RIOT HOUSE is a 137,000-word standalone book in the Crooked Sinners Series and does not end on a cliffhanger. Future books in the series will feature other characters. This book contains dark content that may be considered a trigger for some readers, and as such is recommended for readers 17+
They might be richer than gods, but they’re morally bankrupt.
As far as the boys who run America’s most … run America’s most exclusive international academy are concerned, I’m an unwelcome interloper, an inconvenience, and they’re determined to make my life a living hell.
When Wren Jacobi sets eyes on Wolf Hall Academy’s newest inductee, all he sees is an easy mark. A reserved little girl with a target painted on her back. He knows nothing of my troubled past, though. Nothing of my mother’s suspicious death, or the horrific treatment I’ve had to endure at the hands of my psychotic father. And he has no idea of the lengths that I, unassuming little Elodie Stillwater, will go to in order to break the savage beast who dreams of breaking me first.
There’s a wolf stalking the forests that surround my new school.
Little does he know…
There are far scarier predators lurking out there in the dark.

Love this book so much! Elodie is moved to start a new school with a moments notice. Wren is secretive. All the characters were amazing. I finished this book, then I wanted to start all over again. Such a great book with twists and turns. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!

“From the crown of his head to the low-slung waistband of his jeans, Wren is the stuff of sweet, heavenly dreams, and twisted, terrifying nightmares.”
I’m still shook!!!! I finished this book a few days ago and I still may not be able to find the words other than this shot to the top of one of my most favorite reads of the year so far!! Wren was like he was written for me…every imperfection, flaw, demon, sly smirk he gave ground him so deep in my soul, I fell in love with him myself. His intelligence, quiet dominance, and his intensity just completely blew me away and honestly had me squirming in my seat when he set his sights on Elodie. Once the chase was on, it dropped my stomach and filled it with butterflies the entire time. The underlying mystery surrounding them just gave a deeper dimension to the story, along with the fantastic line of supporting characters that just made it so incredibly engrossing. It was a movie in my head from start to finish, and I never wanted it to end!!
“How easily this could all end in disaster. How quickly I could lose myself, and how effortlessly I could break her. I feel it in her, as she must feel it in me. ”
Their fall, the spiraling events, how it all progressed was nothing short of magically genius, and I honestly wish I could read it again for the first time. No matter how much Wren and Elodie fought the attraction, it was just too strong to deny. Some of the hottest, scorching, sexy, seductive, and flaming hot scenes I had the pleasure of reading lay in this book, and everyone, everywhere needs to read it!! I thank the Author for providing a copy to review and I am unbelievably hyped for the rest of the Riot Boys!!
“I’ve always been a depraved and dirty thing Elodie Stillwater, but the idea of you has corrupted me to the point of insanity.”

A twisted, angsty slow-burning tale of young love.
Riot House is my first book by author Callie Hart, it’s also a brand new series and it’s quite an eye-opener.
Elodie has transferred to a new school state-side after being in Tel Aviv where her father’s military was stationed. Elodie hasn’t had an easy life and was hoping for some downtime at this new school.
Wren Jacobi, looks like he has the world at his feet, but like Elodie, his home life is far from idyllic. He’s a troubled young man, and at first, his plans for Elodie were far from how they turned out. For one. She didn’t flinch, she wasn’t scared and she stood up to him. She makes the boy he once was, want to come back. But can he?
Wolf Hall isn’t your typical school. It’s hiding secrets, deep, dark, and troublesome secrets. Secrets that could tear this fledgling couple apart or draw them closer together. Their chemistry was blisteringly hot, and their intimate scenes equally so.
This was a dark, sometimes twisted, story and some of the characters were hard to like, never mind love. I’m intrigued as to how the next books will continue on from this one though and will be waiting eagerly to find out.
