This is probably my favorite of her series, although I love everything that she writes. I’m excited to see how the last book wraps everything up, and I’m hoping she writes about the other band mates!!!
If you haven’t started this series, do it and you’ll be sooo glad you did!!! If you’ve read the first book, YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE THIS ONE!!!!! 5 ROCKIN’ STARS!!!!!!
The continuation of Rafe and Eva’s story was awesome. There was so many questions left unsaid with the first book and in this story we learn so much more but are still left wondering what will happen next. I did enjoy how Eva became a part of the band and had them at her back. I was a little unsure about her friendship with Levi because he became intensely obsessed with her and needed her when his mind would spiral out of control, but it was nice to see she had friends and could help Levi. Rafe, even he he tried hard to fight his attraction to Eva and was insanely jealous of her friendship with Levi, he accepted a lot but he couldn’t fight the love he had for Eva and it’s clear to see they are made for each other. Secrets and guilt cause some issues between the band and Eva, but I was happy with where it left off and I’m dying to know what will happen from here and how will they all handle it.
“They were Black Hearts Still Beat, four friends bound together through more than just their music, and I was Evangeline Walker, a small-town girl swept up in their world.”
I don’t even know where to begin.
This story captured me since the first chapter .
Eve and Rafe’s story is getting even more complicated now. It’s a very tormented and passionate journey. Each chapter has is own magic .
“This, us, it’s real. Tell me you know it’s real, Rafe.“
Rafe tried so hard to resist and avoid at all costs his feelings but sometimes you just have to let yourself be…
Eve in this second book was a real rockstar, I loved everything!
The chemistry and all the feelings where all around the place. This was a real rollercoaster of emotions, the best kind.
“I choose you“
I don’t know why I waited so long to start this series , now I’m obsessed with it!
I gave it absolutely 5 stars
I hope you’ll love it as much as I did!
The first book in this series left me wanting more and now #2 has done the same! I can’t wait to see where book #3 takes us now! I say this everytime but L.A Cotton has slayed again with this book! The connection that Eva has with all of the band, but especially Race and Levi, is brilliant and very well written. I have really loved this Black Hearts Still Beat journey so far and I really hope that they all get their own book eventually, as their is so much more to delve into! Especially Levi This second installment has all the feels, angst and fabulous characters. It will take you on a journey and leave you wanting more. Be warned though that no adulting will get done when reading this book as you won’t be able to put it down! 5 freaking ‘s all the way!!
This book picks up our story where Rule left off. How do you trust someone who broke your heart? This is the question that Ava must find out, will she risk her heart again or will she walk away from her chance at happiness. This story was full of drama and angst and I loved every word and it brought me to tears.
This book was very high on the angst. It was filled with so many emotions from basically every character involved. I liked that it picked right up where book one left off. I felt like I easily slid back into the groove. And once I started I didn’t want to stop. I couldn’t. The swipes of my kindle were fast and furious. I needed to know what was coming. And as I hurtled though the pages and everything started building up and falling apart hearts started breaking. Both the characters and this readers. It was like the more I learned about these characters the more I connected with them. And so of course I felt for them when they were hurting.
Before I knew it, the story was over. But there was so much still left to be resolved. Where does that ending leave Rafe, Eva and Levi, not to mention the rest of the band. I need book three immediately and I definitely highly recommend Rise.
The sweetheart of Country joins the bad boys of rock on tour.
Eva and Rafe are finding seeing each other again very difficult and try to avoid each other. It works to start with because there is so much going on and Levi is enjoying challenging her every step of the way.
There are some new characters and I loved Letty. She is so funny and works well with Eva who is still a little reserved. I didn’t like Riley but then I don’t think anyone does! It was nice seeing Molly again and her interactions with Hudson were hilarious.
We learn a little bit more about all the band members but it is when Eva and Rafe are drawn back together a few more secrets come to light and explain the darkness that surrounds the Hunters. Throughout the book Rafe does comment on Levi’s behaviour and some of the problems he fights everyday. I felt we actually got more of an insight into Levi than Rafe.
All the band very careful what they say around Eva. To everyone but Levi it is obvious that Rafe and Eva are struggling to hide their feelings and this results in some good banter and funny antics from Hudson. Damon and Letty are more concerned about the consequences of the couple giving in and acting on those feelings. Rafe starts to feel jealous when Hudson dances with Eva and is worried about the games Levi playing but his biggest worry is making sure Levi doesn’t fall off the wagon or relapses with drugs, having done so well in rehab before the tour.
