Jack and Alex have chemistry. it sizzles on the page. These two characters have been through the Ringer (pun intended) and now that they have reconnected it is like a wet rag meeting a mud puddle. They click and the chemistry is off the charts! Loved this addition to the Doyles!

I could not put this down!!! Jack Mulvaney is definitely swoon worthy and Alix is sweet, sassy, independent and gorgeous. Jack and Alix are the perfect match and have been since they were teenagers. Not much happened back then but boy oh boy is the chemistry still off the charts. I loved their story so much.

This book is part of the Doyles collection. Alexandra/Alix and Jack knew each other growing up. Jack was an abused child and Alix’s family was there for him when things got really bad at home. Jack joined the military to give himself a much better future than the one he would have had if he stayed in town. Years later a joint tragedy brings Jack back into Alix’s life briefly. An unplanned pregnancy and wanting to do the right thing by Jack kept him firmly out of Alexandra’s arms for years.
Now Jack was back in town trying to set things up for himself before he officially leaves the military. He hopes winning the purse at an MMA fight would contribute to his plans for his future. A minutes inattention puts him face to face with Alix and her medical skills. Once he learns she’s in possible danger all of his protective and buried feelings for her comes flying to the surface.
Alix has always been in love with Jack and now that he’s back she’s trying to do her best to keep things as just friends, but old passions are hard to deny.
This story had all of the elements for this to be a poignant, steamy reconnection. Instead for me the choppy sentences and at times abrupt sentence structure, coupled with many flashbacks, (the author did make them italic so you could tell) but at times their mental musings, would blend with past and present and I would have to reread to figure out what was happening made this a bit of a miss for me. Due to the choppiness of the writing style I could not really connect with the characters. Plus the ex boyfriend causing such annoying drama and the subsequent dismal by the police made this part of the story a bit of an eye roll for me.
Both characters are very likeable which is why I kept it at a three star review instead of 2. What I got from Alix and Jack was a very deep and caring friendship, not a can’t keep my hands off this person passion.
