Ashes to Ashes. Dust to Dust. If vampires kill your entire family, vengeance is a must. I can’t say my parents never warned me about vampires. I just never believed them. Not—that is—until six months ago when vampires broke into my home and killed my family. Thanks to all the skills my parents taught me, I managed to escape but I couldn’t save them. Two vampires down and the rest of the world to … down and the rest of the world to go.
My bid for revenge is going to have to wait, though, because until I turn 18, I’m being placed in the loving care of Elizabeth and Jonathan McKnight—godparents I didn’t even know existed. The clock is ticking until I can get back to my goal of eradicating the vampire race. But something is amiss at my new high school. According to my parents, vampires can’t walk in daylight. So, why then, does Torin Priest? If he’s not a vampire, then what is he? Because unlike the obnoxious asshole, Maverick McKnight, who sees me as some sort of bloodsucking leech on his wealthy family, Torin Priest is most certainly not human.
To stake or not to stake, that is the question.

Holy crap this book was good! It was laugh out loud funny, action packed, and even had some steam. It had it all. I cannot wait to read book 2. I would have started last night but it was 1am and I had to force myself to get some sleep.
Rest in Pieces by Lucy Smoke / Lucinda Dark is a wonderful story to read. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series that I have loved reading. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about vampires, fantasy and paranormal romances.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
What originally pulled me in when I saw this book up for preorder was the name. When you hear the name Barbie a bad*ss vampire hunter isn’t really the first thing that comes to mind. All I could see was this girly girl in heels fighting vampires…so obviously I had to have it!
I am so incredibly glad that I snagged this beauty up! I devoured it in a single day and got a bit of a book hangover from it!
Barbie’s story of how she has gotten to where she’s at is one of true sadness but also of love and family. She will do anything in her power to get revenge for the tragedy that struck her family.
Sadly in the beginning Barbie is very closed off and doesn’t want to let anyone in for fear of losing them. Not to mention her fear of putting them at risk. It made it all the more difficult for Torin and Maverick to get her to trust them and rely on them for help.
Torin has a lot of his own family baggage that is a constant weight on his shoulders. Having a barely there father that wants nothing more than to rule the world makes life more than a little difficult for him. Especially when his father’s “minions” are constantly causing a ruckus when they visit to babysit Torin.
From the outside looking in Maverick has the perfect life, a nice family, money, popular, football star, basically the definition of a highschool king. He’s missing something tho, perhaps a someone, and Barbie just might be the perfect thing to fulfill the need that he didn’t even know he had.
So I was a little worried this would be a Buffy the Vampire Slayer knock off. I was really surprised when it wasn’t so much like it. Yes she is a slayer in some sense and of there are similarities but both are different enough that Rest in Pieces can stand on it’s own.
Barbie has had her world turned upside down. She carried an large amount of guilt with her and for understandable reasons. She’s fiesty and sarcastic and I love her.
Torin is an unusual character. You can tell off that bat that something is different about him but I have to admit I didn’t see the twist coming.
Maverick is hostile at first but it quickly drawn towards Barbie. I think I’m secretly rooting for him but still unsure.
The ending had one heck of a twist that I doubt you’ll see coming and if you do then you’re awesome! I can’t wait to read book 2!
This book checked ALL my boxes! Multiple lovers, fantasy, steamy, badass FMC with a filthy mouth, plot twists, and an already completed series! What more could a girl ask for? I was completely drawn in by this story from start to finish. If I could have read it in one sitting, I would have. When I did set it down (because life), it was all I thought about! Now excuse me while I go bury my nose in book two!
Quick and dirty facts:
– Complete series
– Barbie: Badass and smartass FMC – 17 years old
– Sexy vampires
– Menage
– Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance
– Medium Burn Menage
– Revenge
– Multi POV
I can not say how much I loved this series. I read book one and was immediately at a loss since book 2 was not out yet. And when it came out I made myself wait until book 3 was out and read the whole series from beginning to end in 2 days. I loved it so much I could not put it down.