This is the first book in the Crooked Sinners series, and the story of Elodie, and the boys of the Riot House, Wren, Pax and Dash. When Elodie transfers to Wolf Hall Academy, she catches the eye of Wren, and his friends. This was an intriguing read, the characters are well written, and their story kept me engaged.
I received this ARC for an honest review from the author. Thank you!
Riot House by Callie Hart in the first book in the series Crooked Sinners and I cannot wait to read the next book in this series. Riot House is a bully romance with complex characters and dramatic and with twists. Wolf Hall Academy is a special academy for children whose fathers were in the military. This is the story of Elodie and Wren Jacobi, two kids with secrets and both had military fathers.
Elodie was sent to this academy by her father Colonel Stilwater and Elodie was happy to be away from her violent father and to be finally free. When she arrives at the academy she meets a Wren, her bully.
“Why am I so dead set on her?
Because she’s innocent, and I’m not.
Because she’s wholesome, and I’m not.
Because she’s untainted, and I’m not.
And most importantly of all, because she’ll be so pretty when I make her cry.”
Wren Jacobi was obsessed with her until she arrived at the Academy and he decided that Elodie was his new target. What Wren didn’t know about Elodie is that she is strong and resilient and when he pushed she will be pushing back. Elodie’s life wasn’t easy with her father and because of that, she was strong enough to stand up for herself and to deal with Wren.
“I’m cursed with this bewildering fascination over you, and it’s really becoming… inconvenient, Stillwater.”
Wren was intrigued by Elodie and slowly she becomes to be more for him. They began their secret relationship and they didn’t let that the opinions of their friends to influence their relationship or their feelings. Once, they fall in love, their no going for them.
“Because I’ve found my person now. In case you haven’t realized it yet, you are endgame for me, Elodie Stillwater.”
Riot House by Callie Hart is my kind of bully romance. I loved how their relationship grew and how changed for Elodie just to be with her. I love how brave and strong were Elodie. I loved a Wren and how he loved a Elodie. I loved everything about this book.
Wow! Callie Hart has done it again!!
I’m a huge Callie Hart fan since the release of Blood & Roses so every time I hear she’s releasing a new book, I jump on the bandwagon and Riot House is no exception! I have been anxiously awaiting this release and so glad I got the opportunity to devour this baby while suffering through quarantine. It was definitely the reprieve I needed.
Riot House is bully romance at its best and left me yearning for more. A fascinating crew of characters that brought this story to life – Elodie, Wren, Carina, Dash, and Pax will forever hold a special place in my heart!!
After suddenly having her life uprooted from Tel Aviv, Elodie Stillwater finds herself as the new student in Wolf Hall Academy, a prestigious high school where the rich and military bound drop their kids off with the intention of not returning. For most teen girls this would be a scary thing to face but for Elodie life hasn’t ever been easy. Being raised by her father, Colonel Stillwater, Elodie’s had to learn how to take care of herself. She’s strong and independent and prepared to make Wolf Hall seem like a walk in the park.
As Elodie tries to find her footing in her new normal, she discovers her peers are in a league of their own. A league she has no business even entertaining. A handsome teacher who uses foul-language in class and is a splitting image of Clarke Kent, boys who talk back and don’t follow the rules, and catty girls who let their jealousy rule, this is just the beginning of Wolf Hall Academy. Elodie soon gets sucked into the mysterious clutches of none other than Wren Jacobi, one of the Riot House boys that she’s been warned to steer clear of.
Wren is a mystery from his elusive behavior to his endless dark eyes. Living in Riot House which is down the hill from the academy, he shares his space with his two best friends Dash and Pax. The boys of Riot House are known for their tormenting and blatant disrespect for authority and Elodie comes to learn that she’s become the next target on their radar.
Wren and Elodie have an instant attraction that they try to deny but their chemistry simmers under the surface bubbling up in the form of hate until it finally explodes into something neither of them ever expected!!
“You are going to be mine, Elodie Stillwater. Of all my sins and misdeeds, making you fall in love with me will be the very worst of them.”
