When you’re a Delta Force soldier, you see a lot. Often too much. But nothing can ever prepare you to see your entire team die before your eyes… Hartwell cares. In fact, she tries to surreptitiously make life just a little easier for the mysterious man who comes into the grocery where she works late at night, only to get a tongue lashing for her trouble. Still, he’s obviously hurting; someone has to worry about him, spurring Bryn to nurse Dane when he hits a particularly low point.
Intrigued by the quirky, kind, socially awkward woman, Dane allows himself to get close to someone for the first time in ages. A potentially epic mistake—because when her interest in the prepper lifestyle puts Bryn in the hands of a homegrown terrorist, losing her could put Dane’s mental recovery permanently out of reach.
But once a Delta, always a Delta. And there’s a team in Texas who are ready to have Dane’s back at a moment’s notice.

This book had me crying big fat tears by the end of CHAPTER ONE…… Wow!! This book was soooooo beautiful!! Susan Stoker has this amazing gift in that she brings real people to you through her stories….. you won’t find any perfect people having perfect lives….. it’s why I am so hooked on her books!! Dane is really struggling with the loss of his arm, the loss of his team and to add to that his PTSD isn’t giving him any breaks. Bryn is borderline Asperger’s and a genius with a HEART OF GOLD!! Their first meeting doesn’t make their future look so promising but what a beautiful, amazing, funny anxiety filled journey they take!! And Truck…. SOOOO can’t wait for his book….. This was an amazing read and I highly recommend it!!
I love Susan Stoker!
RESCUING BRYN is the sixth installment in Susan Stoker’s contemporary, adult DELTA FORCE HEROES military, romantic, suspense series. This is Delta Force veteran Dane ‘Fish’ Munroe, and Bryn Hartwell’s story line. RESCUING BRYN can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Many of the previous story line couples and characters cross-over for cohesion and familiarity.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Bryn and Dane) RESCUING BRYN follows the building relationship between Bryn Hartwell, and Dane Munroe. Like most of Susan’s heroines, Bryn Hartwell has issues that prevent her from moving forward. Bryn has Asperger’s Syndrome- a subtype of Autism-and in this our heroine struggles with societal norms including the propensity to blurt out UBIs (useless bits of information) and ramble incessantly in both normal and awkward situations. Working the night shift at the local grocery store, Bryn discovers a man she believes is a kindred spirit in Dane Munroe, a wounded war veteran whose late night excursions find our heroine ‘keeping watch’ over the man that seemingly calls to her heart until the night Dane lets loose on an unsuspecting Bryn. Several days will pass before Bryn will, once again, cross paths with Dane Munroe-a drunk Dane who does not recognize our story line heroine. What ensues is the building relationship between our leading couple, and a potentially threatening situation when Bryn’s curiosity pulls her in a dangerous direction.
Bryn Hartwell is a genius with Asperger’s tendencies. By the time she was sixteen years old, she had earned two undergraduate degrees, a graduate degree in physics, and had started on her PhD but our heroine’s lack of common sense is oft times a threat to her own safety. Dane Munroe not only lost his arm during his last mission in the Middle East to an IED but lost his entire team in the blink of an eye. Dane struggles with symptoms of PTSD and Bryn’s idiosyncrasies, like her curiosity with Dane, had our hero battling between his heart and his mind.
The relationship between Bryn and Dane begins acrimoniously. Dane believes our heroine is a threat to his safety but it is Bryn’s own curiosity and need to help that will force a face-to-face confrontation between our leading couple. The sexual situations are passionate; the $ex scenes are limited and intense.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including many of the previous story line characters and couples, as well as Dane’s rescuers Truck, Ghost, Fletch, Beatle, Blade and Hollywood.
The world building focuses on Bryn’s Aspergers’ syndrome. The author has done an outstanding job of not only researching the symptoms of Bryn’s disorder but there is also a vast amount of additional information revealed about the numerous subjects that our heroine finds intriguing. Bryn’s curiosity will take our heroine into territory where she does not belong.
RESCUING BRYN is a story of love and loss; friendship and healing; threats to the American way of life. The premise is sweet, seductive and sexy-Dane takes his time exploring his options with the woman that calls to his heart; the characters are charismatic, broken and colorful; the romance is endearing and seductive.
Susan Stoker has written another winning book!
