From the New York Times bestselling author of the Driven series comes a powerful romance about reaching great heights through low depths.Who says you have to play by the rules to get what you want?Agreeing to meet Ryker Lockhart is my first mistake. Rich, handsome, and more than intriguing, he thinks blackmail will bend me to his will. But he’s wrong.I may have done a few things that weren’t … wrong.
I may have done a few things that weren’t exactly legal, but I have my own reasons for that. The last thing I’m going to do is let some high-powered divorce attorney come into my life, have my body, and rule my heart. Not to mention ruin everything that I have carefully built in just a short amount of time.
But as much as I try to resist him, and against my better judgment, there is something about him that has me agreeing to his proposal.
I’m putting everything on the line for him. I just hope I won’t lose everything when this is all over.

I received an advanced copy of K. Brombergs Resist. It was an amazing read. It was full of lust, sex, romance, betrayal and a huge cliffhanger. I’m in a huge book hangover because of this book.
Kristy’s writing gets better and better with each book she writes. The plots that she comes up with amaze me. As with all her books, she gives subtle nods here and there to characters from other books she’s written. We get a guest appearance by Colton Donovan and Rylee and Haddies saying before shots is mentioned in the book. There may be others hidden in there, there often is, but I got too distracted with Vaughn and Rykers story to notice (which is a good thing) Is it possible to give this book 6 out of 5 stars because that’s what it deserves. Just as I was about to start falling for Ryker he goes and does what he does and it’s back to being an arrogant ass. My heart is broken for Vaughn right no.
We are halfway through 2019 and this book is by far the best read of 2019 so far and I’ve read some really amazing books this year. Unlike most 2 part books, this book was long and full of detail. It’s one of the things I love about Kristy’s writing, how she goes into great detail to explain a situation or a character and this book is no different. It’s a full length book as if it was a standalone and I can’t wait for the conclusion to see how Ryker and Vaughn’s story ends.
TWO WORDS… Kristy Bromberg… how can you go wrong. Love her writing and this goes way and above her books. What an amazing read! Thank God we have 2 books to enjoy!
holy balls of fire that was HOT! … it was passionate and intense, captivating and hypnotic, and just outright powerful. All of it.
Ryker fucking Lockhart … *swoon* This frikkin guy! He is an alpha force to be reckoned with and Vaughn Sanders just might be the woman to blow that force to smithereens!! Their push/pull intensity is one of the sexiest I have read in a while.
This story/book is just the beginning of this ruthless journey Ryker and Vaughn need to navigate to get to the other side of … happiness? Love? Freedom? There are twists and turns running amok with enough secrets to keep you glued to this story. I myself could not stop reading! When I got the end I legit had a mini stroke. LEGIT people. I don’t even had words …..
If you like your stories to be thought provoking and intense in all areas, this is definitely one journey you do not want to miss #TRUST
I was pleasantly surprised with Resist book. It was something new and unexpected written Kristy Bromberg author. Vaughn and Ryker story kept me in suspense from the very first chapter. Author jumps in to the story from the very beginning with fast pase and twist of action. We are pulled in pool of lies and secrets that surrounds main characters. I was hooked by the plot and couldn’t put this book down.
I love the name of main female character Vaughn. She was independent, smart and feisty beautiful young woman with a sassy mouth.
She was carrying a huge burden on her shoulders. I didn’t see it from the beginning but she was so broken inside. Her soul was shattered to a million pieces.
The reason for this state lay deep down, buried inside her soul and I was wondering if there is a chance for a salvation for her heart and soul?
Ryker Lockhart was wealthy and handsome attorney with devilish smirk and arrogant attitude. He was confident and ruthless shark in the court and knew how to get what he wanted, also didn’t take no for the answer. And he wanted Vaughn.
They’re relationship was hard but also very powerful. They’re like two perfectly match imperfections. They’ve pushed and pulled one another, any of them didn’t want to let go, each one for their own reason. They’re challenged one another and all of this led them to the intensive, steamy passion and lust that my brain was sizzling from.
