The violent drug-related murders of two prominent attorneys have the homicide division of the Chicago Police Department scrambling for answers, but without clues, a motive, or a suspect, not even the FBI can track down the killer. With the media demanding an arrest and at their wits’ end, the Chicago Police Department makes an urgent call to the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office in hopes of … bringing in Kate Pierce, a psychic detective, on the case. A reluctant Kate agrees only when word comes that Jesse McCord, a new friend and top-notch Chicago homicide detective, has gone missing. Partnered with Detective Henry Johnson of Chicago’s homicide division, Kate goes on the hunt for the killer, armed with clues from her revealing dreams—and her dogged determination. As they inch closer to locating Jesse and learning the identity of the suspect, they realize the killer may be much closer than they think.

Editorial Review: “Psychic detective Kate Pierce works for a small-town Wisconsin sheriff’s department but gets called on by the big city when the Chicago Police Department finds itself at an impasse in a case involving two dead attorneys and a missing cop. Though Kate believes in the value of her work, she confronts not only a killer but also the good-old-boy network when her mostly male colleagues in Chicago ridicule her psychic abilities. This fresh, intriguing new heroine was a supporting player in some of Sutter’s previous novels and gets her well-deserved turn in the spotlight in this terrific new crime thriller series.” Angela M., Line Editor, Red Adept Editing

I am being generous here. This book was annoying, at best. If you are going to write about law enforcement, at least have some concept of what they do and how they do it. Try reading a book or two about it.
I couldn’t believe that this super smart, psychic detective managed to get kidnapped, twice. Really? And then another cop gets kidnapped. Chicago and Washburn County need some serious help here.
Did the author really think this would come across as realistic?
This had lots of five star reviews. I just don’t see it.
A new writer, I assume. Although I enjoyed it, many details not thought through. She was ridiculously vulnerable. Not enough angst. Someone is murdered?, never thought about again, someone becoming a full blown addict, not enough information on how that problem would be handled. Too lightweight. Was disappointed with the villian’s quick demise.
It could just be me, but the lead character was supposed to be psychic, yet she fell for every trick in the book and I really didn’t feel that she did anything a regular person couldn’t have done. I also found myself being pulled out of the story by professional detectives congratulating each other all the time on having the most basic ideas that I’d thought of long before they did. I think the book would also have benefitted by having more description of the characters, physically as well as beliefs, feelings etc to give the reader some form of bonding to them.
I really tried to push through this book, but annoyance overtook me at about 60%. The beginning had a point of view switch from third person in Chapter One, to first person throughout the rest. The shift made no sense. The main character came off as insecure and whiny from the start, so I couldn’t root for her. The police procedures were off base. The cops, in general, talked too much. They blabbed theory to the security camera tech. It was unnecessary for Kate to repeat her interaction with John every time someone else needed to know about it; as an audience we’d all heard it before. It felt like filler to drag out the book a bit more. The psychic angle was poorly treated. It wasn’t expanded enough, and her self identification as a “psychic detective” to others was ridiculous braggadocio that had little support to back it up.
Very well written. I couldn’t stop reading!
This one will keep you guessing and on the edge of your chair.
Great Job C M Sutter!
Read it in one shot…couldn’t put it down
I have read other of C.M. Sutter’s books and have enjoyed them. Not this one. What could of been a really good book (story line was solid) unfortunately turned into a bad read for me. Simplistic, unrealistic dialog. Unrealistic coincidences – the only building with a camera at street level happened to be the one where Jesse’s car was parked when he was kidnapped – really? Kate wasn’t killed the first time she was abducted because Lutz called and didn’t get an answer – really? I have read much better from Sutter as I said.
grabbed me right off & couldn’t put it down, finally sat up late to finish it. Really interesting plot & new twist on psychic abilities.
This book will keep you going as the characters are interwoven into the plot. To enjoy it the most, you must have a belief in that “gut” feeling which we all have. The main character in this book has an enhanced feeling which keeps you spell bound. Picture that evasive piece to a jigsaw puzzle you can’t find and you’ll get the idea. You’ll not want to put the book down as the suspense builds. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Excellent character in Kate Pierce. Great action. Surprising ending.
Not my cup of tea.
Just a trifle slow starting (don’t give up) because it develops each character so well you think (operative word – Think) you have a handle on how the plot will follow and how the outcome emerges . . . I enjoyed this read.
Good mystery
I am so sorry but I don’t remember what this book was about & cannot, in good conscience give a review. I do know that since I read it all the way thru that it was a good book or I wouldn’t have finished it.
i couldn’t ‘get into’ this book. but all books aren’t fpr everyone.
I love surprise endings. this book was interesting, frustrating to the characters and kept me reading into the night.
this was a great read. Action packed, scary, great characters. I love Kate. Couldn’t put it down. Can’t wait to read all of the series.
Wow what a great story….read in one day!!!!! Great job.
Very good
