Cassandra Dean’s “Rescuing Lord Roxwaithe”
is a delightful story
Lydia was a newborn when Oliver, Earl of Roxwaithe, a fourteen year old boy held her in his arms for the first time. Watching her grow up and having her follow him around all her life was natural and she always looked up to him and loved him knowing that one day when she grew up she would marry him. Oliver always thought that he was too old for her and that she would outgrow it. When Lydia was 18 she kissed him and professed her love for him. Oliver rebuffed her. Crushed, she resolved to go to the continent where she could learn the art of flirting and grow into a woman that Oliver couldn’t refuse. Boy did she!
Oliver and Lydia are both likable. I loved Lydia’s spunk and determination, she knew her heart and and deep down she knew Oliver’s heart too. I can almost understand Oliver’s reservations too but sometimes we have to face losing something to realize just how valuable it truly is. I do wish the couple had had more heartfelt conversations. I did however enjoy the story. It was was a charming story with lots of heartfelt emotion.
Thanks Ms. Dean for this sweet romance.
Excellent Start of Showing, Not Telling
I read and review a lot of fiction, and one thing that drives me absolutely crazy is info-dumping as we meet each viewpoint character. So I was absolutely delighted by the way the author started this book. She literally shows us brief but key scenes in the couple’s relationship, starting with the heroine’s birth. These scenes aren’t long—usually just a handful of paragraphs—but they take place at key moments in the hero’s life. So, by the time we get to the part of the book where they could have an adult romance leading to marriage, we have a deeper understanding of them and their relationship. I wish more authors took such creative tacks! Their romantic arc has some twists and turns because he considers himself far too old for her, even though he has had a long and abiding affection for her, but there has been no one else for her. Will they find their way to an HEA? You’ll have to read this well-written book with excellent characters to find out.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
I liked this book a lot! I’ve read other books by Cassandra, so I decided to give this one a try. It was a sweet story with nice characters; however, they didn’t really connect with me for some reason. The dialogue was well-written and added to this story. Yet, I still enjoyed this romance. It was steamy but still sweet and swoon-worthy. The writing was smooth and drew me in even though I didn’t really connect with it. I would still recommend this and am excited to read more from Cassandra!
This is the second book in the Lost Lords series. Oliver and Lydia knew each other since childhood. Oliver was 14 and Lydia only a few days old when they first met. As they grew they became closer, so close that Lydia was in love with Oliver and sure she wanted to marry him when she was old enough. When she turns 18, she shows him how she feels and because of their age gap, that freaks him out – even though he has the same feelings for her. There is no denying these two have a strong connection. Though Oliver tries his best to resist Lydia, she tries even harder to get him to understand how perfect they are for each other and belong together. Ms. Dean has done a great job of weaving a delightful tale with wonderful characters. This was a very captivating story that had me hooked all the way through. A wonderful addition to the series- looking forward to the next installment!

Rescuing Lord Roxwaithe is the second book in the Lost Lords series. I really enjoyed this sweet Regency romance. Olivia and Lydia are likable and charming. Will she be able to win him over or will he end up losing her to another?
I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.
The second book in the Lost Lords series a well written story with a very good storyline. Oliver, Earl of Roxwaithe, and Lady Lydia Torrence’s story she was one strong willed woman who knew who she wanted. An older man/younger woman story that I enjoyed reading. Lydia knows her heart belongs to Oliver, it always has. It is Oliver who needs convincing. I love the way the prologue is written. “Oliver was ________ years, ________ months or ______days old when…..” and then there is the event or emotion attached to that age/time. It is a clever and intimate way of, not only introducing the reader to Oliver, but having the reader become invested in his life and happiness. There are moments when my heart was breaking for both Oliver and Lydia, and truly wondered if they were going to have their happy ending. This is a new author for me, and I look forward to reading more of her captivating stories.

Finding true love takes time and patience to be exposed
This is my first book by Cassandra Dean and it is a terrific regency romance. It is the second in Ms. Dean’s “Lost Lords” series. The plot grabs and holds the reader’s interest immediately from the first page. The characters are very real and the situations and emotions are heartfelt and wonderfully entertaining. Since some of the characters in this book are also in the 1st book of the series, I can’t wait to read “Finding Lord Farlsle”. I highly recommended it.
