All he wants is someone he can trust. All she wants is to belong. But when compromising circumstances force them together, do they have a chance at finding love?Silas Riley, Earl of Inglewood, is known among his peers in Parliament as the man made of stone. As a wealthy peer, there are few he trusts with his friendship. He guards his heart and his honor with vigilance, and when an accident nearly … vigilance, and when an accident nearly takes his life, he’s faced with a situation which threatens his standing in society.
Growing up in the shadow of her older brother, Esther Fox’s acceptance in his circle has been indifferent at best. So when she ends up in a compromising situation as she saves the life of her brother’s dearest friend, the Earl of Inglewood, she is forced to marry him to save her own reputation. Once again, she finds herself accepted only because of the situation, and not because she is truly wanted.
Neither are prepared for a loss which further complicates their new relationship. With such a difficult beginning, can they ever hope to understand one another, let alone find love?

I loved the beginning of this series. It was able to introduce the different friends in a way that didn’t bog the story down. I could feel the emotions of the h. I thought the process of the h & H coming together was natural. The H was high handed and I liked how he came to himself so to speak. There were a couple of good twists and the book held my interest to the end. I liked the seeds or hints of future story lines/romance.
So this one was recommended through Bookbub, and I think it may have been one of the cutest sweet Regency romances I’ve ever read! This was one of those books I inhaled in one sitting! This little band of friends made you want to go back to your own childhood clubhouse! I will be looking for more Sally Britton to read!!
I absolutely loved Rescuing Lord Inglewood. It is a sweet story of a marriage that came about because of Esther’s actions that were unladylike, rather than because of love. However, Esther and Silas were childhood friends, almost, and a sweet chemistry forms between them. I truly enjoyed this clean romance.
This was a really good read!! Reminds me of the old Harlequins from the late ’70’s. I felt empathy for Esther, and there were a few times I’d like to have smacked Silas upside the head!! There’s a couple of surprise twists, but everything comes out great in the end. A really good read!! I’ll definitely go back and read it again!
Esther Fox just happened to be in the right place at the right time and willing to harm to her body and her reputation when she saved Silas, Lord Inglewood from a falling statue. I was surprised after rumors and bets about them were circulating in London that he didn’t propose to her then to save her reputation. After all she saved his life. Instead he sent her away to hide in the country. It wasn’t until she fell in a brook and he carried her back to a country picnic that he decided to marry her. She does act childish at times and her moods fluctuate, but he also makes decisions without consulting her which her family has done her entire life including abandoning right after they marry and running back to London. I thought it was sweet that he decided to court her since he wasn’t given the opportunity to before marrying her. I would love to read the romances about the rest of Silas’s childhood friends in the Silver Birch Society.
This is one of those can’t put down – read in one day – kind of books!
Esther was the unwanted little sister who always tried to follow her brother and his friends around. After gossip surrounding her reputation, she is forced to marry one of those friends but still feels like the unwanted little sister.
Silas is the stone faced Earl who tries to hide his emotions and only cares about doing his duty. He does a lot of things because he feels he is protecting someone, yet he never explains his reasons. As an Earl, he is also used to giving commands and expects to be obeyed.
Silas and Esther both make a lot of mistakes along the way, and they don’t do a great job of communicating with each other. They both have very real feelings and emotions, and I enjoyed seeing them learn more about each other.
There were some predicable things in the book which I will not spoil, but it was still a great book.
I am fairly new to the author Sally Britton. I found that I really liked her complex characters and her style of writing. I look forward to reading more from her.
Grace Everly’s story is next. Discovering Grace comes out in August, and I already have it on preorder. 🙂
I loved this book! I think I can safely say it is my new favorite that has been written by Sally Britton. And I love all of her books, but this one just has such powerfully good characters. They are so well written as is their story. There are some great and unexpected twists and turns in this story! And as always with this wonderful author it is clean, the romance is sweet, and there is a happy ending. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves clean and wonderful romance!
I received a complimentary copy of the book. All opinions are my own and are expressed voluntarily.
Wow, I don’t know if I’m extra emotional right now or what, but I cried several times throughout this book. If you are a boob like me, you may want some tissues handy. What a great start to a new series. I loved the characters in this story and can’t wait to read all their stories. Esther is such a wonderful character who has struggled with love and feeling left out/behind most of her life. Silas is also such a strong character who is often misjudged and wants so badly to understand his wife. This was a beautiful marriage of convenience story.
I think I may have identified a bit too much with the main character – my love language is to be prioritized, put first in at least some of the time. She felt she came in second (or third, or last) with everyone, and for the most part she was right. The way the author wrote the story, the way it was never on purpose but still hurt her, and the graceful way she accepted it (until she broke) was beautiful. And the reasons he didn’t HEAR her were valid, too. It’s a story about two complex people learning to finally speak the same language, and I loved it.
Clean, with some kissing.
Soooo good! Regency is my favorite genre and this story was superb! The emotions were running high in many directions with this one-just the way I like it! This was a great character couple-I appreciated how they went through so much to realize their worth, value and love. Seriously LOVED IT!!!

