When disgraced bull rider Ty Sloane agreed to take a job as foreman at Falcon Ridge Ranch, he didn’t count on having to share his job or his cabin with twenty-one-year-old rising star barrel racer Maybelle Johnson. She tests his patience by day and drives him to distraction by night, but she’s off limits—too young and innocent for the likes of an ex-con like him.As far as Maybelle is concerned, … concerned, Ty Sloane can go jump in a lake. The cocky bull rider is a thorn in her side, both at the ranch and on the road. But he makes her feel things no man has ever made her feel, and as she learns about his past, she can’t help but develop a soft spot for him.
When trouble finds Maybelle on the rodeo circuit, Ty puts it all on the line for the sweet young woman who’s captured his heart, even though it may cost him his freedom.

Ty is an alpha sweetheart! Maybelle is a determined “firecracker.” They are so much fun together – opposites, age gap, stubborn and intense attraction make them irresistible. I love them. They are a romance lover’s dream couple.
I don’t know how Tessa Layne does it. She manages to write incredible stories with characters that are so authenic and likeable. The drama is fresh, interesting and engaging. I am never disappointed is her books!

For me this started off a little dark and I almost didn’t finish this one. My little voice told me to read another chapter or two before I gave up on this book. It is well written and has great characters. This isn’t a quick easy read but I encourage you to give this one a chance. I think you will enjoy it.
Unintentional enemies to lovers….there are no surprises here, but it all leads to the obvious HEA. An easy quick listen.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
This audiobook gives us the first story of the author’s series titled Roughstock Riders. This one belongs to Ty Sloane and Maybelle Johnson.
Once at the top of his bull rider career, Ty ends up in jail after protecting a woman from an abuser.
The moment he leaves jail not knowing what his future would be, he never expected two of his friends to be outside of jail waiting for him and offering a job at Falcon Ridge Ranch. He was told he would be the foreman. That is, until he meets the recently appointed foreman/woman, Maybelle Johnson. A young 21 year old that gives him a run for his money. The option give to them, share the job and the house.
The plot is mostly about the relationship between the feisty Maybelle and Ty’s determination to keep her safe. But there is a ex in her past that is likely to create problems. It’s also a story about redemption and new beginnings.
All in all , it was an ok story to be enjoyed in an afternoon of leisure.
I enjoyed reading this story. Wonderful characters and an interesting storyline.
Great story about believing in someone and the love that results from it.
This is the 1st on a new series from this author and this is a wonderful start for a new series. Ty is a disgraced bull rider who has just spent the last 3-years in prison, and his best friends organise him a job as foreman at the Falcon Ridge Ranch. Maybelle is an up and coming barrel racer, whose uncle has just given her the same job as foreman. Now these two need to navigate around sharing a cabin as well as working together as a team. This is a well written flawless story which has intense chemistry and is a sweet and entertaining read. I look forward to reading more from this talented author and I recommend this for all readers.
This was a quick western romance with a little bit of action. The chemistry between Ty & Maybelle was instant. It was a boom type love.
Maybelle was a strong, independent cowgirl who didn’t need a man to take care of her. Although she was a strong woman she was still naive about some things. Ty had been through a lot in his life from an early age. He was protective, strong & caring & some of those characteristics ended up causing him some trouble later in life.
I really liked how protective he was of Maybelle & how he risked everything to protect/save her. These two were so cute together.
I love a good redemption story and when you throw in an age-gap, you have my full attention! The fact that I’ve enjoyed Tessa Layne’s work in the past was a bonus.
This story did not disappoint in any way. I got a yummy sexy cowboy and a sassy heroine with sparking chemistry and insta-attraction. These two were on fire both in an out of the bedroom LOL That’s not all there is to this story, but it was a really fabulous aspect!
I read this (and a couple more) story last year (2019) when I first got hooked on this author and I can still say I am loving all her words and looking forward to catching up on even more of her work soon!
Tessa did not disappoint in the writing of this story. We that Ty who just got out of prison and was a Rodeo Star. When he gets out of jail his friends offer him a job as a foreman on the ranch. Maybelle is a barrel racer and her uncle offered her the foreman job on the ranch. Do we have some heat coming on when these two find that they were both offered the job. What will They do? Can they compromise? Who will win the fight for foreman or will chemistry get in the way? What will Ty do to protect Maybelle?

