In the fourth novel in the New York Times bestselling Tradd Street series, Charleston realtor Melanie Middleton is determined to leave the past behind her. But history has a tendency of catching up with her, whether she likes it or not…Melanie is only going through the motions of living since refusing Jack Trenholm’s marriage proposal. She misses him desperately, but her broken heart is the … her broken heart is the least of her problems. Despite an insistence that she can raise their child alone, Melanie is completely unprepared for motherhood, and she struggles to complete renovations on her house on Tradd Street before the baby arrives.
When Melanie is roused one night by the sound of a ghostly infant crying, she chooses to ignore it. She simply does not have the energy to deal with one more crisis. That is, until the remains of a newborn buried in an old christening gown are found hidden in the foundation of her house.
As the hauntings on Tradd Street slowly become more violent, Melanie decides to find out what caused the baby’s untimely death, uncovering the love, loss, and betrayal that color the house’s history—and threaten her claim of ownership. But can she seek Jack’s help without risking her heart? For in revealing the secrets of the past, Melanie also awakens the malevolent presence that has tried to keep the truth hidden for decades…

Loved it.
I love all the books in this series. I have to suspend credibility a bit but they are such fun to read I can’t put them down. The characters are real and interesting without being too cliche.
Karen white’s Tradd Streets series is wonderful glimpse into Charleston the now and then. So beautifully written it makes you feel like you are peaking into your neighbors windows. The characters in the Tradd Street series are written with the great complexity we all have….the goods and the bad. I have ordered the rest of the series ….I am captivated by the characters and can’t imagine not finishing their stories. Once you fall in love you have to know…right? I have never been disappointed in Ms. White’s books but this series captivated me.
The plot was decent. What caused the book to lose stars was the main character. A forty year old woman that acts and sulks like a pre-adolescent gets in the way of the story.
I love this series and Karen White. Great suspense.
I love Karen White. Surely great entertainment. Nothing better than a good story.
just more southern gothic “I see dead people”
Good entertaining read.
Great combination of history, romance and supernatural. Loved it!
. I start these books and I can’t put them down. So entertaining I can’t wait for the next one. Karen White is a great story teller.
Love Kay Hooper!
One of my favorite authors and this series never disappoints
Love any book by Karen White, especially in this 4 book series.
Karen’s books mostly take place in Charleston and I have read most of her books. She must find Charleston an interesting city with lots of ghosts … or suggestion of ghosts. I like her style of writing.
I love Karen White and all of the Tradd Street series. I hope she will continue with them!
I love the Tradd Street series. And this one has you hanging on to the end. The sparks between Melanie and Jack just keep blazing. The dynamics of the relationships between the characters has you grinning, sighing, gritting your teeth, and ready to slap somebody silly.
The author does a great job of keeping the intrigue going and making you really care about the outcome of the drama surrounding Melanie’s house…and her life! I love how the mysteries surrounding Melanie and the ghosts/spirits that plague her bring to light stories that are interesting. It’s not a story just for a story.
Nola is coming into her own and, as a typical teenager, is struggling with her dad. I really like her spunk and the relationship she has with Melanie. She’s a great addition to Melanie and Jack’s lives.
Can’t wait to read the next installment in this series!
I loved this and all of the Tradd Street books.
Just like the previous books in the series, this book was impossible to put down for me! Wish it wasn’t years of waiting for a 1-2 day read for each sequel!
Loved this whole series
