Oh, my, what to say about this wonderful book. I haven’t read a lot of sci-fi romance, but I plan on reading more of them after this book.
Kove captured my heart right off and Nova was a strong, interesting female character. I loved the chemistry between them and the constant push-pull going on with Kove and Nova. The secondary characters were also great. The twist near the end broke my heart and angered me, but redemption came quickly.
I loved this story so much that I purchased the second book in the continuing story and started reading immediately after finishing this book. I hope and suspect it will be as good as this one.
If you like sci-fi and romance, check out this heart-wrenching yet, eventually, heartwarmingly romantic story. I highly recommend it.
Rise of the Gladiator: Forbidden Planet by Cheree Alsop
Wow, if you want non-stop action, this book and series is for you. I wasn’t crazy about how quickly the romance developed, but it did not slow this bobsled ride down one bit. While the writing was simple and easy to read, the writing style was developed and well planned out. She let the “here and now” dictate when and how the history of the characters (both main and secondary) would be introduced, One minute, you are fighting a battle in an arena, and suddenly you are flashing back to the past, to put current events into perspective. I know that adding a couple of characters into book three as antagonists was a little bit of a stretch, but just push over that hump. I can truly appreciate a well written, simple, straight forward, entertaining story, as much as I can a “space opera” or epic adventure filled with tons of characters, and plots and subplots, and a dozen books. I think most anyone would like this series and if the initial three are where Cheree Alsop decides to stop, it works. I would like her to think about some additional adventures for “the Captains” though. I know I would read them.
I like that the story was told from different character pov. Enjoyed that the gladiator was not just muscle and of course, an unparallelled warrior but he also had real depth, used both humor and intelligence in all encounters, plus had the most interesting back story. Overall, he was the most compelling character of this book.
The author did an excellent job in developing the character and how even the best-motivated individual can still hurt others.
It was a pretty good story and good world building but not a great romance. It showed the alternate world well but you have to read the next installment to get the full story which is disappointing. Overall a pretty good story but wish it would have completed in one book.
kept me reading
If you enjoy plot twists, your head will be left spinning. This book boasts interesting characters, lots of action and a terrific storyline. It’s exciting to watch the characters evolve and you’re left wondering where they will go from here.
Imagine you are a fighter. One of those who must fight to stay alive. You have fought and killed many, even drafted into a war where you were more than victorious, all to reach the rank that meant freedom. Now you find your former “owner” has died and his son is selling you to a strange group led by a young woman named Nova. They don’t tell you why, just that you must be her bodyguard.
After saving her and her shipmates you learn the real reason, but it’s too late.
This is a “love story” in space. What happens to Kovak isn’t just fate and Cheree Alsop tells a good story with out filling it with un needed actions.
Good reading for young readers who like Science Fiction.
very enjoyable read, recommend reading the series
I enjoyed the book, very entertaining
I loved this space opera! The characters had me from the beginning to the end in an intricately formed, character-driven arc that completes in a satisfying way but leaves you wanting more. It’s a series and I can’t wait to read the next book.
Fantastic fantasy, taut thrilling!
Writes to the standard sf formula without being completely predictable. It is a fun read which will keep you wanting to see what happens next.
This book might be a good read for others. It just wasn’t my kind of read. I was expecting a sci-fi read instead it was a harlequin romance set in the future.
This book was kind of like candy for reading. Not great world or character building but it was entertaining none the less. If you want an easy read with lots of action this is the book.
Great book, I really enjoyed this one very much, was missing some of the character’s background, so was a little confused as to what was happening and why. Still was very interesting and enjoyable.
A good solid start to the series. It made me want to read the next book.
fun to read
Kovak the gladiator is hired to rescue the brother of a princess, and he falls for her while demonstrating tremendous courage and power while carrying out the rescue. Excellent series for those who like space adventure.
Really enjoyed this book, can’t wait for the next in the series!
