Etienne never thought getting his pocket picked could lead to a first date. He knows the second he catches punk boy Brady’s eye that the guy is pure trouble, but Et can’t resist his wicked sense of humor, pretty face, cold hands — and the “piss off” swagger when Brady’s on stage with his band doesn’t hurt, either.
From Rimbaud to Buzzcocks to Malbec to handcuffs, they … handcuffs, they introduce each other to their favorite pleasures, and the chemistry is unstoppable. But Brady disappears in the night, won’t give Etienne a phone number, doesn’t talk about his past; Etienne’s never known someone so hungry for affection but with so many trust issues. Et would give all he has, but he has the feeling Brady needs saving from something before he can take what Et offers.
Then, the “something” shows up: Brady’s dangerous family, all of them more than human — including Brady, who has the ability to supercool matter with the slightest touch. Throw in the family talent for criminal activity, and it’s an explosion waiting to happen.
Et wants to help him escape his past, but if Brady keeps disappearing, he may not get the chance.

It was sweet and adorable. I loved every single character and had so much fun reading Etienne and Brady’s story. I loved how Etienne never gave up on Brady abd did everything he could to help and understand him. I love that they got their HEA. I also felt every emotion along with the characters and the intimacy between them was HOT, SEXY and EXPLOSIVE. I can not wait to see what happens next. Katey Hawthrone well done on another amazing book.
You can pick your friends, pick your pockets and pick your love. Etienne, picks pockets. One adventure, his endeavours lead to a meeting with Brady, who is an absolute mystery. Brady, is enhanced with superpowers and he keeps it close to his heart. Etienne, is interested and intrigued. Is it the mystery, the lack of knowledge of who Brady is? Does Etienne ever pick the wrong pocket? Can Brady keep his powers under wrap? This story is more of a romance than a challenge to powers. Both men are dragging a bit of baggage. Can they set it down long enough to sit and talk to each other? Can Etienne accept the powers? Nice story. Etienne and Brady are absolutely likeable. Nicely done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Riot Boy is the second book in Superpowered Love Series and can be read as a standalone. (M/M Romance)
Etienne and Brady are completely opposite. Brady is a pick pocket and trouble in a lot of ways, also very closed off. Etienne clearly wants to know more about Brady and the secrets he’s hiding. They get together in a way that you normally would come across but still so good. There’s a clear attraction and is nice and steamy.
A bit of suspense mixed in to this great short read. Would definitely recommend.
MM, insta attraction romance. Second in series but can be read as a stand-alone due to totally different characters featured. Easy to read with great characters, lots of steam, some angst and wit and humour with action throughout the story. HEA.
This Universe created by Ms. Hawthorne is simply awesome. In book 2, the author presented us another anecdote in this superpowered world. Brady and Etienne’s story is about acceptance and how love overcomes any obstacle… and of course, how having powers is not the worst or the only one. So good!
Etienne was dragged out to a bar by his sister and her girlfriend. Etienne is getting over a break-up with his ex and has had a very stressful week and his sister wants him to come out, dance and have fun. Even though there are pletty of beautiful men there his eye is caught by a sassy man wearing make-up and a riot gear shirt. Etienne is interested in him all right but his sister distacts him from going after him. Luckily Riot Boy came over to ask him to dance. The two share a hot kiss and then Etienne had to leave. Later he found out that his wallet was gone probably stolen by riot boy. The next day Riot Boy tracks him down to the coffee bar near his work and hands him his wallet back. Riot boy would rather date Etienne than steal from him. Etienne starts to spend a lot of time with Riot boy and learns he is a bass player in a band. Riot Boy is very free spirited and doesn’t even have a phone. No matter what he learns Etienne is falling for Riot Boy.
Brody is Riot Boy’s real name. He enjoys playing in his band and pick-pocketing. He has a big secret that he is keeping. He was born with the ability to control the temperature and freeze things. His people call themselves the awakened and try to keep their abilities a secret. He left home because of all the pressure his family has been putting on him to help them with their criminal plans. Meeting Etienne changes his life. He has finally found a man who will love him even with all his secrets.