Honestly, this book was fabulous!! It’s a little longer than it needed to be but I will say that I understand the reasoning. It starts off kind of slow but the content is of value as Callie Hart lays the ground work and develops each character before she hits you with the twist. Stick in there and keep reading because once you hit the sweet spot, the story just comes together and keeps you begging for more!!
If you’re looking for a good enemies to lovers/bully romance, then this one is sure to hit the spot!!

I loved Wren and Elodie. Elodie was incredibly strong and although a bit jaded she could have been a whole lot worse and would have had every right to be. She was sassy but also sweet. Wren was the bad boy we all know we shouldn’t love but we do. He was alpha and possessive which I loved but he was also kind of sweet, not normal sweet, Wren sweet.
I can’t wait for more books in this series so I need more about the other Riot House boys
I have to admit, when I read a taste of this in the anthology, I was wary.
Not because it wasn’t shaping up to be an unbelievable story, but because it was already so good, with just a snippet, I was concerned about how Hart was going to follow through and raise the ante.
But oh my gosh, I worried for ABSOLUTELY NO REASON.
The twists! I don’t want to shout, it’s rude, but like, how on earth was I to know that’s what was coming?!
The character development, not just for the MC’s but for the gang as well? Absolutely astounding. I made new friends. I loved & breathed this world for hours on end, because I couldn’t step away to function like a human being.
I need to take another trip to Riot House. Soon.
RIOT HOUSE by CALLIE HART is the First book in the Crooked Sinners Series. This is the story of Wren Jacobi and Elodie Stillwater. Elodie has been living under her father’s dark abusive psychotic rule so she is no stranger to abuse nor the lost of someone…her mother. Elodie’s father, Colonel Stillwater has sent her to Wolf Hall Academy where she had to leave behind her friends but she is at least away from him. Wolf Hall Academy is were rich parents and military parents send their kids.
Wren, Pax and Dash run the Wolf Hall Academy as students there. Wren is a dark person who thinks he has no heart or true emotional feelings. When he learns of the newest member Elodie has enter the Academy, Wren wants to torment her. Elodie is ‘fresh meat’ to him but what he doesn’t expect when he meets her is to be attracted to her and to have emotions toward her. Now, Wren has other plans in mind. Great Dark Bully Read! I hope to read more from this author and series.
I just want to start by saying HOLY COW the cover for this book is so freaking hot. It fits well with the story and just screams the main character, I love it so much.
Wolf Hall is surrounded by secrets, Twisted and dark secrets and secrets always come out in the end, right? It’s just a waiting game.
Elodie is a transfer at Wolf Hall. She’s been living under her military fathers strict rules and getting away from that is a relief even if where she’s going isn’t exactly great either. She’s strong and smart and doesn’t take anyone’s bs.
Wren. Wren is a dark, handsome devil in disguise. He’s always silent, all he needs to do is look at people for them to run in the opposite direction. Deep down inside there’s a whole other side, a side that doesn’t get much daylight. He’s caring and smart but he’s set in his ways and the last thing he even expects to happen is the new girl making him feel things.
Watching these two is amusing, they’re drawn to each other from the start and boy, is it fun.
I truly hope Dash and and Pax get their own stories too because these two are intriguing and honestly, I can’t wait to hear what’s in their twisted heads.
Reading Callie Hart’s books is always, without a doubt entertaining. It’s always a joy and I can’t wait for my next fix.
Riot House Is dark and twisted and full of secrets. The perfect mixture for an amazing book.
The synopsis for Riot House, a new book by one of my favorite authors, got me very excited and I couldn’t wait to dive in.