Barbie is a total badass and her charter development was perfect. The relationship to her men was perfect and well developed. These was a real story with emotion which was amazing. Who doesn’t love a good revenge story that has some steamy sex along they way.
The twists also in this series were not anticipated and were a great surprise that kept me and I am sure any who read it hooked into the series. The succubus demon being in her was perfect and comical at times. I hope to see more series like this because I loved it!
It was well written and developed. It would even say realistic because it made me honestly thing that there could be vampires and the way this is written it could be real. I highly recommend this book series.
A laugh out loud read. An intriguing read with some buffy style scenes. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to read more.
I love Lucy Smoke (Lucinda Dark), and this book is no exception. Barbie is a kickass heroin that I loved reading.
I know that some folks will find a comparison between this book and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It definitely has everything i loved about that TV series but Barbie (FMC) has way more wit and sarcasm than that show. Add to that one hot Vampire – Torin, One hot foster brother – Maverick, a bloody brilliant story and its an action-packed, rip roaring read. I just flaming loved it!!!!
I was captivated by Barbie’s story. Witnessing the murder of your family, feeling all the guilt to let it happen and to live with it without being able to tell anybody, apart the fact of also being a threat to those close to you, definitely messed with anybody ‘s head. All this brilliantly written. I won’t miss it’s continuity.
I really liked this book. I loved the characters and the storyline. My interest was grabbed from the beginning and kept throughout. I would recommend reading.

I really enjoyed this take on the vampire hunter. The book is engaging, well-written, beautifully descriptive, and quite enthralling. My husband interrupted one of the fight scenes to ask if I was okay–apparently I was breathing hard, being so caught up in the drama. I was excited to get my hands on the book because I LOVED the Dark Maji Books (seriously–do yourself a favor and go get those ones RIGHT NOW); this is not as dark, being a much lighter approach, but this also means that it isn’t as psychologically complex, and doesn’t have quite the same emotional depth. Let me reiterate that this observation in no way diminishes this book–it is a well-written, fun, excellent tale with a healthy dash of romantic tension. I loved it.
This was such a fun book for me. I loved Barbie’s sarcasm, her witty retorts, and the deadpan humor strung throughout.
“Don’t worry, I don’t bite,” the girl at my side said, sending me a polite smile.
“I should hope not,” I replied. Because if she did, then I’d have to stake her.
I cannot wait for the next installment in this fun series, especially after the twist toward the end. I’m also not sure if I’m Team Maverick or Team Torin. Maybe Team Both?
Overall, an excellent, fast-paced story with lots of action, hot guys, and a heroine I’d love to call my best friend. Happy Reading!
What a fantastic start to the series! This book is full of mystery, murder, and vampires. Three of my favorite things! Barbie is the snarky and quick-witted herione and she is also a bada$$. I want to be Barbie!! She is surrounded by two hot guys and the sexual tension is off the charts. I loved everything about this book and am patiently awaiting book 2’s release on December 30th.
Barbie’s been through a lot in the last six months. Her family is killed in front of her as she and her now-dead brother learn that what their parents had been teaching them was real. Vampires really do exist. Barbie just believed it too late.
Now she’s living in a new town, in a new house, with a new family, learning to navigate through her first experience at school, all while trying to find the vampire that ordered the death of her family. It’s a lot for a girl to handle on her own. Maybe the son of her new guardians, Maverick, who said he didn’t trust her at all, isn’t as bad as she thought. Or maybe Torin, who used to be Maverick’s best friend, could end up lending a hand.
Barbie tries hard not to develop feelings for anyone. She doesn’t want to see anyone else hurt by her mistakes. But that could be hard when the schools ruling Kings both seem to like her. Barbie is prickly, smart-mouthed, and anti-social. She’d doesn’t want to rely upon anyone and she doesn’t want help. Maverick and Torin are determined to do it anyway. And when that vampire she’s hunting still wants her dead, and could be closer than she realizes, that might be a good thing. Whether she thinks so or not.