Lady Lydia Torrence has known Oliver Farlisle, Earl of Roxwaithe (who is 14 years her senior) for all her life and has made it known that she and Oliver were to be wed. After her debut at 18, she declared her love for Oliver and is patiently waiting for his betrothal. Oliver tells her it is only a crush and refused a proposal, so she spent a year on the Continent attempting to forget about him. After her return from the continent, Oliver discovers that she has grown into a “woman” and she still wants him. Lydia attempts flirtation with a suitor to change her mind but is unsuccessful and she put Oliver’s “only friendship’ to the test. The story ends with Oliver’s discovery that he really does lover her and ends with an HEA. I suggest that you don’t miss this one.

A pure pleasure to read.
I downloaded this from Hidden Gem and it is very much a gem of a book. I loved the characters, Oliver is older than Lydia and so it is understandable why he thinks her love for him is just a crush. Things do change when she returns home. She is a full-grown woman now and others are taking notice. Great flow to the story and along with outstanding chemistry this was a pure pleasure to read. I hope you check this one out. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
He has known her since she was little. When she got a little older she told him she was going to marry him someday. He feels a connection to her too but is older than her and wants her to do better than him. She knows what she wants but goes off for awhile and then comes back. It is exciting, emotional, suspenseful and so much more. I love a story that grabs your attention and keeps it while you go on a great adventure. I received a review copy and voluntarily review it.
I did enjoy the book but I felt there were unexplained parts. For instance the I could not figure out where the epilogue came from as had nothing to do with the story or if it did I cou not find the connection. It left a lot of things pert to Stephen like loose threads unexplained along with that young lady no one liked that Stephen was arguing with. She was another enigma. Due to all that I gave it a two as I felt the story wasn’t told completely and I had a hard time und some thins be au of it
3.25 STARS
I enjoyed the beginning when the H – age 14, holds the h as a newborn, he felt a connection the baby. The family have been friends for years and you can get to each other’s homes through the attic. Comes in handy near the end.
The story line became repetitive and my feelings for the H dwindled as the story progressed. You will hear over and over, I’m too old, you’re too young. The only suspense, was the H going to let someone 5 years younger than he marry the h? Then, when the H finally comes to his senses, the h plays hard to get.
There is an epilogue that adds nothing to the story because it isn’t about our H/h at all, but totally different people that had nothing to do with this story.
Lovemaking outside of marriage, heat level 5 out of 5 and described once.
I read the first of the series and the middle brother is missing. The h’s sister goes looking for him and finds him after 11 years. In this story, he is still missing and the h’s sister leaves to discover him (but she found him in book 1)!!! I remember reading story 1 and commenting I wanted to know how the older brother reacted when his brother was finally found. Well, we find out in this one. Part of story 1 is dumped into this story. Made this one more confusing if you read book 1 first.
No cheating, an epilogue that adds nothing to the story, this story ends abruptly – yes we get HEA. The epilogue would have been nice about the couple in this story, and we have steam.
I received this book from bookfunnel. All opinions are my own and voluntarily given. (ljb)
ONE REFRESHING JOURNEY
Fascinating! Cassandra throws caution to the wind, takes no prisoner’s, no turning back and no holds barred attitude, rocks this jewel from start to finish, serving up some tough decisions, hard choices and relentless drive, blasting this baby to life brilliantly. A tumultuous vortex chocked-full of arduous struggles and heart pounding triumphs, observing the dramatic twists and stilted turns, clocking the adorable quirks and defying bents, propelling this jewel to staggering heights. Anarchy, escapades and mayhem rule the roost, dissolving restrictions and relaxed limitations are amplified and explored, drawing deep for every ounce of strength in a fierce surge of determination, showcasing the soaring ups and agonizing downs, flawless in it’s simplicity and beautiful in it’s depth, melding this gem together seamlessly. The attraction and chemistry collides with such force, baring profound emotions and undeniable adoration, drawing our characters closer, binding them together perfectly. The characters, dialogue, interactions and charged atmosphere along with relatable qualities and individual traits add depth and diversity, transforming them into lovable personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and vivid descriptions creating an elaborate backdrop that makes the storyline explode. Fantastic job Cassandra, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.