I loved the premise of the story, the twists and turns, and especially the intriguing and suspenseful elements. I enjoyed the characters themselves, their personalities and getting to know them over the course of the book. Whilst I don’t think it’s always fair to compare books like for like, Riot House is after all its own story, I did find myself referring back to the Raleigh High series by this author, simply because it is part of the same genre. Because of that, I was expecting the story here to unfold with a similar speed, to move forward with the same pacing as Raleigh High and that’s not the case. It’s slower paced and character driven, and much more angsty than I was anticipating. Although I enjoyed seeing their personalities emerge and develop, I would, however, have liked to have seen more of Wren’s dark and dangerous side. That part of his personality for the most part was implied, or eluded to rather than explicitly shown. I like the dark, explicit scenes this author normally writes and I feel that was one thing I didn’t get enough of here. We also didn’t get to “meet” Elodie’s dad. A somewhat shadowy character, there are many references to him, he was talked about a lot, his awful nature, and his terrible deeds, but we didn’t get to experience it ourselves by way of scenarios which actually included him in person. For me, the story would’ve had more of an impact if we had.
This author has a fantastic way with words and although I found the beginning rather slow paced, my favorite parts of the story were the edge of your seat moments that came towards the end of the book, when the events the plot had been leading up to came to fruition and took off running. The tangled web that had been woven, the twists and turns and finally the revelations, were brilliant. Wren and Elodie’s story is one of strength, perseverance and obsessive love. Although their journey may have reached its conclusion as far as this book is concerned, the ending leaves room for further books about the pupils of Wolf Hall academy and I can’t wait to see what other secrets lie behind its formidable oak doors.
Watch out for this new one from Callie Hart! So much angst between Elodie and Wren! This book had so much heart, I absolutely loved the depth of Ele’s backstory. Wren with all the complex FEELINGS. I loved all the wrongness and mystery of it, thats what kept me turning the pages. And PAX. I WANT MORE PAX! Dash and Carrie need their story told, and I do hope somewhere down the line someone melts Mercy’s ice queen exterior because I’m hoping there is a good heart in there. I mean she’s sharing genes with Wren so there is hope! Can’t wait for more!
‘Because she’ll be so pretty when I make her cry.’
.
I had absolutely no idea what to expect when Riot House popped up on my Kindle. The blurb sounded dark & delicious. The cover is absolutely gorgeous. I was intrigued. I had no idea that I would be useless for the night once I started reading it because I just couldn’t get myself to stop reading and put it down.
.
Riot House is Fan-Freaking-Tastic!!! &
.
Wow! Wow! Wow! I loved everything about this book. These characters are so beautifully broken. I loved them or I loved to hate them. The guys of Riot House actually produced a visceral reaction in me. They seemed so vile at times. The twists and turns were amazing. I loved Wren & Elodie. Their chemistry was palpable. I was not expecting their love story to develop the way it did. I certainly wasn’t expecting this book to develop the way it did either. I loved that I had no idea what was going to happen next. It isn’t often that a book can completely surprise me but Riot House did just that…. And that ending!
.
Definitely a MUST READ!
Wolf Hall Academy has it’s twisted little secrets. Immerse yourself in boarding school drama with their new transfer Elodie and the rich boys Wren, Pax and Dash who run the school. The Riot House boys keep things exciting. It’s going to be a hot and dirty education!
I was consumed in their world. I tried not to devour this story, because I did not want it to end.
Wren had great depth. He was an enigma. Ruler of the school, yet prefers solitude. Well read and intelligent. He thinks he has no heart, but he feels deeply. Elodie quickly became his obsession. She was just supposed to be a target. The new girl to torment and manipulate and use until he tires of her. He never expected the girl that showed up to be the one to change him. She changed everything.
Elodie has lived under her military father’s absolute rule for years. Being sent away to boarding school is a welcome reprieve. She’s used to being beaten down, so she’s strong and resilient. Wren thinks he’ll be able to break her, but he has no idea who he’s dealing with. Elodie can stand on her own. The Riot House boys don’t scare her. She’ll make her own way.
Wren is drawn to her. She’s no longer his target, she’s become more. He no longer wants to tear her down, he wants to ruin her in a whole other way.
