One of Susan Stoker’s best, the end of a series. Completely stand alone, but to get the most from it, start at the beginning of the series with Rescuing Rayne, Delta Force Heroes. Excellent story line and characters.
What makes a runaway hit show or movie? The writer’s ability to continue the characters’ thoughts and feelings across multiple story lines. That right there is the reason why serial novels are booming, and readers are voraciously searching the net for more. We want to know what happens next; dare say, we NEED to know. Susan has created a world that crosses over into other worlds (and other writers’ worlds!) that keep you hanging on for more.
It’s about time Mary & Truck’s story came out. I had it read within a couple hours of release, and it was almost everything you could wish for. The only thing – and it’s not a negative – is the ending. There were small cut scenes set in the future showing various members of the Delta Force team’s lives. I was left wanting to know why – and just what is Susan up to.
I was a little unsatisfied with the length of the story – I wanted more so it should have been longer! That said, it was immensely satisfying to finally get inside Mary’s head and find out what made her so bristly. It was easy to see the character progression of Mary to the point you believe she has to take that leap of faith and believe, and what happens when she does. You’re right there with both Mary & Truck as they navigate their challenges, rooting for them even when you know they’re already getting their HEA.
This nicely wrapped up the Delta Force storylines and set the stage for Susan’s next blockbuster. Solidly written, and worth the wait.
PS: Congrats to Susan on making the USA top 20 and NYT top 10 within days of release.
This was a great book. Having see someone suffer through chemo treatments once is very difficult, but twice is very hard. You keep smiling no matter how bad it gets to keep those suffering from knowing how much you are suffering with them.
Now I need to reread the whole series from start to finish.