Once I started reading this book I couldn’t stop. The story line is one that has you sad and happy all at the same time. It keeps your interest from page to page. Dane is suffering PTSD from having his whole team die in front of him and losing his arm. He moves to a small town to be away from people. Bryn is exceptionally intelligent and is always stating quirky facts. She notices small things Which sometimes can get her into trouble. Together they make an odd and unique pair. There is action, suspense, drama, romance and some humor. Bryn and Dane are both characters that you can’t help but fall in love with. I think this is a must read and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
I think this is the best Delta book yet.
Dane “Fish” Munroe lost more than his arm on his last mission; he lost his brothers. Thinking a move to Idaho and some isolation will help he’s dismayed to learn he’s not handling things any better.
Bryn Hartwell surreptitiously tries to make life easier for the mysterious man who shops where she works. Lashing out at her one night while shopping doesn’t stop Bryn from helping him.
What happens when a quirky genius and a scarred warrior get together? Pure magic that’s what. H/h we’re absolutely perfect together and the slow build to the romance was perfect for the characters and the story. Storyline flowed well and the snippets where Bryn started spewing facts we’re awesome. Visits from the Delta team were a bonus and Truck’s ongoing personal battle is upping my curiosity.
I love love love Bryn! I think she’s my new favorite heroine. She is quirky & honest & shy but not. And Dane is just swoony badass goodness. I thoroughly enjoyed their story!! And the sexy times were fun – because of how Bryn is, there is a LOT of banter (in the form of random facts) during the sexy times, and I loved the conversations they had & the messiness. ; )
I knew I was going to love this book from the first paragraph, and boy oh boy was I right! Dane is a combat injured veteran, and Bryn is on the autism spectrum (high functioning).
Bryn’s need to research and learn everything she can about a subject that piques her interest is so familiar to me. I adored her random facts and her need to learn. Dane is just as much of an Alpha as any of Susan Stoker’s heroes and is so sweet and wonderful to Bryn with all of her idiosyncrasies that he makes it easy to love him. The bad guys are truly horrible and the Delta Force guys are there when she needs help. I love getting to catch up with the characters from the other Delta Force books and find out what’s going on in their lives.
The writing, plot and romance are so well written. I’ve loved every single one of Susan’s books, and have already pre-ordered the next books that Susan Stoker has coming up. I’m definitely looking forward to the time to re-read them all again. I’d definitely recommend this book along with all of Susan’s other books to anyone looking for a kick-A$$ heroine and strong protective heroes.
The sixth book in the Delta Force Heroes series, Rescuing Bryn is the next installment in a great series. And although each can be read as stand alone novels, reading the series gives the reader a clearer picture of Ms. Stokers world. Featuring Dane “Fish” Munroe, who I first met in Marrying Emily, a “combat modified” vet who meets Bryn Hartwell, a girl with a genius IQ who is a little lacking in the common sense department. As a couple, they click, complimenting each other. As with all of Susan Stoker’s books there is a refreshing lack of senseless drama and the characters react much the way you would expect in the real world and I simply love all the random trivia that Bryn spouts when she’s nervous. This is a fast paced book that draws the reader in and hangs on till the last page.
(Rec. ARC for honest review)
Susan Stoker is the Author. Stella Bloom is the narrator. Stella does a great job (like always) narrating this book.
This is the 6th book in Susan Stokers Delta Force Series.
Dane Monroe was involved in a roadside bomb that not only killed his entire team, but also destroyed his arm. The Delta Team shows up and Truck saves Danes life. Dane’s sense of self was destroyed along with his arm, Truck shows up periodically, talking Dane out of his head. While talking with Truck on the phone one night, Dane notices some crazy stalker chick. He goes up to her, in true man fashion, and enters his foot into his mouth. Bryn Heartwell is the crazy stalker chick (she is a certified genius, that spouts out random facts as they hit her head). She has noticed him for awhile at the grocery store she works at. She tries to help him from the background. After he chews her out, she quits her job…for him.
After some minor drama, they end up getting together and Bryn gets fascinated with the Prepper Lifestyle. When Bryn gets into something, she can’t stop until she has learned it all. This fascination with the lifestyle leads her to get kidnapped. In true Susan Stoker style, Dane has no clue where to find her. He puts some clues together and figures out where she is.
Can he save her? Does he get his happy ending? Does he get his head out of his butt enough to figure out he needs her; that she makes him “normal”?
This book kicks butt! Once you start it, you’ll NEVER be able to put it down!!
