Just WOW!! We’re building to the climax here and it’s moving as quickly as a snowball down a mountain. ‘Richard’ is the fifth book in Kathi S. Barton’s “Blood Brotherhood” series and this one is epic! Long before there was a blood brotherhood, events were aligning for things to come within this family of vampires. The night of the fire at the house of Malcolm, Richard’s brother, a timber had gone through the heart of his wife, killing her instantly. In barely the nick of time Richard, who had been staying there was able to save his brother from his own death, although that was short-lived. Malcolm could not bear living without his mate and met the sun, causing Richard such unimaginable grief. That’s when the Queen of Fairies came to visit Richard and marking him with magic and telling him he would see many deaths and much tragedy before a woman would come to him but that she would not only be his mate but would heal him and they would be vital to what was needed at the time. Throughout her entire life, Ryiah has been lied to about many things, including the order of birth between her and her twin sister Lucia. Where Ryiah is a loving, giving, tender person, Lucia is vile, greedy, and power-hungry. Lucia has subjugated Ryiah to unimaginable hell throughout her entire life just to make sure Ryiah would not steal her magic back but the army of faeries have been able to manipulate enough events and thoughts to somewhat protect Ryiah and put her on the path to finding her mate so she can come into herself and her magic. Benton, in the meantime, is quite literally falling apart a piece at the time as the evil continues to rot his body. He’s also become so delusional he still talks to Ward, Dolin, and Mary as if they were still living. Keeping them as his constant companions. Still, the brotherhood cannot find a way to destroy him as yet but continue to whittle away at him every chance they get. There are new twists and turns within the plot with new magic, markings, and new interpretations of the glyphs and old writings upon the brotherhood that can be read. Rick and Ryiah becoming mates are hot as blue blazes and it was thrilling to see these two come together since both have paid a high price to find such love and happiness. There’s just one more book. Fate has set the stage, the pieces are lined up, and as Remy and Richard have discussed, once the twelfth person arrives and all their magic and strengths are in place, we have the final outcome. It’s exciting and sad at the same time. I can’t wait.
Richard is probably my favorite of the Blood Brotherhood Series that I have read so far!
