Wow, what a great beginning! I’ve had Jacquie Nelson’s historical romance “Saving Raven” for some time, but I’ve been head down with my own writing project and just picked up the books today – and I’m impressed.
No spoilers here, just admiration of a smooth, skilled writer.
Jacqui Nelson has done an amazing job of worldbuilding this historical novel set in the Dakota Territory in 1876. The historical setting is revealed to the reader in a natural fashion, without interrupting the flow of the story. The characters are believable and come to life on the page as the story progresses, and the dialogue rings true.
I’m especially like that the author writes with cultural sensitivity, indicating that Raven is a member of the Dakota tribe subtly without pointing fingers. Top points for writing for inclusivity!
This is the 4th book in the author’s “Lonesome Hearts” series, and as soon as I finish it, I’m heading to my online bookstore to buy the rest of the series.

This is a very quick read. I enjoyed how Raven and Charlie felt comfortable together from the start. They trusted each other and acknowledged their attraction and rightness from the start. With some danger around them, they found safety and love as they rode off into the sunset.
I received an ARC from the author, and this is my unsolicited review.
This is a short story in the Lonesome Hearts Series. It is about a Native American woman and a white man both looking for causes to help. She wants to help her people and he would help anyone in need. Both could save each other.
It’s a story written just for them coming off another story in this Lonesome Heart series.) This is short just to tell about them.
This is s good fast story that works even if you didn’t read the book it came from, but this is where the HEA is. I loved this short story and you will too. Read Between Heaven and Hell to read about Charlie as a young man and when he first saw Raven. This this story makes a bit more sense but either way Rescuing Raven is the story between her and Charlie as adults. Highly recommend.
I’ve really enjoyed this series and all the characters. I loved Raven and Charlie’s story. This last book is a short story and is about a grown-up Charlie from book one. An interesting read.
I received this story as an ARC
I really enjoyed this story about Charlie and Raven. It was very short, but managed to fill the reader with history and a great story with adventure. This is the 4th book I have read by Jacqui Nelson and I have yet to be disappointed or bored with her books. I highly recommend this story and all of her work.
A book in the Lonesome Hearts series is well written, it is a short fast story to read. Charlie and Raven meet at a time when it was hard for them to be together. This story grabbed my interest from the first page and did not let go until the end. A book I recommend.
This short story is beautifully written and lets the reader feel the palpable heart beat of the Hero and Heroine. Charlie and Raven meet at one of the most difficult times in American History. The settling of the US West and the slow demise of the Native American Nations. I shed tears each time I read about this time in our History. Two hearts meet and instant attraction abounds. Can Charlie and Raven overcome the fear and anger of this time and release their love for each other? Don’t pass this short story by. You will Not be disappointed.
This is a short story that will no doubt get you more interested in the adventures in the Lonesome Hearts Series. Thanks for a quick read about a simple man, Charlie, as he rescued an Indian gal named Raven.
Rescuing Raven is a brand new release, and a great short story introduction to Jacqui Nelson’s worlds of gritty, western romance! This one revolves around a brave Lakota heroine and a hired gun with the heart of a hero.
A sweet and romantic story!
‘Rescuing Raven’, written by talented author Jacqui Nelson, is part of the ‘Lonesome Hearts’ Series. We met the male character Charlie in one of her previous stories. It’s short but so romantic!
Destiny brings Charlie and Raven together only to soon pull them apart. However, their paths cross again and give them a second chance to really know each other better. Is love in the air for those two lovebirds?
Loved getting to catch up with an adult Charlie Jennings (who we first met in one of my favorite Oregon Trail stories: Between Heaven and Hell) and seeing how he grew up. With a handful of excitement and a dash of suspense and a heaping dollop of sweetness, I was whisked away into an endearing story, falling in love with Charlie and Raven as they found, rescued, and claimed the other.
This is a delightful addition to Jacqui Nelson’s Lonesome Hearts series.
