As a society, we are in the throes of a collective panic attack. Anxiety and loneliness are on the rise, with 77% of our population experiencing physical symptoms of stress on a regular basis. We feel pressure chasing careers, security, and keeping up. We worry about health, politics, and many other complexities we can’t control. Eventually we find our minds spinning, trying to cope or manage a low hum of anxiety, unlike ever before.
But it doesn’t have to stay this way.
Rebekah draws from her own battle with depression and anxiety and shares a pathway to establish four life-giving rhythms that quiet inner chaos and make room for a flourishing life. By taking time to rest, restore, connect, and create, you will discover how to:
- Take charge of your emotional health and inspire your loved ones to do the same

Rebekah is a natural encourager. With gentle truth she walks the reader through the different rhythms of life. She encourages us to pause and ponder: where am I? Where do I want to be? She then shows us the path to get there. I found myself challenged to be willing to change, and to be brave enough to take the first steps. Sometimes you need a bit of a push to move out of your comfort zone. Rebekah does so with grace and love.
Very inspirational definitely recommend. The book goes over things we should be doing: play, keep the Sabbath Friday dark to Saturday dark, let go of control, eat smart the way the creator intended, ward off panic attacks with Christ’s help, walk outdoors in the fresh air when possible, regain control of fear, organize and declutter, live intentionally with friends that God helps you pick, lead with vulnerability, Have hospitality, we all need human touch, couples need to work together and flourish, men need respect and women need love, listen to each other. Never give the devil a foothold. Apologize time is short, work with your hands, make memories. There are many other things in the book you need to read it.
Rebekah Lyons has always been one of my favorite inspirational speakers and she is my favorite to read. Her words flow freely and it feels as if she is in the room talking with you.
“Rhythems of Renewal” is a book that everyone needs to read. Just in the first pages I knew this came to me at the right time. “We don’t have to earn rest, we run fueled by the posture of rest.” The Lord is using Rebekah to remind us of these practices we need in our lives so we can live a full life with Him and others.
Everybody needs these reminders, the Lord loves us, He wants to be with us, He wants us to take care of ourselves and this book is the way to start. It is time to Renew our souls, our Rhythems and find Rest in the Lord. Rebekah reaches into our hearts and helps us get there
I just finished the book and I can’t say enough good things about it! Rebekah shares her experience with anxiety and panic attacks and how four critical life rhythms helped her find hope and healing. The stories are so relatable, and every chapter contains practical and realistic ideas you can put into practice right away. Each chapter also shares the science behind why each of the practices are some important and helpful.
As I read Rhythms of Renewal I found myself laughing, crying, and nodding in agreement SO many times! Rebekah is a beautiful storyteller and her words were are truthful salve to my soul at a time when it was very tender. It has encouraged me to take the time to really rest, restore, connect, and create.
If you are looking for a book to guide you as you deal with anxiety or the day to day stress of life, look no further. This will appeal to men and women, Christians and those seeking something more than what this world has to offer, high schoolers and beyond. I loved this book so much I already have it on my Christmas list to purchase for my mom, my sister, and several of my friends!
Rhythms of Renewal is written by Rebekah Lyons. This book is broken into four main rhythms of life- Rest, Restore, Connect, Create. Under these rhythms are practical ways to carry out these rhythms in our lives thus leading to a more balanced life. These are ways that can help decrease our stress and anxieties through evaluating our relationship with God and our daily routines leading to a more abundant and joyful life. These rhythms can also help us grow in our relationship with God and others through self-examination and reflection on our habits and daily routine. This is not an instant fix to our circumstances and struggles but will take being intentional and honest with ourselves.
Rebekah says in her book, “However, these rhythms do take practice. Practical acts like fasting from media (Rest), exercising (Restore), sharing a laugh (Connect), or recovering an old talent (Create) can help us break the anxiety-inducing cycles of the world around us and bring balance to our otherwise hectic lives. They can help us cultivate the spiritual and mental space needed to allow God to bring us through complacency and fear into freedom.” She also states in her chapter on Rest that “We are restless when we rest less.”
Rebekah’s personal experiences are interwoven throughout the book. In these stories Rebekah is real, honest, and vulnerable about her life and experiences. She tells stories about her journey with anxiety and panic attacks and balancing a life of speaking, writing, motherhood, and family.
Rebekah includes reflection questions at the end of each Chapter. These questions are helpful in examining and evaluating the idea presented in each chapter and how these can help give you a more balanced, fulfilled life. Rebekah gives space in the book to answer the questions.
Scripture is present in the book but in most cases the reference is in footnotes at the end of the book or it maybe paraphrased. I did not care for this style of presenting the Scripture as I like the reference readily available in the text. I also was expecting more Scripture throughout the chapters and less of the personal experiences.
The font used is easily readable and some chapters are broken down by sections with subtitles. Some of the ideas in the book will be easily applied to my life but others will be challenging or may not fit into my lifestyle (at least not at this time). I also liked the layout of the chapters. Rebekah includes an introduction to the rhythm before starting the chapters under that particular rhythm. I did feel a little overwhelmed by all the practical ways to implement these rhythms in your life to have more balance, joy, and decrease stress and anxiety. I will just have to take it slow and implement one or two things to start with and later add more. Some ways are obvious such as getting sleep (a better quality and length) or eating better. All of the ideas included under each rhythm may not be for everyone or fit your lifestyle currently but there are some you can implement currently to help gain more balance in your day, week, and months. I recommend this book for readers looking for practical ideas to implement in their lives to have a less stressed, healthier, and happier life.
I received an advanced copy of this book for my honest review. All opinions and ideas expressed in this review are my own.
