Fleeing from the altar three times brands Flint McKay as “a serial proposer.” He swears each proposal is genuine and real. Yet, when it comes time to tie the knot, his heart isn’t in it. What drives him away from marriage? He has no clue. No, the answer doesn’t lie with Cassandra Wells, star of stage and screen. Or at least that’s what Flint tells himself.
After sixteen years setting records at … records at the box office, winning Tony Awards, and rising like the brightest star in the sky, stardom no longer appeals to Cassandra Wells. At 32, she wants to trade in her greasepaint for a new life. The first step is escaping the people controlling her. This book was absolutely fantastic and a must read!!! When you have one summer together can it end up being real love? Cassandra Wells was as Broadway star and movie star for 16 years and engaged, but when someone comes back from her past and needs her help will she do the right thing? Flint McCay has always loved Cassie but when she ends up and disappears and becomes a star he still cant get on with his life, but he visits her about Grams store will she do the right thing or will he finally let his heart go?this book was absolutely fantastic and you will get sucked in and it absolutely fall in love with it.
I adore this series. The author takes us to a quaint town and introduces us to relatable characters with great thought-provoking stories. Flint and Cassie met when she would visit her grandmother during the summer and young love blossomed. No spoilers here, but you will love their story, the town, and the people who live there. I am anxiously waiting for Book 7. I received this as an ARC and voluntarily give my review.
From start to finish this book didn’t disappoint! The characters had amazing chemistry. The emotions were high in this book and I couldn’t put it down. I read it in one day!
I was so glad to be back in Pine Grove as I just love the place, I really liked how Flint grew up there and Cassie spent her summers there which is how they got to know each other. Seeing their memories and understanding why they have the connection they do was sweet, then we also have the here and now where different parts of her past are making appearances and decisions in pretty much every part of her life need to be made along with flint struggle with how he feels about her. There are some parts I really connected with as I am also adopted and got a lot more emotionally invested in the decisions Cassie was trying to make, but as usually there were some great laughs, tender moments and good times to make this a great read!
I thought that there was a lot to like about this book. I loved the small town charm, found the overall plot of the book appealing, enjoy the tropes featured (second chance/friends to lovers) and thought that the writing was very well done. All that being said, I struggled with this book and I felt that this was due to the fact that I just did not like either of the lead characters. Initially, in the blurb I thought that Flint sounded fun and maybe kind of clueless. However, as I was reading my feelings changed so much and I began to think he was just stubborn and selfish with a extra large side helping of lovesick fool. I refuse to give spoilers but I thought that he committed the same error one two many times to just get a free pass and personally I found his attitude about the whole situation really appalling. Now as for Cassie. Honestly, I’m not sure where to start. There is an old saying about always having one foot out the door and I thought that fit her to a t. She seemed to want to use Flint for everything and in anyway she could but I never truly felt she was really in love with him. It seemed more to me that he could give her what she wanted, so OK, I’ll be with this guy. Did they have some chemistry and make some heat together? Sometimes but I just couldn’t stop myself from thinking that if something better came along she’d be gone in a heartbeat and that if he got a chance to spend enough time with her and without the fear of her leaving him again, that he might actually realize that she wasn’t that great. I am freely posting a candid review.