Sometimes I wanted to shake Vaughn a little bit for her actions but I knew that there was a purpose for it all.
The title of this book perfectly fit to this story. Resist. Yes, they fought with their feelings but couldn’t resist each other.
There was so many emotions in this story.
Sometimes author have broken my heart and the minute later put pieces back together.
There were scenes where I didn’t realize that I was holding my breath, mesmerized I was absorbing every word. This story just captivated me.
There is always something magical in the Kristy Bromberg books and Resist was one of them. Now, after a huge cliffhanger, I can’t so freaking wait for Reveal, conclusion of this amazing story.
To be perfectly honest, I didn’t know what to expect about this book when I was going into it. Sure, I’d read the synopsis and I suppose I knew a vague indication based on the genre, but I ultimately started Resist without much. And to be perfectly honest again, I’m not sure I know what happened after finishing it.
Considering the romance genre, I found the writing mostly enjoyable to follow but the storyline and plot a bit lacking. I found myself skimming a lot of scenes but also engrossed in some of the interactions between characters. I questioned plenty of plot-holes which made the storyline that much more unbelievable, and I even questioned things that weren’t even plot-holes (because I’d missed small details when I was skimming.) And I found that some of the characters were lily-pads (characters that only exist to allow the MC to bounce through a plot), mostly the side characters that were in scenes for dialogue once or twice and then never heard from again.
Honestly, the whole book had me all over the place and I can’t really concentrate fully on my thoughts. There were definitely good things in this book, but I don’t think there was much to rave about. The ending surprised me enough that I would think about getting the next book just to see what happens next.
I’m all for good romantic cliches, alpha males and drama, but even I have a limit.
Resist is the story of Ryker and Vaughn, a couple that have undeniable chemistry but they come from very different backgrounds. Ryker is a successful divorce lawyer and Vaughn is the madam of an escort service. She is a strong woman doing what she has to do for the love of her niece. Both characters are complex and multilayered, and sometimes a little frustrating when they can’t be on the same page at the same time. However, this does create great push-pull between the two. There is an underlying heaviness to Vaughn’s past and Ryker just came out of a deceptive relationship. Learning to trust again is at the heart of the book, but then there’s a huge cliffhanger that I wasn’t expecting. I can’t wait to read the next installment.
Holy smokes let’s just say major cliffhanger. This book was explosive. I loves Ryker and Vaughn. Their characters where perfect and strong and oh so sinfully explosive together. Once I started reading I just could not put this book down.
K bromberg knows how to write one hell of a book. This books hotness and twist and turns I would say is right on board with Driven it will get you on the edge of your seat with how good it is. Love love loved it.
You know that I love K Bromberg if you’ve followed my blog for awhile now, and I’ll read pretty much anything she writes. This book takes me back to the series that originally introduced me to her books. It has the emotion and the angst and all the feels that I got from reading Driven for the first time. Fortunately for me, unlike with that book, I know that there is another book, and that Bromberg likes to leave us hanging and needing the next book. Unfortunately for me, unlike with that book, the sequel isn’t out yet, and so now I have to wait until September to find out where it is going!
I loved Vaughn, and I even loved Ryker right away. I could see all the problems that Vaughn was going to have though with her plan to try to adopt her niece. There’s just so many ways her plan to raise the money to pay off her debt quickly could go wrong. Not to mention that we get some hints as we go through the book that she may have a stalker out there, someone we just don’t know who it is. Although I have my suspicions of course. I also have my suspicions on what was really going on at the end, and I’m very anxious to read on and see if I’m right! Because I need my love for Ryker to be restored.
Hopefully I’ll get to see the author at Book Bonanza a week from today and I can let her know what she’s done to me with another cliffhanger.
Wow! Talk about major cliffhanger. This is the first book I have read by this author and since this one was a cliffhanger, it won’t be the last. This story intrigued me from the start and captivated me right until the cliffhanger. Have I mentioned there was a cliffhanger?
Both characters were very well developed and likable. There was certainly no mistaking the chemistry between Vaughn and Ryker. This story was also refreshing in that it had a unique plot twist that I haven’t personally encountered before. Overall, I really enjoyed it and cannot wait to read what happens next.