Rescuing Lord Inglewood is a well-written Regency romance. I found Silas and Esther to be sympathetic characters that are very likable. They both had good motives but had difficulties communicating the reasons behind their actions. They were childhood acquaintances, and their re-introduction as adults was dramatic. The plot has twists and turns and moves along at a good pace. I have enjoyed everything that I’ve read by Sally Britton and plan to read whatever she publishes. I would highly recommend this book to historical romance readers and to clean/wholesome romance readers. I received an ARC. I chose to write a review and share my opinion of this sweet romance.
I have enjoyed all of Sally Britton’s books and so it is no surprise that I loved this one too. I like her writing style. This story was full of angst since both the main characters were broken or flawed in ways that prevented them from seeing life as it truly was. Esther saw her life through a lens that made her believe no one wanted her, treated her as a burden and opening her heart would leave her vulnerable. Silas’s lens was that it was his duty to take things in hand, make good decisions and maintain his honor at all costs. Neither could see each other’s view point clearly and thus we have serious conflict in a marital relationship. He doing what is best for her and she feeling treated like a child or his subject rather than his partner in marriage.
I don’t always enjoy lots of angst in a book. I judge how good the story is by my reaction to it. Did it make me roll my eyes, or did it make me want to throttle characters who couldn’t see clearly? If it makes my emotions highly involved in the story then it is good. In this book I wanted to throttle both main characters. “Noooo, tell her why you are doing that!” “Noooo, tell him how you feel!” In other words, I was made to care about these people. I wanted them to choose better so they could reach their happily ever after. But we had to have some angst before we could get to that point. I found myself choked with emotion at some points in the story. I could feel the characters’ pain and wanted to cry right along with them.
This story is an example of how difficult it would be to be a woman in this time period where fathers, brothers and husbands made decisions for women and not always to their benefit. I have a hope inside that there were many men who learned as Silas did that women could and should be consulted in decision making. Reading stories that show that progress helps me believe that it happened in real life too.
No sex, language or violence
I love when the couple is forced to marry and everything turns out so well. This was a fun book for me to read. I had a hard time putting it down. This is the start of another awesome series by Britton. I got to know each of the new characters and I am already excited to read their stories. This is about 2 lonely people who get to grow and learn after they are propelled to marry by the culture of the time. It was so well written. I especially loved how it ended:}
I only discovered Sally within the last year, oh but what a happy day that was. Once again she has written a wonderful clean romance. I won’t tell you what happens but I encourage you to give this book a try. I began reading this book a couple days ago and have loved it so much. It is a quick read and with being in bed due to surgery it has brought me some relief from my own physical pain as I was able to step from this world an into the world of Inglewood
Rescuing Lord Inglewood: A Regency Romance by Sally Britton is the start of a new series, “Inglewood”.
Well written, with engaging characters, the plot is powerful, compelling and intriguing. A fantastic, clean Regency Romance.
I enjoyed the characters, they were realistic and believable. This story will keep you turning pages as you follow, Silas Riley, Earl of Inglewood, the man made of stone, and Esther Fox, they were made for each other.
A poignant and captivating story. I found myself invested in these characters and story. Strongly recommended!

This was both fun and heart breaking as you wonder how many relationships lack real communication. A simple act of heroism leads to complications we are unable to understand today. Esther understandably sees Silas’s actions through her feelings of always being cast aside or left behind. Silas has always been alone and unused to explaining his actions. This leads to an uncomfortable marriage. Sally Britton has brought a good plot with very interesting characters. I hope to hear more about the rest of the Silver Birch Society members.
I finished this book in 2 days! Need I say more? I love Sally’s books and really enjoyed the start to a new series. As always a great clean regency romance! I think I felt every emotion with Esther reading this book. Sally is so good at capturing and describing emotions, things I felt in my youth that I had forgotten! This book was especially poignant to me as my father in law unexpectedly passed away a few weeks ago. I have never lost someone so close to me and Sally does a great job expressing the feelings of grief I have recently experienced. I can’t wait for the love stories of the other members of the silver birch society!
I loved this book. I have read one other of Sally’s books but haven’t yet finished any others. This is the first in a new series of hers. I laughed, I cried many a tear, and I ignored many other things I needed to be doing to finish this book. Although part of the plot was predictable I appreciated it. We got to see part of the thoughts of the main characters of Esther and Silas even though I think we got to see Esthers emotions the most. But I could relate to her fears, her pain, her sorrow, and even her joy. Silas and Esther’s relationship didn’t start the way a typical relationship would. There marriage started on less than ideal ground. But I enjoyed there journey.
Such a phenomenal read! Sally Britton does not disappoint, this story will capture your heart. The characters are warm and endearing pulling you into the pages of the story. I did not want the book to end, my emotions were on a roller coaster ride. If you like curling up with a exceptional book that will meet all your expectations then you must read Rescuing Lord Inglewood!
Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
The story was wonderful. The pacing, the rise and decline of emotional intensity and sweetness, all of it was perfect!
I definitely recommend this one!
Oh, have tissues at the ready!
