An instant New York Times bestseller! Juliette and Warner’s story continues in the electrifying fourth installment of Tahereh Mafi’s bestselling Shatter Me series. The girl with the power to kill with a single touch now has the world in the palm of her hand. Juliette Ferrars thought she’d won. She took over Sector 45, was named the new Supreme Commander of North America, and now has Warner by her … North America, and now has Warner by her side. But when tragedy strikes, she must confront the darkness that dwells both around and inside her.
Who will she become in the face of adversity? Will she be able to control the power she wields, and use it for good?
“Will have fans groaning aloud for the next installment.”—Booklist

This one, book 4 in this series starts about a month and a half after book 3 ended and manages to not miss a beat. Still manages to have an eerie feel, though not as much as book 1 did, as they’re settling into what their life has become.
This one treats us to alternate POVs and a more intimate look at Warner and it works well.
I particularly like how this installment delves into what the world was like leading up to its world’s current state—it sounds much like our current world and should serve as a wake-up call. (Talks of division, racism, armed civilians, civil wars, etc.)
The corruption runs DEEP and it keeps me on the edge of my seat but also very appreciative of how well-designed this series is.
The drama, excitement and intrigue still manage to continue to escalate in this one and you will absolutely need book 5 immediately (Title: ‘Defy Me’).
4.5 stars
Note:
I listened to the audiobook. Thankfully, Kate (narrator of books 1-3) worked on this one as well so I still got to enjoy her smooth, comfortable voice. This one’s a duet, with a male reading the part of Warner. His voice isn’t as wonderful as Kate’s, but it works.
Note:
This one has a small continuity issue … just Juliette learning something ‘for the first time’ that we already saw her learn in book 2. Doesn’t impact the reading experience, but does indicate that Mafi could use a stronger editor, maybe.
I’m not even finished reading yet. I love it still. I’ll leave a proper review after.
Oh my God this book was so amazing and THAT CLIFFHANGER!!!!!’ AHHHHH!!!!!! I’m so glad the author decided to continue on with the series and I’m so excited to read the next book!!!!!!!
This is the fourth book of the Shatter Me series and I of course have it a 5 stars.
I really love the dual point of view between Juliette and Warner. It’s so interesting to be in both of their minds and following them as the plot moves on. I enjoyed both of them but if I had to choose one, I’d pick Warner because Warner y’all!!!!!!
In this book, we get to see Juliette’s journey as she handles the responsibilities of being a Supreme Commander. It is not easy as I would say but I love how she doesn’t give up even if she is in the verge to. We also get to see a dark side of her which was very interesting and badass!!!!!
I just love the relationship between Juliette and Warner so much, and it gets heart wrenching later on!!!!! Why do you do this to me Tahara?!!!!!!
I also love the brotherly relationship between Warner, Adam, and James and I hope we see more of them together later on in the story.
But what was a laughable surprise to me is the “friendship” (or frenimy) between Warner and Kenji. Every time there is a scene between them I just laugh at it. It’s so funny!!!!! Kenji is so amazing and I’m so happy will have two short stories in his perspective.
I also love how this book is more diverse than the past three books. We get to see characters from different countries and different ethnicities which was amazing.
I am so shipping Kenji and Nazeera !!!!!! Their dynamic was brief but very nice and I need more of them!!!!
And finally, that shocking end!!!!! Good thing that Defy Me is already published or I would have had to wait a year later for the book to come out!!!!
I wanted to like this book more. I was obsessed with this series and super stoked to find out their was another book out.
The entire book is basically Juliette either throwing herself a pity party for one or acting like an immature brat.
The ending is what made me give it the third star, as the developing story is going somewhere I never thought it would.
3 1/2 Stars actually.
I was about to give up on this book. I seriously was. While I didn’t find the book particularly interesting and I for the first time since reading books despised the dual point of view.
Even though I wasn’t drawn to the Restore me as I as the previous three books, I found myself right back in sector 45 as if I had never left. And that is purely what kept pushing me through the book.
Restore me really picked up for me about 60% in. And if I hadn’t already been 4 books in (3 novels and a collection of short) I probably would have set the hook aside on my to finish pile. I’m pleased that I tuck it through.
I praise Mafi for returning to us back to the world in which Juliette is learning to navigate. I found the curvature of the story, focusing much more on the romance department to be a tad odd. I guess with the explosive ending on Ignite me, I kind of expected it to continue through. It did not. I wasn’t to please with that. While romance was bumped up action seemed to be knocked down. Bummer for me, but maybe not for everyone.
I did find that I miss the presence on Adam greatly. I guess, as much I admire the relationship between Warren and Juliette, I’m still way team Adam. So I did miss his presence. But he was thrown into the mix sporadically in moment. But they almost felt as though they were an added thought to appease us Team Adam.
Ultimately I will continue this series as Mafi has once again left me hanging in suspense with the last 30 or so pages. Truly one of the most astonishing endings with the biggest of twist.
i LOVE
One of my favorite series ever!
Absolutely can’t wait for the next one!
***Contains some spoilers, read at your own risk***
This book exceeded my expectations. It was truly amazing but has left my heart shattered in a billion tiny pieces. I’m left with so many questions. I need to know more and we will have to wait a year to get those questions answered.
There were many different topics that are extremely true to issues that are happening in our world now. Restore Me, brought up issues of political views, diversity and transphobia; being different in this world meant you were exposed to violence; a violence that either lead to death or to you being a pawned, controlled and forced into a life that was no longer your own.
I just finished reading this book so I am still trying to formulate complete thoughts. We got to see a different side of Warner; his fears; his insecurities; his love. He was so vulnerable, especially when he was describing his feelings as he was experiencing his panic attack. That was just too real for me.
I can’t believe we have to wait a whole year to know more……that ending was just too much for me to handle…..are they alive? Who really died during the symposium? Who survived? The photo? What is the meaning behind that photo? My heart can’t take it right now…
