The story REWIND by Rowan Shaw is a wonderful M/M romance book that I loved reading. It is a story that will hook you in from the beginning and I didn’t want to put down until I had finished the last page. It is a romantic book that had my emotions going up and down the entire time I was reading it. I enjoyed that the story was set in France. It also has two main characters that I grew to care about with each chapter that I read. I loved reading about Enzo Chevalier and Florian Beaudry. You can’t help but want them to find happiness. The story has both heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. I couldn’t help but find myself angry and upset with the actions taken by some of the characters. Other characters that are introduced are protective and care about Enzo and Florian. This is a book that has some steamy scenes that make the temperature in the room rise. Are Enzo and Florian getting a second chance? This is a story that I would highly recommend reading.
This book surprise me because besides the love story between Enzo and Florian that not only is romantic and delightful and speaks about second chances and lost loves, also address the issue of discrimination in a really strong way, involving the topics of sexual preferences and identity, integration of people with different abilities and the difficulties in relationships from these perspectives. Also the book made a clever comparison between being deaf and being gay in terms of integration, brilliant!!!
This is my first time reading this author, and I can say that they have done a wonderful job on shining the light on the bigoted attitude towards bisexual people within LGBTIQ community as well as out of it. Told from dual POV, this story is about two young men who find each other despite the tragic accident that tore them apart years ago. It’s light-hearted, slightly angsty, funny and steamy read about second chances, having courage to come out and love oneself no matter what.
Florian is at crossroads. After walking in on his best friend in bed with his girlfriend, he starts questioning his decisions and his judgement. A chance meeting with a boy who was his first love makes him believe that he has a second chance at his happy ever after. Only Enzo is not a boy anymore but a man with his own pain that needs time to heal.
Enzo has been dealt a hard blow in life. But he got back up and made his dreams come true except for that someone special to love him. Since his break up with a no good cheating boyfriend that he can’t get over still, he feels adrift. But what he does not expect while out with his best friend is to run into one boy he never forgot, one boy who left him when he needed him the most. But past lies can not be hidden forever, and what he discovers rocks him to his core. Even though he lost his hearing and Florian, Florian didn’t escape unscathed either.
After both young men find out the truth, they can not deny the feelings that never went away. So they both decide to explore what can be between them. It was heart-warming to see how nice and understanding Florian was. I really liked Enzo’s strength to stand up for himself at the crucial moment. And despite minor tribulations, both men soon saw that they couldn’t imagine living without each other.
It was sweet, romantic and s*exy read. What would have made it great for me personally, would have been more exposure to the deaf community because Enzo was pretty much around hearing people more than non-hearing. I wished to see him immersed more into it. Another sore point for me was the feeling that all the nasty characters got away scot-free after everything that happened to both Enzo and Florian. I feel like there was no closure on this point either for the guys or for me. But despite all that, I enjoyed their refreshing banter, French sights and all the side characters that added to the book’s loveliness. I recommend it. Copy provided for honest and unbiased review
Rewind
By Rowan Shaw
This is I am pretty sure my first M/M romance book, it is also the debut novel by Rowan Shaw and is also my first book by this author. Since its my first M/M romance I was not sure what to expect from the book. But I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the story content and the writing style of the author. This is the story of Florian and Enzo; both of these men are wanting to have a second chance of being in love. Both these men have been treated in the worst way and when you read their story, I am pretty sure you will be heart broken for them, Read the book and follow their journey to finding that second chance at love, it is truly beautiful.
Rewind by Rowan Shaw was a good 4 star read and book 1 in the Rewind series.
This is a M/M read.
Florian walks in on a shocking scene, his GF in bed with his best friend. She appears to have no remorse whatsoever and blames him for her actions because of his bisexuality. I instantly had a dislike for this woman. I question why he stayed with her as long as he did.
Enzo who is deaf also went through an abusive relationship and was trying to recover from it. When Enzo and Florian reconnect after eight years you can feel the love between them. They were perfect for each other.
As we move forward, the story goes from past to present and we start to get some answers as to why Florian went away and Enzo has some deep scars he’s trying to recover from.
I will warn that there is some emotional abuse that was really sad and hard to read at times. The secondary characters were interesting to say the least, most of them were disappointing to me in the attitudes and comments that would come from them. I have several friends who are part of the LGBT community so this was a hard book for me to read at times. I was so angry and wanted to wring some necks at how stupid and mean people were being. This was a great read but had my emotions all over the place. If you are an overly sensitive person, some of the abuse/comments in the book may be triggers for you. What’s even more sad is that some of these things are an everyday thing for some people. Overall the author has done a great job with her writing. This was my first read from this author, I look forward to reading more from her.

Rewind by Rowan Shaw is hands down one of the best M/M stories I have read in awhile. I simply couldn’t put it down once I started reading. At times my emotions were up and down so much I felt like I was on a rollercoaster ride. There was times I was absolutely heart broken. Enzo and Florian are characters I fell in love with them both . Can these two get there second chance? I highly recommend reading this book.i cant wait to read more from this Author.
