No in between. All or nothing. Chris throws down the gauntlet and Sara acts. In Paris Sara learns about Chris’s life there including meeting his friends. The mystery surrounding Rebecca’s disappearance reaches across the Atlantic and mires Sara in red tape. Meanwhile she and Chris try to get answers about Ella but keep running into dead ends. He finally opens up fully to Sara about his demons.
While reading Chris and Sara’s third book I realized that you have to be in it for the long haul , just like them. Slow and steady. Some new characters are introduced and cause some friction for the couple. I was a bit disappointed at this big final secret Chris was keeping from her. While it was tragic, I in no way ever thought it would have an impact on their relationship. I’m looking forward to knocking out the next few novellas and then getting back to Chris and Sara.
Audiobook: Narrator – Grace Grant
Ms. Grant takes this narration up a notch beyond her performances in the previous books as some of these characters have a French accent. While I have to admit they did tend to all sound like the same person speaking, the accent was not so heavy that I couldn’t understand what was being said. I enjoyed listening to this one very much.
This picks up immediately where Being Me ended. Sara is at a crossroads and must make a decision about Chris. Of course, she chooses him – there would be no book had she not done so – but in choosing him, she is also choosing to learn his darkest secrets.
I grew a bit frustrated with Chris through part of this as he continued to put off revealing his secret and doing so was causing all kinds of drama – serious drama. When it’s finally revealed, I didn’t think it was all that dark. Nevertheless, this character struggled because of it and I’m not one to tell people, be they real or fictional, how they should process their feelings.
While this ends with Chris and Sara in a good place, it does leave you wondering if they will truly have their happy ever after. There’s a whole host of books following this one so I’m thinking it’s not going to be all that easy. It also leaves us wondering about Ella but I know this author went on to write a trilogy to cover her story so I’m okay with that.
I enjoyed this book very much. It’s extremely steamy, there’s a bit of angst throughout, and secondary characters were developed enough to make me either love or hate them exactly as the author intended.
I cannot begin to explain my love of this series. Once again the story starts with an excerpt from Rebecca’s journal. In “Being Me” we learned what happened to Rebecca and the story now continues with Sara heading off to a new life with Chris in Paris.
But let’s not make this an easy transition; starting at the Paris Airport, Sara gets her pocket picked and her wallet and passport are gone before she makes it to the customs line.
Then the cab ride is no picnic with a message from the detective handling the investigation of Ava and asking why she left in such a hurry. I almost want to scream at the injustice of the beginning, but the way Chris handles things has me relaxing and waiting for the next thing to come up.
More complications arise as we meet Amber, a good friend of Chris’, under the most unfavorable circumstances. Sara gets a lovely French tutor, Chantal, recommended by Katie, Chris’ godmother. Chantal helps with the language barrier as Sara begins looking for Ella. First at City Hall, then later at the US Embassy, Chantal is again needed when the French police show up. Can we say “Damn, Sara needs a break?
The story is fast paced and secrets are revealed. Sara and Chris work through a lot as they find how much they really do love each other.
My only complaint would be the cliffhanger, but the series is now complete so it’s not an issue.
Sara decides to go to Paris with Chris. Soon after their arrival, they were both naked on the living room rug when a female voice is heard. Of course, Sara jumps to conclusions thinking this must be one of Chris’s women, possibly wife, since she had access to the home and was so familiar with Chris. Finally she finds out this is Amber, who was once in a relationship with Chris years ago, but now checks on the apartment when he is in the states. However, Amber does have a pivotal role in why Chris seeks out the whip.
Amber is a manipulator, running a tattoo parlor with her boyfriend, Tristan, yet still holding on to some notion of Chris. More than once she gets her claws into Sara.
Sara begins a friendship with her french instructor, Chantal. Chantal is young and Sara instantly drawn into wanting to mother her. The mothering instinct in Sara is also what draws her into Amber’s web. Sara is also focused on wanting to find her friend Ella while in Paris.