Elodie feels the pull between them. Even though she should stay away, she just can’t resist. The connection they share is otherworldly. It was beautifully passionate. When the two of them came together, it was soul searing. A monumental moment that would link them irrevocably.
A relationship that they keep secret because everyone has an opinion and their own agenda. So many stories among them that were left untold. Dangerous games will be played and it will put some of their lives at risk. The truth will come out and you will be shocked!
A NA bully romance that will leave you wanting more of these characters. Dash, Pax and Mercy each have their own story’s to tell (I hope ). I envied the love between Wren and Elodie. It was truly incredible the way they were drawn to one another and how far they fell into eachother. Great characters with pasts and multiple layers that made them interesting and left me wanting EVERYTHING. Wren and Elodie’s evolution as a couple was what made me love this story and quickly hit my Top Reads List for 2020!!!
Escape comes in the form of Wolf Hall Academy. She can breathe once again.
He’s the hunter and she’s his prey and has been ever since he found out she was arriving.
Fascinated yet aware of the rumours that surround him, can she convince herself and him that she’s not interested…
A teaser for this book was written in the bully anthology that was released earlier this year. Now here is the full story of Elodie and Wren.
He’s the shadow in the night, the dark hearted prince that wont save your soul.
She’s the broken but not defeated innocent lamb, that’s full of sunshine and goodness.
But appearances can be deceptive can’t they …
I loved how he tried to bait her, and she merely took the high road, that had me chuckling quietly.
There’s more to her than her blonde locks that’s for sure and I enjoyed watching her true character reveal itself.
Much the same can be said for Wren. He might be the bad guy, but underneath the walls so high lies a guy worth knowing.
I must admit I expected more tormenting and bullying than angst and drama but it didnt deter me from reading this nor thoroughly enjoying it.
A slow starter but once the pace increases the edge of your seat becomes your friend.
Callie Hart knows just how to spin a story leaving you needing just one more clue, one more crumb, one more anything that’s for sure!
I love Callie Heart’s books so much and RIOT HOUSE was no exception! I’ve read an excerpt from this book in the BULLY ME: Class of 2020 Anthology and I was instantly hooked! So when there was an opportunity to read and review an advanced reader copy of this book I went for it!
RIOT HOUSE is about Elodie and Wren.
Elodie is a New student at Wolf Hall Academy and Wren’s instantly interested in her.
At first to torment and torture her but it’ll soon become more.
Elodie is no soft flower – she knows how to fight back and Wren is about to be handed his ass. I love it when the heroine is strong and no pushover – that’s exactly what Elodie is: strong!!
Both of them have had a rough upbringing and have military Dads. But this didn’t have the same impact on the two of them. Wren is also strong but in a completely different way: he just doesn’t give a shit and let’s nobody really near him, except little E
My insights hurt so much while reading this book, because of all the trauma they’ve been through and all the unfairness that has happened to them. But this is a good kind of hurt because the author has so much talent to get you 100 percent zoned into the story and the characters that you feel for them!
There was also a huge surprise in this book: a small mystery to solve. I really didn’t expect this but I was positively surprised
And the plot was just amazing! There were hints here and there but the writing was so on point and I’ll bet some will be like: no way
This book is one of my top reads this year so far and I can’t wait to read more books from Callie Hart
100 percent recommendation to anyone that loves a good bully high school romance with a touch of mystery and a strong heroine
Callie is back to torture her readers with all new characters. If you read the Bully Me anthology then we got a little tease of Wren and Elodie, for me that was enough to make me desparate for their full book. One thing I will not do is tell you the intracasies of the story or why the characters act the way they do the story is too good to be spoilt that way.