Rewind is a brilliantly captivating and engaging second chance romance read. This is my first read from this author and Rowan Shaw definitely has not disappointed me in the slightest. The characters that have been created for this read were real, true to the story, relatable and connectable. It really made you believe you were immersed in the story and feel as though you were part of it.
This isn’t a genre I would normally read, but I’m glad I picked it up and gave it the chance it rightly deserved. It was well written flowed effortlessly through chapter to chapter. I can’t wait to see what else this author brings.
Rewind by Rowan Shaw is a contemporary bisexual romance story. This is my first book by Rowan Shaw and I enjoyed the whole book. I did read it all in one sitting. The characters, Enzo and Florian became part of my book family. Enzo had so much taken away from him. He was lied to, cheated on, and an accident that took his hearing away. My heart hurt for him. When he saw Florian the friendship came back. There are some things that needs to be mended and hopefully Enzo and Florian can move on to allow one another love again. Will there be a second chance in Enzo and Florian life?
REWIND
by Rowan Shaw
Wow I completely and thoroughly loved this book. Before reading this I had no idea how many different ways people can be prejudice and from so many different people in ones life. This book was very eye opening. Reading about Enzo and Florian’s experiences and their up and down relationship kept me captivated so much so that I couldn’t put this book down. This is the first book I have read by this author and I’m ecstatic that I decided to read it because it is truly an amazing story. The author did an exceptional job keeping the story flowing nicely and creating great characters. I highly recommend this book. I can’t wait to read the next book
This is the first book I have read from this author and now she has a new fan. I have never read an m/m book before and I’m glad I did. I fell in love with these men right from the beginning. This is the first book of the Rewind Deut. I could not put this book down for anything. It only took me a couple of hours to devour this amazing book.
Enzo’s life changed the day he lost his hearing. He had to start his life all over. Enzo has to fight for everything that he wants and needs. He doesn’t let anyone or anything tear him down except the man that broke his heart long ago. Enzo now has a new life and man that doesn’t treat him right. He is in complete shock when he runs into Florian. Enzo feels that chemistry from all those years ago. Florian has a great business. He has the best life but things start to crash down around him. Florian is also shocked when he sees Enzo but their history is not good. Deep down Florian feels something for Enzo but is it too late?
I absolutely loved this book. The storyline has it all romance, suspense, and forgiveness. You can’t help but to fall in love with these characters. Enzo is a good man that has some difficult times in his life. He has walls up that is from his past. Florian is very handsome with a good head on his shoulders. He knows what he wants but is it right for him. These characters have some steamy scenes that might not be for some readers. This talented author brought up some strong issues but she wrote them in a very tasteful manner. I can’t wait to see what is next for these unforgettable characters.
I really enjoyed this story. Its a heartwarming tale about love between to guys and all the trouble and horrible attitudes they have to face just for falling for someone of the same sex.
Florian and Enzo were lovers in high school but because of the attitudes of their family and peers they kept their relationship secret until an attack on Enzo changed both their lives forever.
Years passed and they meet again in a bar and both find out that the past was what neither of them believed it to be.
After all this time their love was still strong and and they were stronger to face anything that was thrown at them because of their sexuality.
I must fully admit I don’t usually read m/m novels but I’m so glad I read this one it was a beautiful story. I’m a sucker for a second chance romance especially after a tragedy that originally pulled them apart but seeing the story unravel was magical. I was glued to this story I didn’t move for 2 hours I had to carry in reading til the very end I needed to know the outcome and I was eager to keep turning the pages I was just lost in their world!
Rewind is the first book in the Rewind series. Thankfully it does not end in a cliffhanger.
This book had me sad, angry, and happy. The characters go through many challenges as the story is woven, and you feel it all. I appreciated the clear definition between the chapters that are set in the past and the ones set in the present. Some books don’t make those shifts clear so I’m really glad the author took the time to differentiate them so well.
This is the second book I’ve read in the past month that has had a person from the Deaf community as a main character. I didn’t know how much I needed to understand the struggles they go through until I ran across these kinds of books. It has been an eye-opening experience for sure. I am grateful there are authors out there bringing these kinds of experiences to readers’ awareness.
I enjoyed Enzo and Florian’s story so much! I’m really excited that Raphael’s story is in the next book because his character is also intriguing. You just know it’s going to be good.
Rewind (Rewind #1)
By Rowan Shaw
4 stars
Rewind was a really interesting read. It had a really lovely storyline to it, I really liked the characters and I think the author explored something different with them also which I really enjoyed. It was nice to read about different characters and their lifestyles. I can’t say that I connected with any of the characters in particular but I certainly liked reading about them. I’m not usually a fan of m/m stories but Florian and Enzo were really nice, genuine characters to read about – I definitely felt for Florian during those first few chapters told from his POV. I really liked Enzo and it was great that the author did explore something different for his character it made him seem so much more real. I think he was my favourite character in the story, there was just something about him – I really admired the strength he had to overcome what happened to him.
As the author’s debut novel I was really impressed and I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series!
I loved this….absolutely loved it. I don’t read M/M romances too often but this one intrigued me so I gave it a go. This is so much more than a romance between two people. It actually made me *feel* what it was like to be them….against every prejudice you can Imagine. From outting themselves and just showing affection in public to rejection from family and friends to public ridicule. They had a long road to journey down to get to their happy ending.