And then there’s Satrina…
I do think maybe Barbie is a little too hard to get along with to have the two most popular guys in school fighting over her, but then it’s got to be refreshing to not have people fawn over their every move or word. It never worked for me personally, which, bummer. But I found her character consistent. She does and doesn’t want to have connections, and that internal struggle is believable. I ‘m excited to see how book two lets these characters grow when the danger gets bigger.
WOW! Barbie is Amazing!
This story is absolutely fantastic! It’s full of action, suspense and intrigue, with so many little twists and turns. The whole story is a phenomenal rollercoaster ride from beginning to end. Once you start reading you won’t be able to stop.
Barbie is one kickass troubled teenager! She has had some really bad things happen to her, which forced her onto a path that she really wasn’t ready to take just yet. But she will do anything for vengeance. The two new men in her life will either help her or eventually be her downfall.
Favourite quotes: “And in case you can’t understand that, understand this…thou shalt not try me. Do so at your own peril.”
“I’m like a flower. I look beautiful and sweet, but I’ve got a f*** ton of thorns and if you f*** with me, I will stab you.”
I freaking love Barbie. She’s fierce and feisty in a no holds barred kindle of way!
Phenomenal writing and storytelling. I can’t wait to read the next one.
This was my first book by Lucinda Dark, and it will definitely not be my last. The story pulled me in and refused to let go, the characters kept me wonderfully entertained, and the twist at the end took me by surprise and made me look up the release date of Book Two! The slow burn tension between Barbie, Torin, and Maverick gave me all of the tingles, and left me in eager anticipation of the next part of the story. Start this one today, and you won’t be sorry!!!
I’d been looking forward to this back as far back as when the author did the cover reveal – Barbie the Vampire Hunter? Um, yeah! It sounded right up my alley. Thankfully, it lived up to my expectations. Barbie, our MC, has had a hard life…well, for the last few years, since her parents died and the vampires she warned them about turned out to be real. Since then, she’s pulled her walls tight around herself and refused anybody to get close. She has one goal, to get revenge for her parents’ death and find out why they were targeted. A crimp gets in the way of those plans, however, when godparents she’s never heard of suddenly offer to bring her into their home and she’s placed there by social services. It means dealing with a new home, anew school, and a new guy, Maverick, son of her new godparents, and general jerk who think she’s just there to leech of his family. But then, there’s also Torin, another guy at school, who has a mysterious history with Maverick, can’t keep his eyes off the new girl, and isn’t quite human. Man, this story was awesome. Barbie was bad***, and it was so engrossing to watch her growing relationships with Torin and Maverick (and their relationship to each other) unfold. And then, that twist at the end, well, I can’t wait to see where that goes (no spoilers), but it left me dying for more. Well done!

Rest In Pieces is a kick@ss book all the way around. It’s like a mix between Buffy the Vampire Slayer (oh come on, you knew I was going there) and supernatural. Barbie is just a ball of freaking awesomeness. She’s been through some serious crap and that makes her keep her walls up tight. She’s sassy, spunky, everything you wish you could be but would never have the balls to pull off. Mav and Torin are the two guys butting all up in her business. She has a mission but they seem to want to get in her way, one way or another. They also have their own drama going on.
RIP will definitely keep you on your toes for the whole book. You will get sucked into the action, picking your jaw off the floor from the twists, and cursing Lucinda at the end of the book b/c yea she totally made that happen. Grr. Get ready for a bumpy ride peeps, Barbie is a little stabby.
Absolutely loved everything about this book. Lucinda put all the things into a book that makes me lose myself in it/I devour in a couple sittings. I love Barbie. She is sassy and hilarious. I snorted at a couple places. There is also some amazing tension and butt-kicking scenes that had me on the edge of my seat. Cannot wait til book 2 is here, I will be rereading this series again and again, I can already feel it. It might have tied my favorite book by Lucinda’s other pen name, which is saying something because that other book is in my top 20 of RH books of all times.
