I read the second story of this series first and was so entranced that I decided that I needed to read the first one as well. I enjoyed the characters and the plot very well. There were some editing issues though. It wasn’t enough to detract from the story though.
Lucy and Thomas are two very intelligent and caring doctors. Lucy left Jupiter, FL for Marietta, MT to become Director of ER in the smaller hospital. She is the youngest of four. All of her siblings are doctors and she felt lost in their shadows. She needed to break out and make something on her own. Thomas was a doctor that traveled around and filled in where needed. He came to Marietta to help his childhood friend Jade make repairs on her house that she inherited. She had saved his life several years ago and he felt the need to return the favor.
This story is the coming together of these two wonderful people and the hardships of building a relationship and overcoming the past issues. I was enthralled with the story the entire time that I was reading.
There are some sexual scenes but are not highly detailed. It is not erotica as there is a wonderful story here and the few scenes are just showing the development of the relationship between two mature adults.
I highly recommend this story.
Umm, this was definitely not for me. I finished it, but boy, I thought about ditching it several times. It’s very slow-moving and I just couldn’t get into the characters. While the setting was at a local hospital’s ER, there were just as many scenes at the local hotel. I did like the nerd/geek aspect of both characters, and the Narnia links. Other than that, I didn’t find a whole lot to keep me from putting the book down. Both characters suffered major traumas that decided their careers and how they ended up in Marietta. They both overcame their trauma before coming to Marietta, but Marietta is also used as further healing. I’m not sure how well that worked out for either of them other than they met one another. I’m not sure that was healing or taking their minds off the events that scarred their lives. At any rate, this book was not as engaging as I had expected or hoped it would be.
Very slow start. Same thing to long
fun read
Seemed like FOREVER since I have visited Marietta and today was a good day to get lost in my favorite fictional hometown. What better place to start than by visiting the local ER. The first time I read this book (yes this is my second read), I was newly recovering from a nasty accident so I don’t remember much. This time Doctors Thomas and Lucy stuck with me. I invite you to visit Marietta too. This book is the start of a new series. Dr Lucy has a strong will and it is needed as the director of the ER. Thomas is a doctor who travel around never landing in one hospital for long. He thinks he needs to be a protector. I love we get to meet new people and reconnect with some of our old friends . As most of you know i love Marietta, i love the people , their heart so much more. This book has heart.
Resisting The Doctor by Patricia W. Fischer
Am familiar with the setup of Marietta and thought I’d enjoy this book. This is a new to me author to read.
Book starts out with Dr. Lucy Davidsons and they’ve just had a patient that rolled in that wanted out…fast.
Love the scene by scene descriptions as I do watch medical drama shows on tv and I can feel myself being there with them.
Like hearing of the patients and their problems and how they are being cured after finding a diagnosis.
Lucy needs to prove herself to others and hopes to take charge of the ER soon.
Another doctor, Thomas had arrived in town a bit ago and he’s fascinated with the knowledge Dr. Lucy has.
Like hearing Thomas side to what’s going on and Lucy’s side as she takes order and puts things in order.
We learn different things from the past about each and the puzzle pieces fit nicely.
Love hearing of the other shops in town that are visited-like refreshing my mind of places gone to before in other works by other authors.
Like hearing of the conflict when new characters are introduced til you realize how they play a part in the story.
Misunderstandings and confrontations til a solution is found. Liked this author and looking forward to the next in the series.
Hot steamy sex scenes. Really like medical parts of this, didn’t think I would.
Loved the scenery as we are hikers also.
Received this review copy from Tule Publishing and this is my honest review.

This is Marietta Medical Book #1.
It is the story of Dr. Lucy Davidson and ER physician, Thomas McAvoy.
Lucy is determined to prove herself worthy of being the permanent facility director.
She is determined nothing will sway her course until the handsome ER physician shows up.
Thomas has come to Marietta to help out the woman who saved his life in a near fatal accident. He is still recovering and he appreciates the pace of the rural setting as opposed to the fast pace in the city’s ER. He has no intention of sticking around until he grows closer to the facility director, Lucy.
As their relationship heats up, they both have to decide if they can make it permanent. Will they let old wounds destroy the future they could have?
I really enjoyed their story. The chemistry they shared was easy to see and undeniable.
This book is incredible! I enjoyed learning the histories behind Dr. Thomas McAvoy and Dr. Lucy Davidson. Both have had a rough life at different times in their lives that lead them both into being the hardworking, kindhearted doctors they are today. This romance has a little bit of wit, romance, healing, and love!
WOW!! I was blown away while reading Resisting the Doctor by Patricia W. Fischer, the first book in her Marietta Medical series. This wonderful story has two nerdy ER doctors attracted to each other, sharing sizzling chemistry, with only a couple of problems; she’s his boss and he is temporarily working in Marietta. Dr. Lucy Davidson is young looking and struggles to be taken seriously; sexism is alive and well, as she works to become the permanent ER director. Dr. Thomas McAvoy came to Marietta to help a friend who saved his life but realizes the slower pace of this assignment might be a good fit as he still struggles with overcoming the damages he sustained in his near fatal attack. After years of not finding the yin to their yang could Lucy and Thomas have found their life partners?
I enjoyed the strength Lucy had in facing the world, not wanting to live on the laurels of her siblings. She fit in well with the ER team and I loved the way she proved her ninja skills, taking care of a rebellious drunk patient. Sometimes, it’s still hard to be taken seriously when you are a woman. I could associate with Lucy not wanting to ask for help but liked the manner in which Ms. Fischer handled Thomas finding a way to give her that help without taking anything away from her. Thomas had his own demons but I loved the way he found coping mechanisms to deal with them and open up to Lucy about them.
I loved this book and didn’t want to put this book down, reading it in one day. Ms. Fischer wrote a wonderful story that drew me in, not letting me go until I turned the last page. I highly recommend this book to other readers and can’t wait for the next book in this series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
