Some flames can’t be extinguished…Jason Burkwell is all about the next adventure. Whether it’s an emergency call as lieutenant on Redwood Ridge’s fire department or a pretty woman between the sheets, he gets in and gets out. He has no interest in being trapped by anything or anyone. But when he’s manipulated into a charity auction for his station, something tells him he’s about to get hosed. … get hosed. Especially when the town matchmakers shove quiet, shy Ella Sinclair in his path. Constantly. Every encounter with the brown-eyed beauty makes him realize the simmering attraction and strange tug of emotion is beyond basic heat. Together, they’re combustible. If only he can figure out what she’s hiding…
Ella Sinclair’s been burned before, and she’s got the scars to prove it. Ever since her return to Redwood Ridge, she’s had more than a little crush on a certain gorgeous firefighter. Except Jason doesn’t know she exists. To trigger his memory would mean reliving the worst day of her life, and she’s worked hard to move past the pain. Venturing out of her safety zone is tough enough, never mind that hero worship leaves her with a horrible case of babbling-itis. Her heart’s becoming more engaged the longer they spend together, but his sudden interest can’t possibly last when he discovers she’s not the ideal image of perfection.

Residual Burn swept me away with its raw emotions, ranging from pain to passion, and all the feels in between. I loved this story, as much as I have loved the Redwood Ridge series from the beginning. I laughed, I wept, I sighed, I smiled – the characters are easy to relate to, they have real emotions, they are faulty, they are not perfect yet they are so perfect for each other, the way they balance each other took my breath away and kept me glued to my kindle.
The story is a delight to read, impossible to put down. It’s one of those stories that make you jump into an online store to check out what else the author has written… Loved it! The months-long reader’s slump is finally over!
I absolutely loved Residual Burn by Kelly Moran. We get to revisit Redwood Ridge with their wonderful residents, including The Battleaxes, who are on a mission to find someone for Jason Burkwell, a lieutenant in the Redwood fire department. They decide that Ella Sinclair, the new Kindergarten teacher is perfect for him, and get to work! They talk him into being in the Bachelor Auction at the Firemen Ball to raise funds for the department. Now they have to get Ella involved! She’s on the planning committee, and they trick her into having to deliver Jason’s tux fora fitting. Ella is shy and socially awkward, and has a really creative way of speaking. She doesn’t curse, so some of her substitutions for curse words are hilarious! Jason is charmed by her, and they begin to hang out. Ella has a tragic past. As a child, her parents were killed in a house fire that left her with extensive, disfiguring burns and resulted in Ella’s shyness, and awkwardness. Ella and Jason grow closer, but she holds back because of her scars, and a major truth that when Jason finds out about it, could ruin everything. Residual Burn is funny, emotional and haunting. and I highly recommend it!
“Damn, but she was adorable. he didn’t normally go for brunettes, especially chatty ones, but he might make an exception in this case.” Jason Burkwell is sunk. He loves to have a good time. A very casual good time with the women he dates. But Ella Sinclair was fascinating him way too much.
Ella never thought she would have any kind of conversation with Redwood Ridge’s hottie fireman, Jason. Here she is, discussing kittens, tuxes and bachelor auctions. She is definitely in the real life version of the Twilight Zone.
Matchmaking started this relationship, but the rest is just plain chemistry.
Kelly Moran hooked me so big with this one. I have loved this series from the start, but THIS book?? This book exceeds all of my expectations. The story is amazing. The connection the characters have is so authentic. I adore Jason and Ella so much!
Sit back for a sexy slow burn between Jason and Ella. Thrown together by the battleaxes they both vow there won’t be love but will they be proven wrong.
I loved Jason and Ella. They were polar opposites but were great together. Ella has a heart of gold and Jason is one sexy fireman. The relationship part of this book was great but what really got me was how broken each one of them was. Ms. Moran does a great job of writing two people that their past have defined their future. As Jason and Ella get to know each other can they fix the emotional scars?
A great romantic read with characters with so much depth.
Absolutely loved this one! Probably my favorite in the whole series. I mean, hardly anyone can resist a firefighter, let alone a firefighter helping an orphan kitten. Legit didn’t want this one to end!
This book is a beautiful story of coming full circle. The three matchmakers of Redwood Ridge better known as The Battleaxes are at it again in this sweet, emotional story of opposites attracting. You fall right away for Ella, who survived an awful house fire when she was eight years old. The fire killed her parents and left her with horrible physical and emotional scars. It also killed the firefighter who saved her life.
Jason Burkwell is a lieutenant for the Redwood Ridge Fire Department. He lost his dad, who was also a fire fighter. He has his own emotional scars he has kept hidden until he meets Ella and then he is willing to go on the greatest adventure of his life.
I really liked that Ella and Jason were able to tear down the emotional walls in each other and bring out the best in each other. I also enjoyed Ella’s nervous babbling and the dear antics of The Battleaxes with the cute kitten and the Bachelor Auction. The ending was absolutely perfect. I cannot wait to read the next book in this great series.
Truly a Fantastic story you’ll have to read on your own. I really don’t want to spoil it for anyone. I laughed and shed some tears. The characters both human and animals are full of surprises and have their share of heartbreaks, yet that’s what makes this all the more rewarding. This is the fourth book in the series but you can read it as a stand-alone. I recommend all of the books though, especially if your an animal lover. I read an Arc and my review was based solely on my opinion.
This was such a fantastic story. So much depth in of the main characters, that made their story so so real. Each having to deal with such tragedy when they were younger, and neither facing it full on for so many years. I had so many laugh out loud moments along with periods of sobbing. Such a wonderful installment of the series
I was so excited to hear that the Redwood Ridge series would be continuing!