At first I thought this book was going at a super slow pace and I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to really get into it. But my gosh was I wrong. This book will bring you up with the sexual chemistry between the main characters and then bring you down with their troubles, but then bring you back up before you go down again. RESIST is filled with the longing of getting to you goal while starting out at such a low spot in life, and not letting anything come in between you and that goal. For our main heroine Vaughn, her goal is to gain full custody of her late sisters daughter who has special needs, not just because the girls father is a drunk druggie, and not just because that was what her sister wanted, but because she genuinely loves that little girl with all her heart and would do absolutely anything to keep her. Even working two jobs: a waitress at a gentleman’s club, and as a Madam for an escort service.
But when she has to fill in for one of her girls (which she never does), is when she meets the handsomely, bossy, man named Ryker Lockhart.
Ryker is known for getting his way in & outside of the courtroom as a Divorce Lawyer, where he only represents the husband in the divorce, never the wife.
So when the girl he picked out for his escort isn’t able to make the appointment and he gets someone else entirely, he expects to get the same treatment as the first girl would have. He just did not expect to figure out later that the same girl who was his fill in just happened to be the Madam of the escort service- and a waitress at gentleman’s club.
He also doesn’t expect to start falling for her.
Towards the end of the book when they both come to realization that they have fallen for each other, all of a sudden something happens and Vaughn’s view and feelings for Ryker are shattered, and you want nothing more than to just punch him in the face repeatedly.
CLIFFHANGER.
This book has a major cliffhanger but it totally works and I’m not even mad about it because this book was just that good and I can’t wait for book 2!
“Ryker. The name I’ve wanted her to say, and yet when she does, there’s a vulnerability to it that does shit to my insides. It makes a man whose heart is cold and dead flicker to life.”
Resist is one of those surprise books that catch you off guard, but in a good way. This book was nothing like I thought it would be. But once I started it I just could not stop. I was obsessed with everything about this story and characters. Its not K. Bromberg’s usual style but I’m absolutely digging it. If this isn’t a explosive start to a duet I don’t know what is. I am on pins and needles for part two! September can not get here fast enough. I’m still speechless from that mind blowing ending. Resist was a sinfully spun web of power, lust, and deceit. It painted a world of powerful men, haunted pasts, and darker secrets. Ryker and Vaughan was a hurricane of emotions, and complicated at best. They know how to keep your emotions a wreck. One page they had me wanting to scream in frustration, to swooning the next. They always kept me wanting more. I also found myself absolutely adoring Lucy! Her character was tastefully done, and the breath of fresh air this story needed. That little girl is out to own my heart!
“She’s like lightning— that’s what she is. She strikes without warning and is going to singe every d*mn part of me no matter what kind of shelter I try to hide under.”
Vaughan is one of those bad*ss heroine’s you can’t help but to immediately like. She owned it in this book! I have never admired a heroines strength quit like I did hers. She was guarded, head strong, and confident. She didn’t back down from a fight, and I loved that. Vaughan had this way of keeping you on your toes. You never knew exactly what side to her you was going to get. She was complex, complicated, and intriguing. Even at her most vulnerable, she always managed to come out strong.
“when I close my eyes, I can still taste Ryker on my tongue, I can still see that look in his eyes . . . I can still feel how he made me feel when I didn’t want to.
Ryker is my next book boyfriend, I’m calling dibs now. I am definitely suffering a serious case of the SWOONS! Ryker’s character constantly kept me surprised. I almost felt like I had whiplash with how fast he could switch from cold, calculated lawyer, to a heart melting romantic. He knows how to keep your emotions a mess. I can’t count how many times I wanted to smack him, only to find myself melting at his words the next. Ryker was a powerful man who knew exactly how to get what he wants. He may have been far from perfect but by god he sure tried.
“There’s something different every time actually—something new I learn, something new I feel— but this time it’s unmistakable. This time he shows me how he feels. This time, I know I’m not alone anymore.”