As a writer the way Callie constructs her worlds and uses imagery is amazing. It was so easy to imagine myself at Wolf Hall Academy walking the halls and tryng to discover it’s secrets. Elodie Stillwater is the new girl who turns up late at her new school, even that part felt ominous and raised questions. Met by the enigmatic Wren Jacobie who would either be a psychologists nightmare or a fascinating study subject. If you believe in auras Wren’s would be black, from his moods to his humour to the way he dresses he gives off this don’t **** with me vibe. Elodie is a fighter a survivor her strength of character and strength of will literally jumps off the pages.
I’m not sure how to decribe their relationship, part bully part obsession but full on intense. There is something about each other that just calls to their souls. The chemistry is insane the push and pull
drags the reader further into their lives. That there is a mystery running throughout the story should not be forgotten, it was weaved into the story so well.
It is dark and mysterious, scary and addictive prepare for a crazy ride full of surprises.
***4 “rioting” stars***
“If you ever find yourself stranded and alone on this road, do not go knocking on that door for help, Elodie. Whatever you do, no matter the circumstances, do not step foot inside Riot House. For better or worse, you won’t come out the same.”
This was a very good story, even though in the beginning it was confusing as hell!!!!
The scenery wasn’t the usual and i believe that i liked the small differences than our usual school-bully romances!!!
Wren and the the other Riot House boys were delightful to read and i’m wishing that there will be more stories set on Wolf Hall!!!
I won’t lie to you!!! The first half of the book was very slow for my taste, but the other half was so wonderful!!! I just didn’t want to stop reading!!!!
“This place isn’t a regular school for regular kids. It’s a jail cell dressed up as a place of learning, where army officers who can’t be bothered dealing with their own kids dump them without a second thought, knowing that they’ll be watched over with a military-like focus. Wolf Hall.”
Elodie had a hard life living with her bastard of a military father!!!!
Now, thankfully she is shipped far away from him, on Wolf Hall and there her life is beggining to change, even though her father’s shadow is always looming upon her…
From the first moment, she is drawn to Wren Jacobi, a boy so different from the others…
A boy that he is determined to make her life a living hell and who has a dark past…
“Smart girls don’t tangle with the devil.
Girls who have a good head on their shoulders stear clear of this kind of trouble.”
“He’s brutal, and he’s mean, and he’s rotten down to his very core. I can’t escape him, though. There’s a very real danger that he’ll hold his cup to my lips, and I’ll drink down his poison like I’m dying and he’s the cure.”
Wren and his boys were some sort of powerful kings on Wolf Hall…. Dark kings!!!
They were living outside the campus, in Riot House, and they were above everyone else in their own fucked yp way…
These boys had many issues, but Wren had a weird reaction toward Elodie, before even he had to lay his eyes on her…
I won’t lie to you… I liked Wren very much, even though the half time, i couldn’t understand him…
“Wren is the stuff of sweet, heavenly dreams, and twisted, terrifying nightmares.
“Why am I so dead set on her?
Because she’s innocent, and I’m not.
Because she’s wholesome, and I’m not.
Because she’s untainted, and I’m not.
And most importantly of all, because she’ll be so pretty when I make her cry.”
As you can understand, Wren and Elodie had started developing feelings toward each other…
But there are too many things that are standing between them…
Too many dark secrets from both parts…
Can they manage to overcome everything and be together, even with all the scars that are both carrying inside of them???
“I’m cursed with this bewildering fascination over you, and it’s really becoming… inconvenient, Stillwater.”
“The old adage is true: it’s impossible to look away from a car crash. And I already know that Wren Jacobi isn’t just a metaphorical car crash. He’s a fifteen-car pile-up, and there are already people dead at the scene. I’m headed straight for him, though, and I can’t steer myself away. Worst of all, I’m not wearing a seatbelt, and motherfucker’s cut my brake lines.”
I enjoyed this story very much, even though i could be more satisfied with less pages…
The book was very long and as i told you above the first half was really slow in every aspect, but the second half repaid me for the waiting…
The second part was intense and it had much action… Secrets that were revealed!!!