Enzo is amazing! So strong and smart! I loved everything about him. He has a heart of gold! His struggle to overcome made him who he became to be. Florian is a different sort of strong. What he had to overcome is not the same as Enzo but caused by the same “accident”. I almost feel he got the worst end of the deal. When they are together it’s easy to see how happy they both become by their smiles and gestures.
This is my first book by this author. I loved the writing..it is so easy to read and I finished this In one day. I couldn’t put it down. It is filled with suspense, charm and many lovely moments. My only complaint would be Enzos family. I felt that was left open ended. But really it’s a small issue in the grand scheme of things. The characters were great! I think I would love a Patrick in my life. He seemed a “no holds barred” kind of guy. I see the next book is out so I will be diving into that next.
This is, by far, the best bi representation I have ever read. And I have read A LOT of them. Rowan did an amazing job portraying the internal struggles of a bisexual person, as well as hardships every person with disabilities face every single day.
Enzo is a sweet and kind man. It is difficult being gay and disabled, but he doesn’t let that stop him from living his life the way he wants. In moments he is maybe too kind and forgiving, but people like that do exist. And for everyone complaining about his behavior toward his ex boyfriend, you obviously never have been in an abusive relationship or witnessed one.
I loved Florian. He lives in constant war with himself. He defies bisexual stereotypes. Rowan had painted every emotion a bi person goes through. As for his relationship with his girlfriend, again, look around you and see what a manipulator does to their victim. All of that is so realistically portrayed.
This is a true own voice story.
I highly recommend this book, and if I could, I would give it 10 stars. I might be biased, but bi rep without erasure and stereotyping is extremely important to me. And I got that with this book.
I hope that the literary world embraces change faster than the human world and soon we will no longer have to categorize ANY story as L B G T or Q. Love is love is love is love (and hate is hate). If everyone could just embrace others as being flesh and blood, wouldn’t the world be better for it?
Anyway…
I love when a story has a soundtrack that accompanies it. REWIND has a couple of “playlists” of sorts. You can click a link to learn how to pronounce character’s names (always handy). You can click a link to find the recipes that are featured in the story. There are a few others also – worth the time to explore.
On to my review of the actual story. This is a book that is told in dual points of view flashing between past and present. It’s a tale that has drama and tragedy and second chances and love. This is a story that I wanted to throw my Kindle against the wall a few times because I was super frustrated with certain aspects. Overall, this is a story I enjoyed and I intend to continue the series.
“Why did people always think that me being queer meant they could ask all kinds of weird shit about my sex life?” WHY INDEED!!
The story flowed pretty well, the characters are developed and the overall story seemed to follow plot points. There is a super strong undertone of homo-phobia and lack of compassion in the story and it made me feel bad for the characters. Their choices in friends and dates leave much to be desired. (Did I mention I wanted to hurl my Kindle a few times?).
I look forward to reading book 2 in the series.
Rewind is a wonderfully written M/M contemporary romance by Rowan Shaw. M/M is a relatively new genre for me and this is by far the best book in this genre that I have read so far.
Enzo and Florian were sweethearts as young boys until tragedy struck and they were forced apart both believing that the other didn’t want to see them anymore.
Years later they both meet by chance in a club and the sexual attraction is still there but both have recently come out of long term relationships that they haven’t got over and starting a new relationship is the last thing on both their minds. BUT what they had before was special and should they risk their fragile heart and make a go of their obvious attraction and feeling for one another?
I adored both Enzo and Florian, they both have their flaws but deep down both are very sweet, amazing guys. One thing I really loved about this book is that Enzo is profoundly deaf. As a person with a hearing impairment, I loved that the author chose to have a profoundly deaf character in a main role. A bold move that not many authors would be willing to take.
After finishing this book I discovered that this was the author’s debut novel. All I can say is that if this is a debut novel then I can’t wait to see what comes next.
REWIND By Rowan Shaw. This story had me completely hooked from beginning to end. Enzo and Florian Have such an emotional story to be told about heartbreak, second chances and moving on after hurt. The writing is smooth and engaging, the author does a wonderful job of writing a story that had my emotions all over the place. Each character has something different to bring to this great story. I felt every emotion the author wrote into the storyline and the chemistry between the characters was also felt, I’d feel like I truly knew these characters instead of reading about them. I’m giving this story a four star review and highly recommend it. I’m excited to read more from this author.
Rewind by Rowan Shaw
5-Stars
Rewind was an interesting novel that focuses on the LGBT community. It was exceptionally written with an easy to follow storyline. It was very steamy and romantic. Florian and Enzo were the two main characters. Each had a unique and distinguishable personality. Out of the two, Enzo was my favorite. He did not let his disability hold him back and eagerly pursues his dreams. I loved how driven he was and he also seemed easier for me to relate to. This book was not something I usually read and I felt that it taught me different aspects of its setting, French sign language, and also how hostile the world can be toward others. This book did have several sex scenes and also had several hateful scenes as well. I really enjoyed this novel and I think others would as well.