Rafe positive that if he gave into his feelings for Eva , he would be betraying his brother and letting him down especially as everyone has noticed the way Levi looks at Eva. It is strange for Rafe to actually have something he wants for a change after years of sacrificing his life to looking after and protecting Levi.
The tour goes surprisingly well and the band start to enjoy having her around.
Levi’s attempt at an initiation prank fails as Eva yet again challenges him. To reciprocate he drags her up on stage to sing with him but yet again it backfires because everyone loves it.
Levi causes more mayhem but being so reckless and unpredictable I was expecting it.
I liked how she copes with his moods and the real calming effect as she has on him.
The author shows us how much she is beginning to care for all the members of Black Hearts Still Beat and what a survivor she is as the pieces she felt were missing are slowly slotting into place.
My heart went out to the Hunter brothers when Levi confessed that he wasn’t good enough for Eva but she would be great for Rafe, such a moment of clarity for the weirdly wired front man and the exact opposite to Rafe’s thoughts. He also thinks he isn’t good enough and can’t really have Eva, not real just all a fantasy.
The story races on but you just know because of the secrets they are all keeping that things were going to start unravelling. The day it all comes to a head is heartbreaking for everyone concerned. The Hunter brothers are most effected, with Levi”s reaction having catastrophic consequences and this makes Rafe really evaluate his life and his relationship with Eva. There are far more repercussion of Eva being with Rafe than anyone thought .
Even though this is Eva and Rafe’s story ,I felt we actually got more of an insight into Levi than Rafe. Some readers will feel the book ends on a high but for others it will be a cliffhanger . With so many questions unanswered the author leaves the door open on whether the brothers can overcome their problems, if the band can continue and what the future holds for Eva. Hopefully all answered in the next and last book about this couple. I can’t wait to see if Eva and Rafe manage to sort themselves out and get their relationship back on track as they both deserve some happiness.
I’m still very intrigued by this series. The angst, the relationships not only between Eva and Rafe but Levi, Hudson and Damon too. The music performed on the audiobook was a nice touch. I have still so many questions for what is going on and who is giving out all this info. I hope we get answers in Rule. I volunteered to read and review a complimentary copy provided to me. All opinions are my own.
Dang this series is not what I expected but much more. Seeing Eva in the competition and singing her heart out just got to me but now the stakes are getting higher. Not only is Eva seeing the music world in a different way but we see the Black Hearts and I mean the real Black Hearts all the gritty, smooth, sexy and oh my god chemistry between Levi, Rafe and Eva is just wow. There is definitely tons of tension between these three but love how Eva is handling these two rooting for them all the way. One minute I love Rafe and Eva but so want to see how Levi can handle everything happening. My heart in many ways break for Levi and what he is feeling with his own demons. L.A Cotton definitely will grab your heart making you root, hate and just want more of them. Loved it.
“I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.”
Eva is excited, nervous, and anxious before she starts touring with The Black Hearts. Will the dynamic of the band change? Will the fans love her or hate her? Where does that leave her and Rafe? How will they handle being together so much. Oh this story is so emotional with sexual tension,
Oh and the songs and singing in the audible version was great! I can’t wait for the next book!
Sarah Puckett and Michael Norman Johnson are outstanding narrators. They did a fantastic performance, telling the story with such emotion. They bring the angst, raw emotion and personality to each character.

Rise – By L.A Cotton;
I had the absolute pleasure of getting an advanced copy, and let just say it’s worth the wait.
How to even start; when country meets rock, or in Eva case a ‘rose between two thorns’- how she works around two beautifully damaged brothers, and the world of fame.
It’s everything I expected and more, you feel the pain, the brotherly love, and you understand both boys better; I fell in love with Levi as much as Rafe.
You see Eva grow, you see her shine, and you want her to be there for them both, my heart melted and skipped beats all at once over this book.
But, the ending to this book, well, let’s just say it’s worth the wait in gold, and I can’t wait for the next one.
“Eva was my own personal version of hell, taunting me with everything I wanted and could never have.”
