BOOK REVIEW : RISE (REAPER REDEMPTION SERIES BOOK 3 ) THEA ATKINSON
A Reaper, A Nepilium, A Necromancer, Ex-Egyptian Goddess Nekhbet & Now Toddler, A Fae Mancer, The Tooth Fairy, Two Fae, Lucifer, And The Angle of Death All Walk Into A Cathedral…
Who Will Walkout With Their Life in Tack? And if They Do, Will It Ever Be The & Same?
We can’t always pick our relatives, but we can pick those of us we wish to call our family. This ever growing odd family adds a new member in baby Nikki, but while Gramps is off to a Magic convention, can Ayla, Sarah, Callum & Nikki, settle in for some peace and quite or will they Rise to the upcoming Dire challenge or will they succumb to the Grim circumstances without Gramps & (will the wards of the home still protect Sarah this time),
and Ayla gets a visit from the Tooth Fairy??? Then all hell breaks loose literally!
But who’s in danger this time? Will it be Sarah from her family, Ayla from those she must reap, Callum from the Supernatural Community of Dyre, or will the family be in danger from baby Nikki, or is it, all of the above?
Thea Atkinson’s creation of Dyre, a small American town full of Supernatural beings, some good, some bad and some evil incarnate, all fighting, some for survival, some for love of family & friends, some for power and some because it’s fun and they can!
Ms Atkinson knows how to write real people as characters, both main & secondary. They’re flawed, each hold secrets, their problematic and all have the capacity for good & bad. Some I love, some I want to love and some I love to hate, but all make me feel as if I’m right in the thick of things, experiencing a crush, the fear, falling in love, or fighting for my life, as if I’m right there along side them in the scenes fighting the good fight!
Ayla – A troubled young woman, in & out of foster homes,
till Gramps partition’s the courts for her guardianship.
Always trying to protect those she loves at their own expense. Rebellious, hard head, stubborn and my favourite character of the book, she has a lot of growing to do, in more ways than one and looked down upon by the towns folk.
Innocent, inexperienced & green in the ways of the supernatural.
Callum – The brave fireman of town and loved by all who know him, always willing to run headlong into danger. Has a strength, a strong willingness and is eager to please. Not yet ready to accept what he wants or who he truly is! Another loveable character, his need to be the hero an endearing trait, but not always needed.
Sarah – Another flawed, troubled young woman in & out of the foster system, till she ran when her family regained her guardianship. Her family life, not one of love and affection.
Has great knowledge of the supernatural, spells, runes witchcraft, Necromancy and wards.
Handy to have around in troubled times.
Gramps – The Elder Statesman of the gang, a once powerful Druid still wise in the ways of magic, quite and reserved, when he speaks, you listen. Calm & wise and a loveable character who you constantly cheer on and love like your own Grandfather. Makes a mean cup of Cocoa.
Azrael – The Angel of Death, I want to love to hate him, but there’s just that thing I can’t quite place my finger on with Az, that makes you love him!
Is he in love with Ayla’s past fallen Angel? And why is he helping her? A cruel, caring, rude, helpful, Angel of Death who wears his heart on his sleeve, when it comes to Ayla.
Definitely more than meets the eye with this character, waiting to reserve judgment on Azreal!
Nikki – A winged Egyptian Demi Goddess, defeat by Ayla & the Scooby gang, saved from reaping by Ayla and living eternity in Az’s Angel cane!
Reincarnated into a baby, with no wings is time, but a baby what? Cared for by mainly by Sarah, with help from Ayla and Callum. Loved and fiercely protected by the whole family.
An exciting, action packed book, keeping me on the edge of my seat! Impossible to put down, this one had me glued to the screen reading faster and faster till my iPad couldn’t keep up, then I had to slow! Keeps you thinking about the story and her characters long after the books finished and laid to rest.
No longer on it’s way to being a favourite series of mine, it’s already there!
I rate Rise 5’s out of 5’s, It Just Keeps On Getting Better & Better, Another Great Success Story Ms Atkinson! You’ve done it again. A Simply Stunning Cover,
A Simply Stunning Book! Can You Rise To The Occasion Again And Make it Three From Three 5’s Books In A Row In The One Series?
I received an advanced readers copy of this book to write a fair and honest review.
