4.25 stars–RIDE WILD is the third instalment in Laura Kaye’s contemporary, adult RAVEN RIDERS MC romance series focusing on the men and women of the Raven Riders MC. This is thirty six year old club member/ widower and father of two Sam “Slider” Evans, and twenty four year old Cora Campbell’s story line. RIDE WILD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Cora was first introduced to the reader in book one RIDE HARD as one of two women, including Cora’s BFF Haven Randall, rescued by the Raven Riders from an abusive and dangerous situation.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Cora and Slider) RIDE WILD follows the building relationship between Raven Riders’ member Sam “Slider” Evans, and Cora Campbell. Two years earlier Slider’s wife died leaving our hero a single father of two young boys, and ultimately Slider began pulling back from the MC lifestyle. Needing a babysitter Slider offers Cora a job but in return gets more than he could have ever imagined. What ensues is the building love and romance between Cora and Slider, and the potential fallout when Cora and the boys become collateral damage in an act of revenge.
Cora Campbell has finally found a home with Slider and his sons, and volunteering at the local animal shelter finds our heroine in the direct line of conflict when she is witness to a serious threat against everything she holds dear. Sam “Slider” Evans has struggled since the death of his wife but he battles between his heart and his mind knowing the truth is different than what he has only revealed. Cora Campbell is a blessing and a curse as our hero begins to fall in love with the woman who has already captured the hearts of his sons.
The relationship between Cora and Slider begins as a business arrangement when Cora begins sitting for Slider’s two sons- five year old Ben and ten year old Sam. Cora falls instantly in love with the two little boys, and hopes the love she feels is welcomed in return. Cora and Slider’s romance straddles the line of forbidden love but our heroine is willing to risk her heart for the family she has always wanted. The $ex scenes are intimate, passionate and intense without the use of sexually graphic, over the top language and text.
Most of the previous story line characters play secondary and supporting roles including Raven Riders president Dare Kenyon and Haven Randall (Ride Hard #1), vice president Maverick Rylan, and interior designer Alexa Harmon (Ride Rough #2), Slider’s sons Ben and Sam, as well as Raven Riders MC members-road captain Phoenix, Meat, Bear, Doc and Caine. Jagger still sits in jail accused on false charges aimed at destroying the Raven Riders MC. The requisite evil has many faces including several familiar faces to the Riders MC. And if you pay attention we get a little visit from the Hard Ink series.
The world building continues to look at the MC lifestyle but unlike some MC story lines Laura Kaye’s Raven Riders series is a little tamer; the men a little less threatening, abrasive or antagonistic; and the women not as aggressive or rough. The violence factor is more pervasive than in the previous story lines but the graphic descriptions are more subdued and manageable. I guess what I am trying to say is there is no ‘in your face’ or ‘over the top’ dark and gritty sexually abusive or violent MC scenarios.
RIDE WILD is a story of family, friendship, brotherhood and love; of one woman who struggles with memories of the past; and one man who battles between his heart and his head. The premise is dramatic and encouraging; the characters are colourful, energetic and compelling; the romance is captivating and seductive. RIDE WILD is a wonderful and entertaining addition to Laura Kaye’s RAVEN RIDERS MC series.
I have loved all the characters in this entire series, and this book just reminds me why.
This story although is about Slider and his kids and of course lovable, laughable Cora we get all the characters we have grown to love and even some from other stories. That is one thing I love about this author she brings us those characters and reminds us why we love her stories.
Finally, they may get to take down once and for all a cop who has been after the bikers for quite awhile.
Many things transpire in this story, but we get a heck of a lot of action, suspense and the romance is over the top. Loved it !!