But to be totally honest with you, i thought that Wren’s dark past would be more dark and i was disappointed a little bit…
“My heart’s a grenade. It’s safer where it is, locked in its cage. You take it outta there and you’re essentially pulling the pin.”
“What happens then?”
“I don’t know. No one’s ever tried.”
Overall, this story was good…
Elodie, even small on appearance, she was feisty and i liked that characteristic of hers…
Wren was misunderstood, i believe!!! He seemed to be dark, fucked up and wild, but he was also very intelligent with a gentleness that he was hiding very well…
I really loved the guy!!!
These two were fitting really good together…. They could understand each other and they could be the balm for the other’s soul.
“I’m his prisoner, and Wren Jacobi is not a benevolent jailer. He’ll keep me under his lock and key until he’s bored of me, and I get the impression that his obsessions are for life.”
“She’s everything good and light in this world and being in her presence is like emerging from a prison cell after so many long, dark years and finally feeling the sun on my face.”
Also…. Dashier and Pax, the other Riot House Boys, were soooo strange!!!! But i believe they are harmless as well!!! I would love to read their stories too!!!
And Mercy’s of course!!!! This girl was….. Fucked up, but intriguing as hell!!!
“The best way not to fear a monster was to become one.”
***I received an Arc for the exchange of an honest review.***
Riot House is a YA Romance, with elements of bully, enemies to lovers and dark romance. It is based at an elite boarding school called Wolf Hall. As ever there are a group of Alpha’s who rule the school, with their money, deviance, good looks and their power – these are the Riot House boys.
The story focuses on Wren Jacobi (the Hero) one of the Riot House boys. Seen as cold and calculated, a guy of few words but people know not to mess with him, but the girls want to be with him. As the story progresses Wren’s character is so different from the front he puts on show. He is damaged, intelligent, very calculated, he is bored and wants to find something that holds meaning for him, then he meets Elodie.
Elodie Stillwater is the heroine and a transfer student, raised by an overbearing, controlling army general of a father. Elodie is a lamb thrown amongst the Wolves and has to learn to navigate a school where she doesn’t fit with the crowd. Elodie and Wren are drawn to each other, through their secrets, their hunger for intellect and comfort, and Callie built up their relationship in a wonderful way that highlighted the character progression, especially in Wren as you got to know him more.
There are also some great secondary characters in the book that I am really interested to see more of, especially Carrie and Dash, their chemistry and history fascinated me! I loved how Callie built so much depth into her characters, even the lesser seen ones had a strong personality and presence on the page paired with the multifaceted plot and I was hooked.
The novel started off well but felt a little slow for a time; however when Elodie and Wren’s relationship picked up pace things really started to come together and around the 45% mark I could not put it down! The twists just kept on coming from all angles and the ending was completely unexpected.
Callie constructed a fantastic novel with strong characters an engaging plot with twists and turns I did not see coming, she set the scene for the other books to come in this series, and I am curious to read more.
i just finished Riot House… let me tell you I am in shock…since yesterday, I’m still trying to figure out what to think and how to put my thoughts in order.
First of all, the atmopshere of the whole story is fabulous. It’s thick, dark, suspenseful. The intrigue gripped me.
The book is long, a slow burn. The first 30% built the the plot, and had me wondering. I enjoyed the tension between Elodie and Wren, the intensity of the relationship between the Riot House inhabitants as well as the rivalries and frienships of the students.
After a while, though, I started to question the realism of the situations and the way issues were handled at the Academy, or if there even was an authority. The adults don’t seem to particularly take matters in hand.
As the story between Wren and Elodie progresses, though, I found myself enthralled and touched by their complex personalities.
In the last part of the book, the rhythm accelerates, the intrigue morphes and several major twists sent me reeling. The originality of the story line had me furiously turning the pages…all the while almost frowning when I sensed plot holes…
With Riot House, my reading bubble didn’t burst…but it was close. Nevertheless, I’m definitely curious about Pax and Dash!!!
