What great characters! The author wove a good story together with a lot of skill. Her real strength is her portrayal of ordinary people with deep human feelings and passions. Her depiction of the devastation wreaked by a toxic alcoholic parent on her grown children in just two days was spot on. And let’s not forget the exotic locale, Hawaii. I always go for that
As I am totally in love with Lei Texeira and Stevens this story revolving around surfer dudes, bikini models and cops had everything I could ask for. Now I have never been to Hawaii but I did live in Huntington Beach, Ca and frequented the Pro surfing championships there every year from start to finish so I could really identify with the inner circle of surfing which really made this so enjoyable for me. Definitely put this on your “to read” list. You won’t be sorry!
Enjoyed it very much. I surfed in my youth & loved the setting of Hawaii & the world’s best surfers!!
As a fan of this series, I was not disappointed. Great original story and one that doesnt’s necessesarily need to be read in exact order of the series.
I enjoyed reading a cop story not set in the usual venues (NYC, Los Angeles) and featuring some unusual plot twists. I’m going back to read the earlier ones.
This ninth book in the Lei Crime series is another solid entry.
Lei has evolved completely away from the person she was in the first book. Showing steady growth in a character is something few authors do well, but Neal has mastered it.
As in the last few books in the series, there is a good balance here between main characters’ professional and personal lives although this book leaned a little more toward the personal.
To be completely honest, one of the reasons I like these books is the Hawaii setting. My daughter lives there and since chances are I’ll never get to visit the islands, I can ‘tour’ her world vicariously through these books.
Many characters in this story leave a room, slamming the door behind them. Most of the time it seemed an appropriate actions but one or two times it didn’t.
The resolution here seemed to come a bit more ‘out of the blue’ than that in previous books. But that’s only a minor quibble.
There are more books in this series. And that’s cause for joy.
Great story that will hold your interest.
Great twisty, Hawaiian murder who-done-it.
Love the characters and the interaction- have read other stories with same characters. Some sadness, but much love and camaraderie. Good story development
Anything by this author! Action, suspense, good characters. Well paced.
I have enjoyed this series as a whole. The characters and plots were interesting, and I found myself wanting to move on to the next book to see what would unfold next.
Loved the settings in Hawaii
“To being afraid. And choosing to live fully anyway.” What a great toast and a great way to review this novel.
Read all Toby Neal writes
Toby Neal writes wonderful stories.
Strong female protagonist. A cover to cover read.
well written. It followed through in a way that was understandable. I didn’t anticipate the twists, but loved them.
Love this series
I love anything Toby Neal writes!
I love that Lei is healing so well from her past. I love how the commitment between her and Stevens deepens. They now have added to their family which is such an important part of life in Hawaii. The mystery itself is a real action packed page turner. Just when you think you know who-dun-it, there is a twist. Amazing writing!