“But we weren’t just Rafe and Eva. We were Eva and Black Hearts Still Beat. We were Eva and Rafe… and Levi. And nothing about that was simple.”
Rise, is the second book in this rockstar, small town romance series and continued where it ends on book one. Eva has decided to go on tour with the band in order to help her parents. But will the tour be more than she signed up for? Will Eva be able to moved on from Rafe or it will get them more closer than before?
What I loved about Eva is that after a life changing event in her life, she still stayed as sweet but with enough steel in her spine to pursue her dreams. I liked that she has a good relationship going on with the rest of the band and the guys protect her. I loved the love triangle vibe of the story and I really fell for Levi. As I went through the book, I got to know the story behind the Hunter brothers personalities. I was so hooked into the story and a bit concerned when the other shoe will fall, and my heart broke. The way it ends, I can’t wait to read the final book.
This is Book #2 in the Black Hearts Still Beat Series. Eva’s story continues where the first book left off. I was dying to see what was going to happen and who would end up with Levi or Rafe. I loved seeing how things ended up happening with Eva, Rafe, Levi, and the band. Rafe and Levi, are both sexy and intriguing but I think I’m leaning more towards Levi. This story is emotional and angsty but also with steamy scenes and fun times too. The characters are amazing. It has a great storyline & I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book, Rule to release!

Wow. Just. Crikey I live these characters so much. This book has taken me through all the emotions and I really feel for the characters. They make me want to hug them and make it all better. I’ve loved watching them, what they’re getting up to and how they’re coping with the situations. Michael Norman Johnson and Sarah Puckett do a fabulous job with the narration, really adding nuance to the story. I need to know what happens next!!!
Oh my goodness this story just get better and better and even more dramatic.
This is an excellent continuation of this story and I devoured it,it had me transfixed to every single word I could not put it down, and I can’t wait to read the conclusion.
I highly recommend it .

This is the second installment in the Black Hearts Still Beat Series, a Rock Star Romance. Eva’s story continues where the first book left off. I loved to follow Eva, Rafe, Levi, and the band on their journey. I love Eva. She is a strong survivor, and a lovely young woman. The two brothers, Rafe and Levi, are both intriguing. This story is emotional, fun, and beautiful. I enjoyed it even more than the first book. The characters are amazing, and the storyline is intriguing and captivating. Sara Puckett and Michael Norman Johnson did a great job with the narration. I loved to listen to the songs along the story! I can’t wait to listen to the third and last installment in this amazing Series: Rule: The Final. #AudiobookObsession
If I thought book one in this series took a little bit of my heart then Rise has taken a huge chunk!!
The emotions that run throughout this book have you on the edge of your seat waiting with baited breath and fingers crossed that things will work out. The pain and darkness in all of these characters is intense but also makes you loved them all the more for it!!
I’m on to the Finale now and I don’t want to say goodbye to any of them!
A MUST READ!!

I fell in love with Eva & Rafe in Rush, but they really solidified my good choice in Rise.
Jumping right into the fray, Eva join Black Hearts Still Beat as the opening act on their tour, bringing the country and rock worlds together in a way no one expected.
The chemistry between Eva & the band is evident, and the love they grow together is unique between each member and herself. Let me be clear, this is NOT RH. But the love is there all the same.
Rafe is still struggling with the demons that cripple his brother Levi, and trying to find the balance between what his brother needs and what his heart wants is a battle he wages on every page, tormenting not just him, but the people surrounding him as well.
Eva is in love with Rafe, and I could feel that in every word from her perspective, all she needs is for the stars to align in her favor, and it’s not looking so good.
Again, Cotton has delivered a page turner, leaving us dangling on the edge of something beautiful.
I can’t wait to see where she takes us next!
Oh my goodness this story just get better and better and even more dramatic.
Eva finds herself caught between two brothers in the second book in this series by L.A Cotton
As things become more complicated because Eva is now on tour with Black Hearts, and things have changed between her and Rafe.Their relationship is purely now on a professional basis, but now we find that Rafes brother Levi is getting closer to Eva.So having him thrown into the mix causes all sorts of drama, angst, jealousy and emotions and a tension between them all.
This is an excellent continuation of this story and I devoured it,it had me transfixed to every single word I could not put it down, and I can’t wait to read the conclusion.
I highly recommend it
