This is a Young Adult Science Fiction Fantasy story that I enjoyed from the very beginning. It has a little bit of everything from drama to mystery. I was so engaged throughout the story that I read it in one sitting. The characters made the story feel realistic. Tati sends her DNA in for testing but the results are something that she never would expect. Who knew the results of one test would start such a chain of events. I highly recommend finding out what happens next.
I’m fascinated by the concept of parallel worlds – aka the multiverse. The idea that the choices we make – consciously or not – can literally alter the world makes sense to me but also triggers my imagination in myriad intriguing ways, particularly when I think about who I might be if different choices were made by or for me. This book explores that idea in a YA context and I think the result was engaging, thought-provoking, and highly entertaining.
Ana, Tati, Tanya, Tatyana all have seizures and all have odd parallels that spring up in their lives – but are they really oddities or something more nefarious? Berla rolls this one out slowly but steadily and she kept my curiosity piqued throughout. The characters were different enough to keep all of their stories feeling fresh and entertaining and I loved the way little pop up details would ring similar – and major ones ring incredibly dissonant – throughout. The revelations and conclusion came a little quicker than I would have liked but that’s not a criticism so much as an observation on how I didn’t want this one to end too quickly. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be looking for more from her!
Thanks to NetGalley for my review copy.
Ricochet by Kathryn Berla.
I have read other books by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed them so I figured I would also like this one. This book is slightly outside of my usual genre but I read the blurb and knew that I wanted to read this book. No being a sci-fi reader, it did take an extra push for me to get through. If you like science fiction, you will enjoy this book.
Ricochet by Kathryn Berla
4 out of 5 stars
Ricochet written by Kathryn Berla is the first book that I have read by this author. This is a science fiction young adult book with some great characters. This book isn’t usually my go to genre, but it seemed interesting. The plot was great if a little confusing in the beginning and the characters are well written and different.
This was an entertaining and very interesting story about a girl who can communicate with herself in parallel universes. I found myself thoroughly enjoying the actual premise of the novel when I wasn’t confused. It was original, and unlike anything I’ve read before.
This story revolves around Tatiana, and she is split into four versions of herself. Each version suffers from something like seizures, which are revealed to be tunnels between the girls so they could (potentially) visit each other.
Even though this was aa confusing story it was also a good story, so I happily recommend this book…

This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I thought the writing was good but the book just did not interest me. It was very confusing. Every other chapter the person was called a different name Ana, Tati, and a few others. I tried to get into the story. I think the author did a good job with putting it together but, it just wasn’t a type of book I would normally read.
This is the first book I have read from this author and now she has a new fan. This is a young adult sci-fi fantasy like no other. When I started this book I couldn’t put it down. These characters suck you in like you are in their world. It only took me a couple of days to devour this amazing story.
Tati is your typical seventeen year old girl. She doesn’t know it but her world is going to turn upside down. Tati sends a dna sample to find out her ancestry but she doesn’t get the answers she was hoping for. She soon discovers that there is not only one of herself. Tati is brought into a life that seems crazy to her. She never thought there was more worlds than just one. Tati has a lot of events that happen to her and she doesn’t know who to turn to for help. Will Tati be able to find out the truth or will it bring too much danger?
5 Star
Ricochet by Kathryn Berla is a book that I found myself a bit confused at first but quickly found myself lost in the pages. Once I started reading I couldn’t stop. It’s told in four points of views and at first I got confused but I straightened myself out There are some twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what happens next. Tati notices weird things happening around her and decides to find out why. What happens when she finds out the truth? What’s her future look like? Find out what happens next in this must read. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.
Ricochet by Kathryn Berla is a young adult sci-fi story. The Characters are very well developed and written and I really enjoyed the story line. The twists and turns kept me on my toes and not wanting to put it down from page 1. While this is one of my favorite Genres, this is a new author for me and I really enjoyed the writing style and story line. I will definitely continue to read this author. I give this book a solid 5 stars.
I’m not so sure where to start with this story. Parallel universes are always an interesting theme. So many ways to go there. In Ricochet, Kathryn Berla, takes us on a journey with four very different girls, but so much alike in many ways. There is a mild, same sex romance in this story that I think opens the doorway to address all the emotions that are on stage in this story. Guilt and shame versus confidence and self-assurance, a life of plenty, a life of poverty, timid versus bold. So many facets of the human nature addressed in this story. Its not a book to just whiz through. It’s a story to think through. I found myself having to back track a time or two just to verify my own thoughts. If you are looking for a good story, that is also mind stimulating this is a book for you.

