I love Toby Neal, her characters and her writing about Hawaii!!! Great for house-bound corona-virus days!!!
written well
I like this main character. She is not perfect but wrestles with things in her past and doing the right thing. Keeps me entertained with having to think just enough.
I loved this book. It sent me back to reading as many of Toby Neal’s books as I can get hold of. I highly recommend it. It does help to read them in order but not absolutely necessary. This author is a terrific writer and her books are hard to put down.
A page turner of action.
I’ve read other books from Toby Neal. This book is in the crime series about Detective Lei. I must have missed a couple books so I’ll be look for those. Been to Maui many times and love it! The Hawaiian people are great and have a laid back life style.
I had forgotten how much I like this author and this series. The characters are so real to me. A police procedural/investigation is so different when the crime happens in Hawaii. Surfers and bikini models and families and a multitude of suspects. The ongoing story of the law enforcement families reminds me that police and FBI are real people with hopes and fears and people who depend on them, just like the rest of us, with the added complication of a very dangerous job.
Good writing, good characters, good story. And in Hawaii. The best!
Very intriguing. Hard to put down.
Fast-paced, page turner. Excellent characters with believable plotting. Well done.
It starts slow…kind of girlie, but then it gets interesting enough to keep me glued.
I loved that you couldn’t figure out who done it till you found out st the very end.
Great read, like all the Toby Neal books!
Good mystery. It was well crafted and moved at a good pace. I started in the middle of the series, so there were references to events from earlier books, but nothing too confusing. I will try another in this series.
Excellent book if you like mysteries and police action novels.
A very good crime story in which SGT Lei Texeira s works a possible murder of a celebrity surfer. Lei and her partner follow connections to the victim and those around him. Clues lead to people on Oahu and the big island. After trimming the list of potential suspects, a gathering of those suspects leads to an explosive conclusion.
So in this book we find ourselves on the beautiful beaches of Hawaii. Not a bad place to be if you ask me but maybe not so much when a pro surfer meets his demise while enjoying some gnarly waves. Lei catches the case with her trusty partner Pono, whom I absolutely adore! I enjoyed seeing Lei jump back into action without causing mortal danger to herself and her little family and she actually manages to make it out of this investigation with very little bodily harm which if you know Lei Texeira that’s like a miracle. Meanwhile, Stevens and his equally gorgeous younger brother Jared have a bit of a run in themselves with a family member they hadn’t planned or even expected to hear from. Aside from this bit of personal family business, everything seems to be coming around for Lei and Stevens and their family life. Dr. Wilson couldn’t have said it better…
”To being afraid and choosing to live fully anyway.”
I like the stories because they are well written and exciting. I also love Hawaii and appreciate the description of the scenery and social life.
Not the best of this series but entertains and is a fun read.
This series and the new one derived from it are just outstanding reads with characters that I really emote with and care for with good story liners. The romance is tolerable for us action readers
Love the local. Characters you care about.
