About to be adopted by retired FBI profiler Pierce Quincy and his partner, Rainie Conner, Sharlah loves one thing best about her new family: They are all experts on monsters.

I was thrilled that Lisa Gardner returned to her Pierce Quincy and Rainie Conner series. This book had my attention from page one. The tracking of a possible spree killer is the main focus of the book. I enjoyed reading how trackers work with police during a criminal investigation. Gardner’s choosing of creating a story about spree killing around Quincy and Connor’s foster daughter Sharlah and her brother gave several storylines to follow that blended well. The question is why after killing their parents years ago has Sharlah’s brother started killing again. I was left with my mouth open at the end.
P.S. I am in love with Luka, the retired police dog.
Great suspense and mystery. It’s all about how far family will go for one another. Sharlah and her brother, Telly, had a terrible childhood. In a drunken, drug-fueled rage, their father stabbed their mother and then came after the children. Telly is a protector and ended up killing their father. Eight years later Sharlah has a good family and Telly finally landed in a good home. His new foster family is trying to prepare him for the future. All of a sudden Telly’s foster parents are dead and so are two other people. Is Telly on a killing spree? Sharlah knows Telly wouldn’t kill those people. If he didn’t, who did? Everything points to Telly. This book is also about secrets. Sharlah and Telly have secrets, but so does Telly’s foster mother. Secrets that got them killed? Maybe.
I believe this is the first novel I’ve read by Ms. Gardner, and, based on this book, it won’t be the last. The story is very fast paced, with most of the action (barring flashbacks) occurring within a 24-hour period. I enjoy books that are paced this way, though oftentimes a quickly moving plot equals poorly developed characters. That is not the case here. Sharlah, Quincy, and Rainie are brought to life without the use of long exposition. Additionally, the author’s use of flashbacks helps to flesh out Telly and his foster parents. The reader finds themselves in a position of having a better understanding than the investigators of the relationship between the troubled teen and the Duvalls, who he stands accused of murdering. Even with that knowledge, however, there are still twists and turns that keep the reader off-balance and continually guessing. Not to brag, but I normally figure out twist endings well in advance of the end of the book, but not this time. I had bits and pieces worked out, but was still surprised at the climax. I was also impressed by the obvious research the author did on the mindset of not only long-term foster children, but of children affected by trauma.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fast-paced books with lots of twists and turns.
I always enjoy Lisa Gardner And her FBI Profiler series was the 1st series I ever read from her. So needless to say I very much enjoyed this book.
Good book. Too bad I figured it out way too early.
Right Behind you is not only a fantastic book, it teaches the sad lesson of what happens to too many of the abused children in our society. This was the story of two who would probably make it, even after a hideous start. Unfortunately, most won’t. If it wasn’t for people like Quincy and Raina, none would.
I usually love Lisa’s book, this one not so much. I could not get into the characters. I expected more of Rainey and Quinton. I finished it. But I kept expecting it to get better. NOT!
takes a while but keep reading and you will enjoy the end
I love Lisa Gardner and anything she writes. ‘Right Behind You’ is no exception.

You won’t be able to put it down!
Another solid thriller read by Lisa Gardner! This one is part of the series with Quincy and Rainie. It’s been eight years since Sharjah May Nash witnessed her older brother bear her drunken father to death to save them both. Sharlah is about to be adopted by Pierce Quincy and Rainie Conner. Quincy gets called in on a double murder at a gas station and as he starts to work on the case he is shocked to find out that the prime suspect is Sharlah’s older brother. Once he saved Sharlah’s life, is he now a murderer? A great fast-paced thriller.
All her books are good plus!
Twisty and compelling and real and the narrators were sooooo very good. Gardner rocks! I loved loved loved this story. (Note: this is Bk7 of Gardner’s FBI Profiler series with Quincy and Rainie–but you do not have to read the others to enjoy this!)
Tells a good captivating story…
Classic!! Keeps you reading!
This story was exceptionally well-written with complex, well-developed characters. While I sympathized with the main character, Sharlah, it really bugged me when she made stupid decisions. Also, the ending was a little unsatisfying. Overall it is a good read though. Lisa Gardner is a very talented author.
Everything she writes is a must read action-packed great characters
Good story with well-developed characters! Didn’t want it to end.
Lisa Gardner never disappoints!
A great read! So enjoy her books
