A reader recommended this one to me, and I’m so glad I checked out the series. Really well-drawn characters, fabulous romance, and the secondary storylines were so good. I loved the whole cast and rooted for this couple. All the feels.
This is one of my favourite rock star romances of all time, in fact I love it so much I read it when it first came out then again recently to write this review. One of the best things about it for me as an older reader is that it features characters closer to my age that I can relate to rather than young band members starting out. It has a unique plot with aged and larger than life rock star Zander Freedman deciding to use Pulitzer prize winning historical author Elizabeth Winston to write his memoir.
It is obvious from the beginning that their relationship is never going to run smoothly, Zander is used to getting his own way, and doing everything to his own timetable. In addition he is struggling with an illness that threatens to derail his multi million dollar tour and his newly resurrected career. Elizabeth is a perfectionist who is not willing to put her prestige and career on the line to write a shoddy book.
As mayhem swirls around Zander, Elizabeth tries her best to remain grounded, stick to the task in hand and avoid falling for him, but this is proving impossible as he will only tell her what he wants her to know and not the real truth about his life. But Elizabeth is not stupid and knows that there is a lot more to this man that he is revealing to her. Yes, this is a clash between two strong forces who refuse to back down until feelings get in the way.
This is an unforgettable story that should be in the collection of every rocker romance lover. Karina has written other books featuring the characters in Rise and I am excited to read more of her work.
What a fabulous book to end 2020 on! This was definitely one of the better straightforward contemporary romances I’ve read in awhile. Being that it was a rock star romance, surprised me even more.
Rise had a unique setup – nerdy historical biographer shadows founding band member and lead singer of popular rock band, while on tour. I loved the heroine right from the start and her character remained consistent throughout. No melodrama or ludicrous decisions. Those who know me, tolerate my irrational pickiness and understand my appreciation for a solid heroine. Zander was also pretty wonderful. Like I implied, I’m not usually a fan of rock star romances, but a veteran rock star, reformed to clean living while hiding that fact along with a potentially debilitating ailment, was an intriguing spin. Coupled with a smart, rather straight-laced heroine, and I found their connection fascinating.
The author really nailed the story and character development. Not only did she keep me interested in the ensuing romance between the leads, but she kept me intrigued about the multifaceted secondary characters. Not one remained tied to my original impressions. Either divine intervention helped this author create an impeccably developed book or she invested the time and energy it took to give her audience a romance that stood out among the rest. Quite often, I gravitate towards historical and women’s fiction in order to find stories with this type of development. I forget there are still some authors that write romance-focused books with the development I crave as a reader.
Maybe my enjoyment of this book was amplified by the rarity in finding romances that hit all the right buttons for me in regards to details, story development, and characterizations. Regardless, I loved these characters and the time I got to spend with them.
Awesome characters with realistic issues, wit and faults. I laughed, was entertained, taken over. Couldn’t wait for the next book
I tried this series on a whim and I am glad I did! Karina Bliss is a great author with true talent. I love this whole series and can’t wait for the next one to come out!
