I found Ridiculous by D L Carter a frivolous but very fun regency romance. It has more sexy-times than normal in such books, and a whole lot of pining girl disguised as a boy (a favorite trope of mine). Also it is really quite funny. I laughed out loud at least a dozen times.
The boy, well man, that our main character Millicent disguises herself …
this book was so well written and so funny I laughed out loud more than I would have ever thought…To disguise yourself so much and so often and get away with it for so long….well…you just have to read it for yourself or see the movie if they would make one…I would definitely go to see it or buy it…I know I wrote about this book …
A great story! In a time where men hold all the power, this is a fun venture into that world through the eyes of a woman pretending to be a man. Throw in the kooky rules of ton etiquette, structured rules of inheritance and the never ending search for a husband for one’s siblings and there is not a dull moment. Well worth the time to read.
This book was very difficult to put down. It was easy to become emotionally involved with the characters and their life situation. The main character is a woman who sacrifices herself for her family by assuming the ID of a male relative when that relative dies. The various difficult situations she/he gets into will draw you into a range of feeling …
I absolutely loved this book and when finished reading bought the second book in the series ( think it stops after this book) but it was so much fun to read, couldn’t put it down, I laughed hard several times! The way the ending was ,was very original , reading the book I thought several times wonder how it will end??
So if you like something …
A totally enjoyable read. Quite funny in situation (Milicent as Mr. North gets an eyeful when the unsuspecting duke undresses directly in front of her) and speech. Mr. North never seems to be at a loss for something witty to say, though often self-deprecating. This keeps her from being a threat to other men. Just by passing herself off as a man …
Very clever book, featuring insight into 1700’s era life in England.
Ridiculous! By D.L. Carter is such a fun read! A Recency romance-ish story, Ridiculous! follows Millicent as she disguises herself as a man so she can provide for her widowed mother and two younger sisters. She comes to the aid of a duke and his sister and the ensuing friendship causes lots of interesting developments. It’s laugh-out-loud funny. I …
Very different kind of book
This book was the most enjoyable I have read in some time. The premise, story line and development of the plots kept me up some nights.
I really enjoyed this book. At first I had a hard time getting around the premise of the main character, Millicent, taking on the persona and character of a man. However, the writer does a good job of reminding the reader of exactly how society and the expectations of women during the Regency period. It’s a great read with interesting and well …
A delightful light-hearted read with a happy ending…perfect for regency romantics!
I’ve read the whole series and I’ve rarely been as entertained by this truly unique and funny read! Highly recommend this!
Nice light read.
I would give 4.5 if I could. The only reason I don’t give 5 starts is because there were some (just a few) mistakes which were quite grave. For example “the capitol” when referring to London, when it should be “the Capital” (capital C and with an “a”). Another mistake was when 2 names were swapped, making the sentence factually wrong.
A shy gal emerges from her shell, a duke gets involved and someone has dual personalities. A witty read with a great unexpected ending.
I really enjoyed this book. It made me smile and laugh at the characters. Very entertaining to read.
Wonderfully ridiculous entertainment!
Humorous and engaging.
I happened upon Ridiculous! accidentally. Fun, fun, fun story. I love the characters, the setting, and the storyline.