Four Stars
Ricochet is a YA Sci-Fi by Kathryn Berla. I was amazed by the concept of this story. A DNA test that triggered a story of one girl with four different points of view. This book had me hooked from the very first page. Once I got used to bouncing from one point of view to another, the book just kept me so intrigued I couldn’t put it down. I really enjoyed reading this story and look forward to reading more books by Ms. Berla
Ricochet by Kathryn Berla is an interesting YA read. This book is suitable and can be enjoyed by teens and older. There is a sci-fi feel with science, parallel universes, and multiple characters who are the same person. The author keeps everything understandable and with a good flow. Tati, Ana, Tatyana, and Tanya are all their own person with their own characteristics. Each reacts differently to the same situations. The catch is they must all come together in order to survive. I will not give information on the plot because there is nothing worse than getting the plot and spoilers while reading a review. Just know this is a fun read that I did not want to put down. It is well written and the story is thought out and easy to follow.
Ricochet by Kathryn Berla is a YA science fiction story that centers on Tati, a 17-year-old high school girl who, after taking a DNA test gets the surprise of her life when the results come back. When she begins having seizures and seeing different versions of herself, she is even more confused.
I can’t say that I am a big fan of science fiction but this story had an interesting concept, I mean haven’t we all, at one time or another, thought there may be alternate universes out there? What bothered me and kept me from giving this book 5 stars is the amount of back and forth. It confused me at times and I found myself going back pages to see if I missed something. Other than that, a little more world building and the author would have a solid story that will be enjoyed by many.
Ricochet is a stand-alone read by Kathryn Berla. This is definitely an unusual read but also captivating and interesting as well. Kathryn Berla has always had a unique writing style and this book is not different. First of all, it was a little difficult to keep up the with the story as we were given various versions of our main characters through various timelines, that continually changed throughout the read, but once you fully committed to the book and took the time to really digest the read it was quite easy to follow. This book definitely has a lot going on and it weaves mystery, drama, action & adventure altogether while leaving you wanting more. I love Kathryn Berla’s writing and character development is makes the characters and storyline seem even more real and helps the characters jump off the page! I’m so glad I picked up this read, it’s one that shouldn’t be missed.
Ricochet by Kathryn Berla
My rating 4 out of 4 stars
This sci fi fantasy is an interesting and confusing read. I did have fun with this book but with the stories all being from four different point of views, I did get lost faster. The mystery that surrounds Tati and her ancestry search opens up a confusing, exciting, mysterious and fun world. I really enjoyed how thought out the characters were and how they fit into the storyline. This story is nothing like I have read before so that, elevated this book so much more for me. The amount of detail, and thought that went into this book and the different stories really shows, and really impressed me. I would highly recommend this read!
Ricochet by Kathryn Berla is a YA sci fi that has an interesting premise but it was slow to get into. The story was a little hard to keep track of because it jumped between past and present but also between characters. I never really settled into the story and felt that even though interesting it could have been more. The characters didn’t really grab me I felt like they need more substance as did the worlds in which they lived.
Whilst it didn’t meet my expectations doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it a go. I am not a great lover of sci fi unless it is done really well and for me Ricochet didn’t stand up.
I give Ricochet by Kathryn Berla, 5 stars.
I didn’t know what to expect with this book. It was a little confusing at first with the four characters with similar names, but I quickly caught on where it was going and was pleasantly surprised. The premise of the book is like nothing I have ever read, having 4 different versions of the same character in parallel universes. But each one is unique in their own way, but there are similarities too. I really enjoyed comparing them and also seeing who has what in common. The author essentially made 4 main characters, each with their own world and secondary characters. In my opinion, she did a wonderful job of this, it could have easily gotten confusing. I really would love to learn more of each of the versions, they were great. And it was hard to pick a favorite, I liked them all for different reasons.
But there’s more than just the girls. In their own way, each one discovers more about their family. Some knew parts, others knew nothing. Their search leads them into trouble though. This is a YA scifi book, but it’s so much more too. It’s about discovering who you are and what you will do, the importance of loved ones, and finding the perfect balance. There is love, suspense, action, and some parts that will make you quite sad.
Overall, this is a well-rounded book and I highly recommend it.

5-stars
Ricochet by Kathryn Berla was an interesting and exciting read. I was thrown for a loop with the introduction of each version of Tatiana and her life in the various time lines. It was fascinating and everything came together as the story progressed. This story was definitely well thought out and organized. It ended up being easy keeping up with the differing lines. I loved it. The author also did an excellent job with the development of each version of Tatiana. They were all the same but at the same time different. This was a fun read. I highly recommend it!
RICOCHET is an intriguing premise and was an interesting story to read. I don’t want to give anything away so I’m going to be super vague and factual in this review:
Fact: Told in multi POV
Fact: Told in past and present time
Fact: Told in different geographic areas
Fact: Each character is extremely diverse in personality while similar in name
Fact: Told in a visually appealing way once I was able to understand the cadence of the story
Fact: I have always enjoyed this author’s storytelling
Fact: I recommend this book
So first let me start with the cover of this book… gorgeous. When I saw it was penned by Kathryn Berla I knew it was something I had to ge my hands on, having read some of her other novels and enjoying them. I was skeptical only because it looked a bit on the sci-fi side of things and I simply prefer to avoid them because I just don’t comprehend and get confused with these types of books. So I went it cautious of this. I will say I enjoyed the idea, and I can see where it would shine with some fine tuning or even just some splitting up. The idea is a girl named Tatiana is able to see herself in alternate or parallel universes while she seizes. When she figured this out she begins to explore the other girls. Now here is where I got so stinking lost. We get three other girls in three other universes with the same supporting characters. Trying to sift through all of that information and keep it all straight was just too much. I could see where this book could become a successful series. Each girl getting her own book would cut down the confusion I am sure. Just an idea but this book unfortunately for this reason fell short for me. I will be interested to see what we will get next and if Ms. Berla ever re-configures this story line.
Ricochet by Kathryn Berla. This is an awesome young adult, science fiction story. Its the story of 17 year old Tati who doesn’t know her whole world is about to be turned upside down. It begins with her sending off a saliva sample to Ancestry.com and when the sample comes back inconclusive she’s left wondering what is wrong with her. She begins to have convulsions and during these convulsions she sees a tunnel beckoning her and in these tunnels she finds another version of herself. She actually finds there are 3 other versions of herself, Ana who is quiet and shy, Tatyana who is always getting her way and Tanya who is always running from everything and everyone. When these worlds collide the 4 of them have to work together so that they can all survive. This is a fast paced, action story and you have to pay attention because it goes back and forth between characters. I really enjoyed it and I think you will too!
