There’s no place like home. Especially if home is the infamous Isle of the Lost. Mal, Evie, Carlos, and Jay haven’t exactly turned their villainous noses up at the comforts of Auradon after spending their childhoods banished on the Isle. After all, meeting princes and starring on the Tourney team aren’t nearly as terrible as Mal and her friends once thought they would be. But when they receive a … a mysterious invitation to return to the Isle, Mal, Evie, Carlos, and Jay can’t help feeling comfortable in their old hood—and their old ways. Not everything is how they left it, though, and when they discover a dark mystery at the Ise’s core, they’ll have to combine all of their talents in order to save the kingdom.

I didn’t care for this book. I had expected something better based on how much I enjoyed the first book in the series, but this one was sorely lacking. While reading it, I kept thinking it read like a first draft. The writing was horrible and felt very immature. I know this author can deliver better books, but I can’t recommend this book. I honestly continued reading it just so I could get it finished. I’m not one to stop reading books completely if I don’t like them, but I thought about doing so for this one. I have seen some really good reviews for the book, so maybe my opinion is wrong, but I leave that up to you to decide.
hi i love books a lot
I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH BUT I DONT KNOW HOW TO READ IT
interesting story always something new or diffrent
Return to the Isle of the Lost is the second book in the Descendants series. This book takes place after the first movie. ***I will lace the reading/watching order at the very bottom of this review***
We start this book with Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos are in Auradon. Mal has began dating Prince Ben, son of Belle and Beast. All four villain children have been receiving messages demanding them to return back to the Isle of the Lost. Without being noticed, they return to the Isle to discover Maleficent is still a lizard back in Auradon: Jafar, Evil Queen and Cruella De Vil are missing. Each of the villain children must go on a quest to The Endless Catacombs Of Doom retrieve an item that is associated with their parents. Mal must get the Dragon Egg: Jay needs to find the Golden Cobra: Evie need to retrieve a poisoned apple: and Carlos is tasked with finding the ring of envy. Their journey is tedious but only fit for heroes.
I loved everything about this book, series, and author. The book cover(s) are beautiful. The illustrations are beautiful. The word flow is beautiful. I loved that other areas were explored besides just Auradon and the Isle of the Lost. I loved that new characters were introduced in this book. I can’t wait to see what the next story line will be about.
*****READING/WATCHING ORDER*****
1. Isle of the Lost
2. Descendants
3. Return to the Isle of the Lost
4. Rise of the Isle of the Lost
5. Descendants 2
While the first book in this series took place prior to the events of the Descendants movie, this book took place immediately following those events.
Weird things are happening all over Auradon and Mal and her friends begin to receive messages…seemingly from their parents. While Ben must figure out what’s going on in Auradon, the others must go back to the Isle of the Lost and see what’s going on there.
In this adventure, we find new friends and foes, we follow the group on an adventure to their past but also towards their future. Each of the foursome must push through their own battle and inner demons to find something and help save their world.
I liked that this book focused a bit more on each of the four “villain kids” rather than mainly on Mal. I liked that we get to see how Ben is progressing in his role as King. I liked seeing Jay and Carlos branching out and making friends other than the four of them. I think this is a great book for middle school kids, as it shows that you’re stronger than you think, your friends are a true treasure, and that you don’t have to face difficulties all on your own.
Amazing highly recommend
I like this book as well as the one that came before it. I am looking forward to reading the 3rd one.