Ella and Jason don’t seem like a good match at first glance. He is a firefighter who doesn’t do serious relationships. She is shy, often overlooked, and suffers from a bad case of babbling whenever he is around. However, it quickly becomes obvious that there’s a mutual attraction and something special between them.
They have each experiences in their childhoods that have left their mark that has lasted to adulthood. Their story is at times sad and heartbreaking, but ultimately is sweet, romantic, and uplifting.
This is a standalone book in the series, but I highly recommend reading the first three books as well!
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
I loved this story.
I’m really glad Kelly Moran wrote a new book for this series.I missed her wrods so much but as soon as I started to read Residual Burn it felt like to come back home.
Ella, is a shy kindergarten teacher, she thinks she is invisible for many of Redwood Ridge’s residents until the town matchmakers choose her to redeem the most eligible bachelor and handsome firefighter Jason.Their friendship start easily thanks to a cute kitten but day after day their relationship becomes more serious and Ella is frightened to lose Jason when she tells him her deepest secrets.
Will their feelings for each other be stronger than anything else?Or will Jason will go back to his one night stands routine?
Needless to say I strongly recommend to get this book as soon as possible.
I didn’t think this series could get better but man was I wrong. This story is so packed full of the entire gamut of emotions. I am not one to laugh or cry while reading and I did both multiple times with this story. Sooo good!
Ella is physically and emotionally scarred by a house fire that cost the lives of her parents and left her seriously burned. Jason is scarred emotionally by a fire that took the life of his firefighter father who was the Firefighter that saved Ella’s life. The Battleaxes decided to set up Jason and Ella. Jason is a type of guy who doesn’t want to do relationships but, when Ella has to take a tux to him for a Bachelor auction he got roped into he becomes friends with Ella. Ella ends up going with Jason to get cat supplies for the cat Jason ended up. Sometime into their friendship they start to get close and start to have a real relationship. Ella tried several time to tell Jason about his dad being the one who saved her in the fire but, Jason kept shutting her down. Then one day Ella takes Jason for a drive and decided she wanted to tell Jason the truth about the passing of his dad. Did Ella tell Jason the truth? What happens between Jason and Ella? Well you need to get this book and read it to find out. This is a very good and heartwarming book. Beautifully written!! I totally loved it!!
What a wonderful and impassioned book! Ella is physically and emotionally scarred by a house fire that took the lives of her parents and left her seriously burned. Jason is scarred emotionally by a fire that took the life of his firefighter father. The awkwardness between them was at times frustrating, mostly because it felt so real. But what started as an awkward foray into friendship becomes an emotional journey into love. Heartbreaking and heartwarming, laughter and tears – an excellent read!
A Thousand and Twenty-Nine Reasons Why
“The Battleaxes, as Cade had once named his mother and two aunts, were meddling busybodies who ruled the town with an iron fist, oatmeal cookies, and a side of matchmaking. They’d set up countless couples over the years and didn’t compute the meaning of the word no. Jason had done his level best to stay off their radar.” – Jason
The Battleaxes have a new victim in their sights: Jason Burkwell. He needs a woman in his life, and his new kitten doesn’t count! And… they have the “purrfect” venue in mind: The Bachelor Auction to help raise funds for the Redwood Ridge Fire Department at the annual Firefighter’ Ball!
“Jason wasn’t just good-looking. No, no. Nope. If the gods of Gorgeousness and Charm and Sexiness had a threesome, Jason Burkwell would’ve been the resulting love child.” – Ella Sinclair
Ella Sinclair was forgettable; often people didn’t even realize she was in the same room with them, and that was fine with Ella. But this time, Ella is the one who forgot: forgot to pay attention! Ella finds herself volunteered to deliver a tux to Jason Burkwell, the lieutenant at the Redwood Ridge’s fire department. Jason had agreed to participate in a fund-raising event: the Bachelor’s auction, and Ella was tasked with delivering his tux… Plain, forgettable, painfully shy Ella… And he didn’t realize the painful, devastating history that they shared….
“You look like a Photoshopped version of Thor with Iron Man’s flirtation skills and Captain America’s values.”- Ella to Jason
“She was adorable. He didn’t normally go for brunettes, especially chatty ones, but he might make an exception in this case. She’d interrupted his irritation meltdown earlier and had replaced it with one laugh after another. He doubted she even knew she was one helluva welcomed distraction. She seemed the completely-unaware-of-her-sexiness type of woman.” – Jason
Long dark hair, bronze skin, amber eyes… And curves… Oh, those curves! Jason is smitten at first sight. But he’s a commitment-phobe.., and he can sense that Ella is a forever kind of girl. Jason is determined to keep his distance and his desires in check.
But Fate (or maybe the Battleaxes) have different plans for these two, as the local tweets “Word on the Street” account is on fire with suggestions of a romance brewing between Jason and Ella…
“Crab buckets. No. It couldn’t be. Jason had more experience than 007 in his prime. Ella had…none. Absolutely zero. He was sexy and suave and smooth. She was clumsy and awkward and invisible. That was the key…invisible.” – Ella
““You can. Be a rebel, Ella. It’s in there somewhere, that naughty side who wants to break the rules.”” – Jason to Ella
Can a self-conscious, scarred curvy girl win the heart of a dedicated commitment-phobe, or will she be destined to live her life alone once he discovers her shame- filled secrets?
Riveting! Residual Burn grabs you from the first sentence and doesn’t let go! Happiness and sorrow, regrets and redemption, and love… Love that overcomes all obstacles.
“Love is the ultimate adventure, the greatest risk. There’s no assurance or safety net.”