Etienne is a sweetheart and Brady is the bad boy! This was a really good, and fun story to read. I thought this one was even better than the first one. I’m looking forward to reading more in the series. This was a really good story, really well written, highly recommend. I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
This is the second book in the series and occurs in the same world, but is completely stands alone. This time, we meet Etienne and Brady. This book is a bit different from the first in the series, as only one of the MCs is superpowered. That’s Brady, who is also a bad-boy, trouble-maker, and has an unhappy family life. His foil is Etienne, a normal (or ‘sleeper’) human, who just wants to help and love Brady. Will he feel the same when he learns Brady’s secrets, and can these two opposites make it work together? Fast-moving and full of heat, this is another quick and enjoyable read.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
The first book in this series had friends to lovers while this one is totally different. Here we have the good guy, Etienne, attracted to the “bad boy”, rocker, Brady. Etienne doesn’t have any superpowers, but Brady and his family sure do. I’m really enjoying the length of this series and the way the author gets us into the story, introduces the characters and keeps things moving. I can dip in and read them in one sitting and get my hit of steam with interesting plot and characters.
This is the second book in the fast paced series! We meet Etienne and Brady! These books are truly standalones- not connected at all! I would love it if these stories went a little deeper but for a short quick read I enjoyed reading them. I read an advanced copy of this book and this is my unbiased review!
I really enjoyed this book.
It was an entertaining addition to an entertaining series.
I can’t wait to read more.
This was such a great story! Etienne and Brady was great together! I adored these boys and their love story! This series is seriously amazing and I’m absolutely loving it! Can’t wait to dive right in to the next one!
Very different to the first book in the series but just as good
This was pretty much as far as you could get from Sam and Hansen. While Equilibrium was sweet and saw two friends finally get together, this was more an opposites attract, hook up to relationship, troubled past kind of story. Etienne is adorable. He’s so sweetly steady and while some might find him boring compared to Brady I think his calmness and caring nature make him perfect against Brady’s wilder more aggressive edge. I like the story here though I do think that maybe we could have had a little more of Brady and Etienne talking and a little less sex. We know they did talk, but it was all off-page and I wish we could have seen that part of their relationship develop. Other than that, this was another interesting take on the world Katey is building!
It takes one look and one lifting of a credit card and Etienne knows he wants more with Brady. But Brady has a mysterious past and present. He has no cell phone, disappears in the night and will not discuss his past. Etienne knows Brady is broken in some way and wants to help and he wants to keep him in his life.
This second book in the Superpowered Love series is completely different from the first one. It is set in the same world. Brady is the one with superpowers while Etienne has none. Brady can freeze things or just make them cold. His background is mysterious and that is for a reason. Your heart will go out to him. He does not want to live the life he was dealt and is trying to leave it behind but with little success. Etienne who is a normal run of the mill young man is so different from Brady as to be an opposite and that is what makes their love succeed. I can’t wait to see what book three brings us.
I read the first 3 books in this series. This one is the second one.
Even though I loved the covers, I liked the premise and the writing there was something missing.
After the second book, I realized that there is “love” in this series but the “superpowered” part of the title is just not there as much as I expected.
The couples in the books are more like normal people falling in love. Some of them have superpowers but they need to be careful and hide because they are being hunted. There is not much action apart from sexy action…
With that said, this doesn’t mean that I won’t read the rest of the series. It is a fast, fun read.
P.s. I cannot find the series with the comic cover anywhere… (frustrated much?)
Thank you to @gayromancereviews for the ARCs
I had definition liked the Riot Boy better than the first book in the series called Equilibrium. The narrative arc was executed much better. The premise was more intriguing to me. I enjoyed the characters a lot more as well.
This is book 2 in the Superpowered Love series. It features Etienne, who works at a bookstore and Brady, who plays bass in a punk band. They meet a the club and hit it off. What Etienne didn’t realize was the Brady has a super power. It was a cute read, told in Etienne’s point of view. This one had more action than the first one. I enjoyed it.
I received a copy of this book for my review
Not much of superpower theme here…most of the story is about romance between two unlikely pair and fairly steamy scenes. The story was enjoyable and characters were interesting enough. But because it is so short, it’s hard to build much of the background and world. Relatively enjoyable…
The Superpowered Love series takes place in a world where there are “sleepers” (normal folks) and “awakened” – people with special powers, either thermal or electrical. The awakened are only known to themselves and fear persecution if found out by everyone else, but they live normal lives among the rest of the world. The books can 100% be read as a standalone.
Brady is a mess- on the run, never committing to anything except his music, with some pretty deep emotional scars. Etienne lives a very quiet life after his breakup with his boyfriend of 3 years. He manages a book store and his idea of the perfect night is a glass of wine and a good book. But the two are drawn to each other, hoping they can give the other what they need.
This is a short, fast paced book about two men hoping to find someone who loves them for who they are. It’s a fun ride that’s well written, with characters you can’t help but like. I wish there was more depth to this book- I would have loved to delve more into Brady’s psyche, but it was still a fun book! 3.5 stars for this one!
