My name is Dyliana… Dylan for short. I’m an orphan, homeless, and the last hope for the world. My twin brother and I were forced to join the Rhodi to avoid starvation. An ancient sect of assassins with magical powers, the Rhodi are the only ones who can stop the evil possessing the nation, and they’re looking to me to save it. Under the direction of my mentor, I struggle to become the warrior I … of my mentor, I struggle to become the warrior I was meant to be, while hiding the growing scars on my wrists. But a huntress is hiding in the shadows, and if I don’t stop her, she’ll take over this realm– and destroy anyone standing in her way.
This is an Asian-inspired young adult fantasy. Anime-lovers will enjoy this series.
Trigger warning: this series contains themes of self-injury, depression, and suicide.

After losing their parents Dyliana “Dylan” Fairsson and her twin brother Devin in an accident they find themselves homeless and getting by with any means afforded to them. Until the day they are caught by a couple of Rhodi, who are also twins, Talidin and his sister Tavana. After some consideration Talidin and Tavana decide that Dylan and Devin are worth saving and take them in so they can train them to be Rhodi like them.
All their lives Dylan and Devin’s parents have kept them on the road and in hiding. Their parents never told them why or who they were running from or why it was so important for them to stay hidden. They never had friends growing up because they never stayed in one place long enough.
Devin loves his new life with all his new friends and gives it everything he has. He wants nothing more than to please his masters and to do that he must excel in his training and in school. Dylan on the other hand is a different story. While she is very grateful to Talidin and Tavana for taking them in and giving them a place to lay their heads at night and food in their belly’s she is not giving her training or schooling her all.
Dylan has a lot of stuff going on in her head. She blames herself for the accident that they were in that killed her parents. Dylan just doesn’t care about life or anything else at the moment. She has no room in her heart and head for all the sadness and hurt that is filling it up. Until she can release some of the guilt and pain in her heart and forgive her self then there will be no room for anything else. Besides all the suffering that Dylan is going through she has to worry about the Hunter’s Guild finding them.
I have really and truly loved reading Dylan’s story and following along with her on her journeys. I can relate to Dylan on certain levels and sort of know what she is going through and how she feels. I love that Dylan has so many people that care about her that will help her get through it all. She has friends and a new family that cares about her and will do anything to keep her safe. Rhodi’s Light has been an amazing journey and has taken us down so many different roads with lots of twist and turns that will keep you hanging on for more. And now I can’t wait to start the next book Rhodi’s Rising to see where Dylan, Devin, Talidin and Tavana take us on next. I hope to see you there.
Rhodi’s Light immediately captured me. It’s a YA dystopia with a lot of fantasy. There’s action, loss, and love. It was a one of a kind adventure, and I couldn’t stop reading.
So what is a rhodi? They are protectors of peace. Almost like jedi knights… but no lightsabers and no Force. Each rhodi has a special power unique to their own. Unfortunately, there are only a handful of rhodi’s left in the world because of a war.
Dylan and Devin are twins. They lose their parents in a tragic accident and have no where to go. Rhodis take them in, and Dylan and Devin gain a new family. As young rhodis, they discover their new powers and help their masters in the fight against evil.
This fantasy is so creative, I can’t stop thinking about all the unique characters. It’s filled with super powers, from rapid speed to crazy transformations. A brilliant beginning to an entrancing series. I can’t wait to read book 2!
