AMAZING START TO A NEW EXCITING SERIES!
I was privileged to receive this book as an ARC. This is an honest review. I happen to love Shannon McKenna’s writing style and her latest book did not let me down! Her latest hero is a cross between a McCloud brother and Jason Bourne. Noah is the alpha male that you equally love and want to smack him for his overbearing qualities. Caro is his leading lady but she will not be led around by him. This story is full of Shannon’s romantic suspense but she has given the story a paranormal twist. I found the story to be an addictive page turner full of interesting plot twists, unique supporting characters and I am waiting for the next installment in the Obsidian series. I do not want to give away too much of the plot because I feel that would ruin it for the reader. The book is a thrill ride that I thoroughly enjoyed.
4.5 Thrilling Stars!
Right Through Me is the thrilling and sexy first book in Ms. McKenna’s exciting new series, The Obsidian Files. This book is about a group of men and women who were experimented on as children/young adults to create an army of super-soldiers, each maximized to take advantage of their strengths. When the people at Obsidian realized they went too far, they got scared and decided to kill them all. Noah led a rebellion and rescued them all, becoming the unchallenged leader. Now years later Noah Gallagher has become a Biotech tycoon in order to support and protect his chosen family. He forgot what it was like to have fun or do something for himself. When a mysterious dancer performs for him, he loses all his careful control. They are both stunned at the intensity of their instant and deep connection. Caroline Bishop is a talented artist, she notices everything and can visualize so well, it could be real. Because of her gift she was noticed by someone who tried to frame her for murder. Now she is on the run to save her life. She is noticed again, but this time by Noah and his friends. They soon find they just may have the same enemy in common and Noah will protect Caro and his family at all cost. Noah and Caro are both strong, intelligent and stubborn. They challenge each other but comfort each other as well. They have great chemistry and their passion is blazing hot. Ms. McKenna is a genius at creating the most evil characters, the best heart pounding action scenes, and also the hottest love/sex scenes and this book has it all. There are many twists and turns in this fast paced story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The secondary characters are all fascinating making me want to know more about them. This is a wonderful and exhilarating beginning to this new series and I look forward to more!
A wonderful start to a new series.
I love Shannon McKenna’s books and this was no exception! They are always interesting, very detailed without being overly wordy, and they take you into a whole new world instead of just your typical sci fi/paranormal. Can’t wait to read more of this series!
Love this book and this new series by Shannon McKenna. Make sure to read these first two books because number three is coming out soon!

Not so long ago I won an e-book copy of this book in a giveaway. I guess I would have never picked something like this otherwise. I’m not a big fan of books with cyborgs, because they tend to be a bunch of nonsense sex and little story. Luckily, this one is the exception. Due to life, it has taken me ages to finish it; but it’s a really nice book. Much better than expected.
We met Noah, an enhanced soldier that several years ago escaped from the crazy scientists that made him (and several others) a cyborg. His mods give him superior strength, stamina, greater healing factor, weird visual inputs and many other things. A killing machine. Caro is on the run from another cyborg (although she doesn’t know Marc is one), due to her knowledge of a password that would give the evil cyborg total control over other modifed soldiers. Obviously, Noah meets Caro and makes his mission to protect her.
The main story about the origin of the cyborgs is really nice, making the book a fun ride. The big baddies are not defeated in this book, so I guess we will know more about the evil scientists in future books. This one focuses more on the crazy Marc and his attempts to gather an army to proclaim himself king of the world. The few chapters where we geet to experience Marc’s part of the story are among my favourites of the book, even when the character is plain cruel (95% of the time). At first I thought the author wanted us to develop some kind of sympathy for him, but soon enough the opposite is stated. When he starts waking up sleepers, you can only hate the way Marc behaves…
The pace is fluid most of the book, but it hits a bump during the first “date” of Noah and Caro. There are several chapters in a row that eveyrthing that happens is just sex. Nice scenes, but a bit tiring after a while. The fight scenes are good, but with enhanced humans they are a bit messy, fast and the the right amount of crazy. There are some weird thing at the end of the book, when people with melted brains are able to shoot… but I will forgive those.
The romance goes downhill since the first sex encounters. Noah’s protection drive goes a bit far and tends to treat Caro as his possession. Extra points to Caro for using his hormones as weapon against Noah and stealing his car to get far from him. That was fun and it should have been humbling for the cyborg, but I guess the macho male needs much more than that. Caro loses all her points when she finally falls into his game. And the worst part is the end… After just a couple of days they get engaged. I hate that cliché. It’s TOO SOON!!! When are they going to learn that??
I will have to keep reading this saga. I need to know if Luke gets rescued or what. Besides, in this first book there are many nice characters that I bet will have their own books sooner or later. It has been a really nice first step, even though there are some parts that unnerve me.
Good idea but I just didn’t get all that emotionally involved with the main characters. It could have been so much better.