*5 STARS*
Well earned for this heart stopping face paced start to the Wicked Ways Duet. I definitely feel the book hangover coming. I highly recommend one clicking this book!
This story was so freakin’ good!!
“Completely not what I expected and everything I wanted.”
Vaughn Sanders is doing what she can to make ends meet and pay off her debts, with the goal of being able to secure her future and be a good provider. All the while, she’s juggling a couple of different personas. With her, what you see is definitely not what you get. However, when she meets Ryker Lockhart, with a view to taking her business up another level, she never expected him to stir up feelings in her that has her confused and running scared.
“I know that there’s something about Ryker that affects me in ways no one has before.”
Ryker Lockhart is one of NYC’s in-demand divorce lawyers. Alpha, cynical and demanding. He meets his match in Vaughn. At first sight, she knocks him off his feet. She’s resistant and snarky. He knows he shouldn’t waste his time on her but, somehow, she’s gets under his skin. So begins a game of cat and mouse between them. Who is willing to concede first?
“I’ll save you the trouble and just lay it out for you. You’re going to be mine.”
Gah! This story was fantastic! I loved the friction between Vaughn and Ryker. The initial power play between them is thrilling; one not willing to submit to the other. They push each other to the limit. Ryker is totally turned on by her ballsiness yet, at the same time, completely frustrated by her resistance to him. Vaughn is always in control. She’s got too much at stake to risk making a slip-up. However, Ryker is like no one she’s ever met. He’s infuriating but irresistible. She comes across so tough but she’s also incredibly vulnerable, as the thread of her control over her life begins to loosen. The two of them together are combustible and I adored the tentative tenderness between them, which made the ending so shocking. I’m desperate for the concluding book!!
What an amazing read!! Took me on a high like no other and the BAM out of nowhere it came crashing down and had me stunned like no other!! Need the next installment ASAP!!!
Well what can I say, this book kinda had me hook line and sinker! I enjoy all of Kristy’s books but Resist is a change to her writing style from the last few books she has released. For me it is on par with The Player Duet and the Driven Series in that the content felt more mature, raw and gritty a little more down and dirty.
Ryker is the Hero, a talented, tough and successful divorce attorney who only represents the men of the relationships. He has made a name for himself and works hard for his success, an Alpha male who knows what he wants and takes it.
Vaughn is the heroine and I loved her because she has a huge heart and the gumption to back it up. A woman who has spirit and fight, a woman who doesn’t let the Alpha men drown her in the pool of sharks she is trying to stay afloat in. Even when she begins to fall below the surface she holds her chin high and I admire that in her.
Both Vaughn and Ryker have a lot of walls to break down, and secrets they hold. Ryker is a man who expects his money and demeanour will grant him what he wants and is used to having it this way, he is a man who does not expect to find love.
Vaughn herself has a past full of hardships that she slowly reveals to Ryker. Meeting Lucy was a stand out aspect of this novel, she is an important part to the story and certainly someone special, providing a levity to the story when it’s needed.
I enjoyed the chemistry between Ryker and Vaughn, the back and forth resistance they both show to yield to the others demands built tension. Both characters for me came across as multi faceted and seeing the softer sides of Ryker come through *swoon* there certainly is a hard and a soft to that man! However that ending OMG! I mean there are plenty of ups and downs in the novel as it is but just when you get comfortable with where book 1 is tying up you get kicked in the gut! I am a fan of cliffhangers (I’m a sucker for emotional torture) and this delivered, September seems so far away right now; but I know it’s going to be worth the wait
Resist is the perfect title for the beginning of Ryker Lockhart and Vaughn Sanders’ story, and while it’s clear that Vaughn is the one who wants and maybe even needs to resist this sexy, intelligent, and arrogant divorce attorney, it certainly seems that her resistance is futile, regardless of what she could lose by giving into her attraction to Ryker and losing focus on why she’s living a double-life in the first place.
