This is a very intricate plot and a very slow burn. I thought the plot was great and the author, who is new to me, did a great job in writing it. The characters are complete opposites, financially and in personality and yet they are also attracted to each other.

Rudi’s having a really tough time in her life, and decides it’s not worth going on. She steps out in front of a moving car, and wakes up in the hospital. Denver feels awful about the accident, and stays at the hospital to make sure she’s okay. When he learns that she’s homeless, he takes her to his house to recuperate rather than let her be dumped back out on the street. After a few days, he stops waiting on her, and expects her to begin to pull her weight. She’s not prepared for his rules. Or his discipline. Or maybe she is. Eventually, they are honest with each other – he opens up about what happened to his wife, and she explains why she’s on the streets. I wasn’t sure about this book when I started, but I really ended up liking the story. I particularly enjoyed how Rudi came to like to push Denver’s buttons and break the rules (and why).

I struggled to read this book. I kept waiting for it to get better. There seemed to be no chemistry between Rudi and Denver. They won’t tell each other their secrets and Rudi just wants a place to stay. I don’t know how Denver feels, it is never mentioned. I just wanted more feeling from both of them. That being said, the concept is wonderful and I hope the author goes back and revives it.
I enjoyed this sweet story. Both characters were somewhat broken, and loaded with secrets from the past. The process was slow, but I enjoyed seeing the characters find healing in each other. The blend of romance and drama was nice and the story flowed well. This was my first book by this author and I look forward to reading more from her in the future.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was fast-paced and kept my interest until the very last page. Rudi may come off as young and innocent but she is anything but that and Denver is strong, handsome, opinionated, and a widower with alot of guilt from his past. There is good character development and a plot line that is interesting and beautifully written and engaging.

As an Australian it’s always interesting when I read a book set in Australia with Australian characters. I never know what my reaction is going to be. Mostly, I enjoyed this book (apart from the fact that it’s extremely doubtful that an Australian would ever call their child Denver!). It was easy to read & a pleasant time filler for a few hours. It wasn’t a great indepth novel but just left me with a happy glow. I did feel that with all of the build up about Rudi it ended quite suddenly & overly simply. Overall though, worth the read.
