Growing up an only child, Silas has been alone most of his life. Being a wealthy peer, he has had to guard his honor at all cost. Most look at him and see a man made of ice and stone. But underneath the mask lies a lonely man who wants what all his closest friends have, someone he can trust and come home to at the end of the day.
All her life, Esther has lacked the feeling that she belongs. She sees herself has a burden, as baggage to be passed from one relative to the next. No one ever asks her for her opinion or what she wants to do. They make all the decisions for her as if she were a child. She has come to accept that this is her life, but it doesn’t make it any easier for her.
When Esther heroically saves Silas from a falling statue, they never dreamed the ton would look upon the event as Esther putting herself in a “compromising situation”. Esther is whisked off to the countryside in the hopes of saving her reputation. But when she and Silas find themselves in another “scandal”, the only thing that can save Esther from ruin is marriage.
While trying to adjust to their new life together, tragedy strikes and sends both of them reeling. Silas quickly realizes what is most important in his life… Esther. He will do everything in his power to help her see that they can weather any storm as long as they are together. He will help her to see past her insecurities and help her realize that everything she’s ever wanted is standing right in front of her. He will help her believe in love and happily ever afters.
Oh. My. Gosh. You guys! Can I just tell you how much I loved this book? Once I started it, I did not want to put it down. Nor did I want it to end! I absolutely adored Esther and Silas. I found myself rooting for them from the very beginning. Was it an easy road for them? Absolutely not. Their journey was filled with ups and downs and seeing how they faced it together, endeared me to them even more. The feels were most definitely real. By the time I finished the book, it felt like I had gone on an emotional roller coaster. I laughed, got teary eyed, felt hurt and anger, my heart broke and was mended back together, I let out little dreamy sighs and fell in love. If you are a lover of regency romance, I highly recommend this one! It was seriously amazing!
This is only the first book in the series, but I can already tell you that I am going to love all of them! I cannot wait for the next book to be released! I’m kinda bummed that we have to wait until August. This is one of those times I have to remind myself that writing takes time. I’m not very patient when it comes to book releases.. ;o) Hehe.
Ms. Britton has quickly become one of my favorite authors. I have loved all of her books I’ve read so far. There a few that I haven’t read yet and I’m thinking those need to get bumped up my TBR list. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next!

First in a great series
I really loved the depth of emotions in the characters throughout the story as well as how Silas coming to realization (way late) that Esther was not included in any decisions. I felt the ending was abrupt and didn’t finish the story. They were still courting and I felt I needed more to complete it.
Written with so much heart.
This was a lovely story and written with so much heart. Silas did not really understand Esther or what she had felt all her life. This did cause problems for them and my heart went out to these characters. Loved the twists and looking forward to any additional books with these characters or by Sally Britton. The author choosing of Marian Hussey was brilliant!
This Regency romance kept my attention from the first chapter. The characters were rich and deep, and the marriage of convenience trope has always fascinated me.
I rooted for all of the characters (except Neil). 😉 They were so real with flaws and beliefs based on lies or misunderstandings, which made their reactions absolutely believable, understandable, even expected. I love, love, love both Esther and Silas! I’m so happy that this series of characters will continue—Discovering Grace is already on my list to read next. And I will definitely be revisiting Silas and Esther’s story, which is my litmus test for whether I really love a book or not.
This one is an absolute winner!
Favorite quotes:
“But hearing her life planned out for her—without her consent—left Esther still more exhausted than before.”
“The dignified Earl of Inglewood, one of the most respected members of the House of Lords, only stopped laughing long enough to kiss his bride.”
This beautiful story conjured up the angst of having feelings for someone and wondering if it were really so, if it were true for both parties, and could it be a forever love. Esther has some ingrown emotional feelings about being loved for the wrong reason and/or being left after her heart is given. It is truly a battlefield of her mind as she tries to protect herself again. This relationship goes forwards and backwards through several events so you wonder just how Sally Britton is going to get her characters on the same page….and then, oh…..when she does the story is heart throbbing, sweet, beautiful and heaven all at the same time. I am now very deeply committed to her characters and this series….
This book is a beautiful, clean romance appropriate for teens and up. There is no bad language or overly descriptive intimate scenes.
This was such a fun book, it starts out with a laugh and you spend a portion of the book emotionally tormented for the protagonist. A must read for lovers of Regency.
This is the first book I’ve read (actually I listened to this) by Sally Britton and all I have to say is I’m a fan for life now. Everything about this book was wonderful. I urge all my romance reading friends to pick up this book. You won’t regret it, I promise.
The female lead was sad, weak and a little pathetic. For me, the story didn’t live up to the title.
This is without a doubt my absolutely favorite book of Sally Britton’s! I have listened to this one several times and am anxious to listen again! As usual, I love all of Sally Britton’s stories but I especially enjoyed this Audible version. It brings to life each of the characters, the settings, the atmosphere, and the feelings of them all. Of course the story that Ms Britton created only adds to the ambiance. I have a goal to read all of Ms Britton’s stories as the ones I have read and/or listened to so far leaves me with a great feeling of awe.

Good story – no sex
Loved it.
Rescuing Lord Inglewood is the perfect introduction to Sally Britton’s new series. This first installment presents the story of one Miss Esther Fox who will be forced to marry Silas Riley, Lord of Inglewood, thanks to her saving his life in a most unusual (and compromising) manner, as well as her ability to find herself in situations in need of rescuing thanks to her brother being away at war.
I loved every moment of this book, but I must say that had I not read Discovering Grace first, I don’t know if I would have liked/ feel more sympathetic towards Hope, since her forever impulsive manner isn’t exactly an endearing characteristic. That being said, I still plan on reading her book as soon as I finish writing her review.
Of course, a great part of my enjoyment of this book came to how fabulous Marian Hussey was as a narrator. My only complaint would be with Isaac’s voice, since it sounded a bit odd when it first appeared, though after a few minutes I didn’t notice anymore. So, notwithstanding this last bit, Marian managed to bring every character to life, and even to show their emotions through their voices when the story required her to (adoration, love, fear, sorrow…).
All in all, an excellent read or listen depending on which format the reader decides to go (you won’t go wrong with either).
An interesting series set in 1814 England. This author is new and refreshing to me. I’ve already started book #2.
Good read. Clean, entertaining romance with a rwist.
It’s not this was bad, it was just really slow and predictable. The heroine got on my nerves at one point with her woe-is-me, no one likes me attitude.
I enjoyed this book very much, it was a little different than most regency romances. Talk about a meet cute! Saving his life and then discovering that she knows him from childhood, this one starts off with a bang and just got better after that.
This was a really good story. Clean. Loved the characters. I enjoyed it.