Vaughn Sanders is all business and there are multiple reasons for her tunnel vision focus that are revealed throughout the course of the story. She’s intelligent, driven, and resolute on what she needs to accomplish in order to reach her goals but her present is built on a mountain of lies and with a man like Ryker, it seems to only be a matter of time before Vaughn’s facade crumbles and everything she’s trying to keep hidden threatens to unravel.
Mixing business with pleasure is never advised, but these two can’t seem to resist one another and despite the fallout that could ensue from them pursuing any other type of relationship other than a strictly professional one, it’s clear that they can’t stop their feelings from growing, which means there’s a real possibility that their closeness just might be their downfall, especially with the number of outside interferences that seem to want everything these two have built and are building to burn to the ground.
Even at the end of Resist, I still don’t have a complete understanding of either Ryker or Vaughn, and while I feel like that’s deliberate on the part of the author, it still makes me question their motives, their words, and their actions. The reason these two meet as well as why Ryker pursues Vaughn so tirelessly factor into the direction their more than professional relationship goes, but there’s a lot that Ryker doesn’t know about Vaughn’s past and present, which means that it’s difficult to ascertain his reaction when Vaughn’s secrets and lies are unearthed.
There are multiple plot line threads strewn throughout Resist – some that help shed light on both Ryker and Vaughn while others focus specifically on one or the other, shedding light on certain areas of their lives as well as enlightening readers about all that could destroy them.
Ryker and Vaughn’s story has only just begun, which means that Resist ends in quite the cliffhanger, forcing readers to wait to see what happens, knowing that things may not be what they seem, until the next installment, Reveal, releases.
4.5 Poison Apples
Ryker and Vaughn were meant to have some type of relationship. Ryker a man who goes after what he wants without hesitation even if he is being cruel and caring at the same time. Vaughn who has a plan for her life surrounding with pain and grief but stayed strong until Ryker shows her differently. Kristy definitely showed some unexpected journey at the end of this book and can’t wait for part two.
I went into this completely blind. First off, you should know that it is book one of a duet, so things are not resolved in Resist. Hello, cliffhanger! I started this in ebook and finished it in audiobook. I loved it. K. Bromberg is an automatic one-click for me so I was not surprised that it was amazing. What did surprise me was the amount of suspense she doled out in this one.
Vaughn is living sort of a double life in order to get custody of her niece. And she has some CRAZY baggage. Ryker is a big-time divorce attorney who is completely over women. They meet and the chemistry is off the charts. There is a lot of angst but it all felt really organic. As always, I very much enjoyed the writing. Kristy Bromberg is a master at weaving a story. I had a fun time noticing some “Easter eggs” that she threw in from other books.
Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke made it even better with their fantastic narration. I highly recommend and can’t wait to get my hands on book two! Thankfully, we don’t have long to wait as it releases in September.
*I received an ebook ARC from NetGalley
How much I love this book ! Specialy because ONE, the most IMPORTANT reason – K . BROOMBERG as an author never dissapionts !!!! This woman exactly knows how to lead her story and chatacters in this amazing way, which makes her readers speachless, breathless…. with heart beating very, very fast!!!! I still can’t get enough of Ryker and Vaughn.
I was really excited for this book, since the first time I saw that another mastermpiece will be realeased by Kristy ! I can’t lie… I was counting my days impatiently And this time haven’t been lost !!! From the very first paiges I dive deeply in this book. From one word to another one I only wanted to know more… For sure Resist …. will make You feel, that You can’t RESIST Ryker and Vaughn !
Vaughn and Ryker are strong characters, however…. they are even stronger together ! They fight with each other… they fight with themselfs, …. falling for someone who might be as tough as we are… could give a little problems, right ? I liked to watch how they tried not give up their feelings. Love could be very fraigle, but when the right person shows up, nothing else matters. Vaugh and Ryker gave me amazing time…. Chemistry between them was over the charts, adding this with great story line, and alll drama in the background…. ? THIS BOOK couldn’t be more perfect!
Highly Recomending Resist by K BROMBERG, its beautiful but also not that easy love
Just when I thought that this author couldn’t blow me away, she did it again!!! what in the world! I need book 2 now!!