Second Chances, Redemption and Cowboys(girls)!!
You will never go wrong reading any story from Prairie.
She’s a barrel racer helping her uncle and trying to “get in the money”. He’s just out of jail, a former rodeo champion and trying to restart his life. They’ve both been assigned to be foreman; which also means the same living quarters.
Sparks fly, and tempers rise. Both are hard-working, excel on horseback, and will melt your heart.
The struggle is real, and these two work their way into your heart before the final page is turned!

Maybelle Johnson is an excellent barrel racer with the chance to make it to National competition. But after some trouble, she needs to make some money for repairs to her trailer. She was hired to work as foreman at her Uncle Teddy’s ranch in Prairie, Kansas.
Ty Sloane the former bull rider is out on parole. With the help of some long time friends, he is headed to Prairie, Kansas to work. Cody and Colt have been trying to talk him in to getting back on the back of a bull.
What he doesn’t expect is the sassy, spitfire of a woman and all her pink belongings when he walks into the foreman cabin on the ranch he is supposed to start working.
After the miscommunication, they are forced to work along side each other.
Maybelle has always been seen as a child in the eyes of her relatives, but she’s not going to let them keep her locked up and babysat like one. She plans to show them her independence as a grown female adult.
Sparks fly between Maybelle and Ty. But she won’t be let him dictate what she can and can not do. However, her strong will might have gotten her into more trouble she can handle.
And it might be too late for Ty to save her.
Ride Hard is the first book in the Roughstock Riders series, but connects to some of Ms. Layne’s previous books. Maybelle and Ty are trying to share the job of foreman at Falcon Ridge Ranch, but they’re fighting against their attraction. They both have secrets from their past, but when Maybelle is threatened, will Ty be able to save her?
This book was the perfect length to grab my attention because it had the perfect amount of character development, relationship building, drama, and danger! I was completely captivated! Maybelle is feisty, so much fun, and I loved her can-do/take-charge attitude. She knew what she wanted and went after it! Ty was trying so hard to be a better man, to be a worthy man, and I loved that while he wanted to chase after his dreams, he tried to stay grounded and realistic. Their chemistry was explosive and I loved their scenes together, be they fighting or making up! My only complaint would be that I wish this book was a little longer to fully develop the danger chasing after Maybelle – I felt like some details were missing, but I still loved this book overall! Maybelle and Ty are a force to be reckoned with and I loved this romance!
An amazing and quick read. Ty and Maybelle both have secrets, they learn to share them and in the end. Sharing those secrets helps them out and their love blooms.

Ty was a famous bull rider who trying to help somebody ends in jail.
Maybelle is a barrel racer who is suffering vandalism from an ex-boyfriend.
I liked how Maybelle is able to see deep into Ty’s heart, and I liked how Ty puts his freedom in jeopardy to take care of Maybelle.
A well-written and well-developed book by Tessa Layne. It is always a pleasure to read her books. Easy to read, enjoyable and tender.
Looking forward to the next one.
I have reviewed a number of books by this author and find that I enjoy and appreciate them most when I am familiar with at least some of the characters in each story. There is a backstory for many of them and from some of the traditions that follow through couples in the town of Prairie. In this particular book, there were characters that I had met before and others that entered the picture before I started reading the series. As a result I felt a bit more lost than I had in Ms. Laynes’ last several books. Even still, I feel that this author improves the longer she writes. This book was short for a novel; I finished it in one night. Despite the fact that the plot proceeded quickly, the characters had depth. I did feel that our hero made a huge reversal a bit too quickly to be believable, but I understand that this story was probably meant to be short but sweet.Layne uses her heroine, Maybelle, as something pure and unblemished and her hero, Ty, as the broken and tarnished man he seems in contrast. We as readers have to decide whether what we see on the surface is all there is to understand. I enjoyed this story and encourage others who have enjoyed Tessa Layne in the past to read this one too.

Ride Hard by Tessa Layne is book number one in the Roughstock Riders series. This is Ty Sloane and Maybelle Johnson’s story.
Ty and Maybelle’s characters are one of a kind. You wouldn’t think these two would fit together but they are ideal for each other. Ty and Maybelle’s journey had some bumps and twists but end up with their HEA.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Ride Hard is book 1 in the new Roughstock Riders series by Tessa Layne and a great way to start this new series! Even catching up with old friends.

What happens next with this May/December couple is about pushing buttons, learning to trust, work as a team, keeping her safe, understanding feelings, staying on the right side of the law and maybe finding their HEA…