I love when a book grips me and guides you on an heart-stopping journey filled with unexpected twists that holds your full attention to the very end and Rescuing Lord Roxwaithe does just that! Cassandra Dean has given readers a book that is well-written, filled it with head-strong individuals that come to life as you find yourself drawn into their story, great dialogue and with an excellent plot that bring this read together perfectly! “I’m going marry you whe I grow up,” young Lydia tells Oliver, who is fourteen years her senior. Two stubborn souls clash and sparks fly as the story unfolds beautifully with drama, sensual awakenings, trials and tribulations, and uncertainties make this one outstanding read that you won’t want to miss! I am looking forward to reading Stephen’s tale.
Awesome story. I can’t wait for Stephen’s story. I am new to this author and can’t wait to read more of her books.
Rescuing Lord Roxwaithe is the second book in the Lost Lords series. The book was interesting, and the characters were great. Oliver, Earl of Roxwaithe, has known Lady Lydia Torrence since she was born. She was always by his side as she grew up. She told everyone they would marry when she got older. Oliver always felt so much older even though he was only 14 years older, but he was convinced she had a childhood crush for him. When she turned eighteen and had her come-out she was heartbroken when he told her he only had feelings for her as a brother would. She left for the Continent and stayed away for over a year. Oliver felt her absence but when she returned, he still denied his feelings. Can she convince him that she knows her own feelings?
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Oliver thinks he’s too old for Lydia. Fourteen years is a big difference, but Lydia has told him since she was a child that one day she would marry him. Oliver is a tough nut to crack, even when he sees he could lose her. A lonely man, he refuses to believe in love until the return of someone close convinces him to hold on to what he wants. It took him long enough! Love the epilogue!
Sometimes an attraction when young can become a true love. That is if one party did not fight it and that is what Oliver, Earl of Roxwaithe had done. Having watched his neighbor, Lydia be born and grow up had just been part of his life. She had attached herself to him at a young age and they had been friends, although there was a 14 year difference.
But when she was 18 and declared she loved him, he pushed her away. Oliver had not had the best of lives growing up. With an absent father and a brother dying, he and his sibling had grown up at Lydia’s house and he relied upon her father for so much, especially when he came into the Earldom.
Now, Lydia was back from the continent and taking the Ton by storm. How could he endure it? Yes he really did care about her but felt it was not appropriate.
Fortunately, fate has other ideas and this was a wonderful story seeing these two struggle to come together and have their happy ever after. Adored this story!
Oliver, Earl of Roxwaithe, has always regarded Lady Lydia Torrence as a sibling even as she’d declared one day they would wed. Fourteen years her elder, Oliver was convinced Lydia felt only a crush and when she inevitably declared her love when she was eighteen, he had to refuse. Lydia had always known she loved Oliver and he loved her. Oliver is stubborn in his resolve until a new suitor for Lydia puts Oliver’s resolve to the test.
This is the second book in the series & whilst it could be read on its own the time frames do overlap so I’d recommend reading them in order. I read this book immediately after reading Alex’s story & I’m now impatiently waiting Stephen’s story, I’ve found another must read author. I loved both Oliver & Lydia even though I wanted to shake Oliver several times. The chemistry between the pair was always there & they knew each other so well & were definitely soul mates. A well written novel that drew me in from the first page & their first meeting when Lydia was three days old to the lovely epilogue.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Rescuing Lord Roxwaithe by Cassandra Dean is book Two in the Lost Lords Series. This is the story of Oliver, Earl of Roxwaithe and Lydia Torrence. I haven’t yet read the previous book, so for me this was a standalone book. Lydia has always loved Oliver since she was young but he is 14 years older and a friend of the family. So he has placed her in the little sister box but when she is of age she tries to show her feelings but he rebuffs her which of course hurts her. But she does end up leaving to advance herself to make her more of a alluring women that hopefully will open his eyes. A few years later she is back and of course Olive tries to deter her and his feelings but then someone else shows interest in her which starts to open Olives eyes to his true feelings.
Enjoyed their story.
