Below you will find my individual review for each book in this amazing series. I’ve ensured that all spoilers have been removed. You don’t want to miss this series!!
The Hawk in Winter *****
At first I felt a little lost when I started reading this book, but by the second or third chapter I was hooked! The story is highly intriguing and the characters extremely well developed. The basic premise of the story is there are 3 ruling families, or houses, on Aemonsha (a planet much like ours) and the Third House has taken control from the First House by force. This happened many years before the story takes place and the story follows Xenya and her 3 young daughters, Maeven, Korla, and Renna, as they plot and plan to take back the empire from the Third House. Ms. Clark kept the story unpredictable, but easy to keep track of all the characters. The story is definitely not for the faint of heart and deals with topics of betrayal, secrecy, religion, and of course fighting. Well worth the read!!
The Raven in Spring *****
While The Hawk in Winter took a few chapters to get into, The Raven in Spring drew me right in. It was great to delve deeper into each character and see how they deal with conflicts. Without giving anything away, it was extremely interesting to see who ends up with each other. Ms. Clark gave us a chance to get to know the Second House who may not be as neutral as they claim. I’m excited to see what happens next! Another great story worth reading. 🙂
The Peacock in Summer *****
Wow! I just finished The Peacock in Summer and all I can say is you’re going to want to have The Vulture in Fall ready to go.
This is a must read!! There are several plots going at once, but Ms. Clark does an amazing job at keeping you from feeling like the story is bouncing all over the place. I love the characters and how they have developed and aged. The ending made me literally gasp out loud! I’m on the edge of my seat waiting to read how the series concludes.
The Vulture in Fall *****
What a wonderful end to an amazing series!
Battles, love, families, connections; this book has it all. I’m not one of those people who like to give a synopsis of the book because I think the description gives you enough information to decide if it’ll interest you. What I will tell you is that over the last 4 books I’ve become attached to the people of Aemonsha and have loved witnessing them face the odds and band together against their enemies.
I truly enjoy Ms. Clark’s writing style and it’s very evident that she loves her characters. There are a lot of heartbreaking things in the series, but that is true to life. We can’t appreciate the happy moments without having the sad moments. I know you’ll be extremely satisfied with the ending of the Rise of the Hawk series.
‘Rise of the Hawk’ is the most amazing series I have read in a long time. I love the world it’s set in and I love the characters living in this world. I bought the individual books and like to share with you my individual ratings.
The Hawk in Winter – 5*
This is the first book by Bekah Clark that I read. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. I loved it! The author built a world where women rule and did it in a way that you just have to love the characters and their surroundings. From the first page on you wonder who is friend and who is foe. Don’t assume anything. Just like in real life people change their minds from one minute to the next. Or do they? Court intrigue, power struggle, love, and madness. It’s all there. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and am looking forward to the next one. Since this is a trilogy don’t expect everything to be resolved in the first book. Highly recommended!
The Raven in Spring – 5*
I love the second book even more than the first. It is very emotional. I felt sorry for Maevan being torn between feeling guilty for not loving Jorgan the way she used to and being confused by her new feelings for Raikar. The author did a great job describing those emotions. That also goes for poor Coran whose life spirals out of control. His depression and addiction make your heart hurt for him. I thoroughly enjoyed the friendship that developed between Korla, Renna and Zenkai. And I totally fell in love with Raikar. Such a strong hero and devoted warrior. The story is well paced and visits all the characters not just some. This way the reader stays engaged throughout the whole book. Personally, I could not put it down. Just like the first book this one has a satisfying end but at the same time hints at more trouble to come. Just because one villain is defeated does not mean there aren’t more waiting to cause trouble. And just because there is love at first side and love a little one-sided does not mean there won’t be roadblocks ahead for those involved. I love this series and highly recommend it.
The Peacock in Summer – 5*
Their journey continues. Again, Ms Clark delivers a gripping story I could not put down. We get more inside into the characters. Their struggles to overcome doubts are sometimes heart-wrenching but the love they show their spouses is heart-warming. Unfortunately, no one is left in peace. New villains threaten their lives. Or are they old villains? It’s obvious those villains will stop at nothing to gain their objective. The part that truly made me cry were the torture scenes. Even so Ms. Clarke did not go into too much detail, from the way she wrote those scenes I could almost bodily feel the pain. Now a war is brewing and decisions have to be made. Some harder than others. And people that hate violence are forced to kill. But there is also more love and maybe more marriages on the horizon. I would love to see a happy ending for all the characters. Only time and book four will tell. Last I would like to point out that The Peacock In Summer ends on a punch-you-in-the-gut cliffhanger. Not sure I like this particular one. I now have to keep my fingers crossed that all will be well in the end. This is another terrific book by Ms Clark and I highly recommend the whole series.
The Vulture in Fall – 5*
‘The Vulture In Fall’ is the fourth and final book in the ‘Rise Of The Hawk’ series. I absolutely love the whole series. The characters’ journeys and their ups and downs kept my interest all the way to the end. And what an end it was! War has come to Aemonsha. Conflicts everywhere you look. Nobody is safe. And, like in every war, tough decisions have to be made and not everyone survives. Death is unavoidable. But who will live and who will die? This last book truly kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. The story is very emotional and made me cry more than once. The last few chapters, however, made me smile a lot. In my opinion, Ms Clark did an extraordinary job telling the story and I applaud her. I only wish there were more books in this series. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
