I received this book as an ARC and is the first book I have read by Ms Barnes. It was well written with lots of adventure, action, romance, twist and turns. The characters worked well together. Even though this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone book, although it would have been better if you have read the first book as this is a continued adventure. I will be reading more of Ms Barnes books. There were a few sex scenes and this reviewer skipped them as always and it didn’t affect my enjoyment of the book.
Book two in the Romancing the Spies series Raina LeClair and Charles Mallory’s story had me smiling it is I kidnap you, you kidnap me story. A fun read, with intrigue, suspense, drama, and danger. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Enjoyed the book even though it was a lot like a cat and mouse game. Raine is out for revenge on the person who killed her family and working as a spy at the same time. Charles is trying to find the one who kidnapped him and almost got himself killed. This book appears to have been a spin off of the first book, which I have not read and would probably fill in some of the gaps in this book. There were times when I was confused as to what was being noted but I think that was part of the first book that I had not read. There is a book coming that picks up where this one left off regarding Maxwell, who at times was a friend and others an enemy. I am still trying to figure out exactly what side he is on. Overall a good read but for me it would have helped reading the first book and then this one. I would still recommend it for a good read.
Rescued by the Spy by Laura A Barnes is the second book in her new series Romancing the Spies, and it was a fantastic romance that I couldn’t put down. Following the story of Raina LeClair and Charles Mallory, this story grabbed me from page one and didn’t let go until well beyond the last words. Raina wants nothing more than extract her revenge for the wrongs done to her family, and being the master of disguise that she is, she is willing to do anything to get to her final goal. But Raina did not expect Charles, she can’t seem to stay away from him, and trying to disguise her revenge plot is turning out to be harder than she realized. Charles is intrigued by Raina and the feelings that she invokes. She is nothing but a distraction that he doesn’t need but the treason plot that he is trying to suss out against the crown. When he finds himself wanting to keep her safe, to protect her; the connection that they start to ignite is enough to a burning desire neither of them were prepared for. Can Charles convince Raina of his love for her? Will she be able to trust Charles with her heart? Their lives may be in danger but working together they can be stronger than separate, being able to bring down a treasonous plot and bring together two hearts. Having read book one of the Romancing the Spies series, I couldn’t wait to read this book. While the books are in a series they can be read on their own. I highly recommend to read this series in order, as Barnes’ writing style will pull you in and make you want to read anything by her that you can get your hands on. I can’t wait to see where this series goes from here and I know that anyone who delves into this author’s writing will love it too.
Rescued by the Spy by Laura Barnes is book 2 in this series. This is another historical romance which I thoroughly enjoyed. I havent read a lot by this author, but I’m enjoying this series and will continue to read it. I like the character development, although chatacters can get a bit confusing at times. The book flows and is written Really well. This book gets fivestars from me. I will definitely continue to read books by this author including this series.
Rescued by the Spy is book 2 in the Romancing the Spies series by Laura A. Barnes. And boy oh boy is this one sexy, exciting, sexy, funny, heart breaking and even thought-provoking and did I say sexy?! Raina and Charles WOW! These two are hot. Hot alone and hot together. And then there is Maxwell…Oh Maxwell please be a good guy. His actions just leave you guessing. There are spies everywhere. It seems as if everyone is a spy but there is no telling who works for the Crown, who works for Shears and who is being a double agent out for him or herself!
I love that the characters from book one make an appearance in this story. I can’t wait to read book three to see what happens to everyone and what Maxwell’s secret is. Yes, you really should read book one to get to know all the characters. The adventure continues in book 2 with Charles looking for Shears and Raina. Secrets abound which brings danger to the whole family.
A little sadness and tragedy added to the characters depth made them even more lovable.
“You couldn’t heal those around you, you could only show them you are near them when they need you. Everybody must grieve in their own way.”
Definitely looking forward to the next spy romance by this author!
Usually I am not a major fan of historical romances but, the first one in the Romancing the Spies series from Laura Barnes, Rescued By the Captain, was actually a really gripping read for me so I was back for more with Rescued by the Spy. This one was not too bad, but not my favorite of the two.
In Rescued by the Spy we get the story of Raina LeClair and Charles Mallory. Raina is on a mission to find out who is responsible for killing her family. When she finds them she has a particular plan in place for them. Charles is on his own mission to find someone, only his is to find the person responsible for his own kidnapping. He was also left for dead. There is one small hitch to this scenario, he fell for his kidnapper, and it just happens to be Raina. Turns out Raina feels for Charles too but knows that she can’t be all that he needs. Will they be able to figure out how to make a relationship work and to trust each other?
Just when you thought that all was enough confusion to figure out…. BOOM… it gets a whole lot more confusion. I almost felt like these two could have their own spinoff miniseries. For me, this is what drug down this novel and made it a bit difficult for me to follow and read. I am hesitant going into the third novel.
Rescued By The Spy by Laura A. Barnes. Am intriguing and twisting tale this is sure to keep you interested throughout.
Raina is haunted by the murder of her family. She will stop at nothing to find the person responsible and bring them to justice. Even if that means kidnapping.
What she doesn’t expect is to find herself in the clutches of the person she held captive those years ago.
And when she finds herself as part of a treason plot things become much more dangerous. Raina has to learn how to trust Charles in order to protect herself. She also has to figure out the passion they both feel. Is it something to resist? Or something to be explored.
Having read Rescued by the Captain I was excited to read this next book in the series. I enjoyed this book even more. I loved Raina and Charles together. Their dynamic worked right from the first moment they met. The intricacies of the storyline was great, with the treason plot and the murders. I hope there is more to come in this series as it is an great series.

Rescued By The Spy ( Romancing the Spies #2) By Laura A.Barnes is the second book in the Romancing The Spies series. If you haven’t read the first book in this series I definitely recommend reading it as this picks up where the first book leaves off. I enjoyed this book as much if not a little bit more than the first one. I couldn’t get enough of Charles or Raina.Raina is after revenge for what was done to her family. Charles has strong feelings for her these feelings are distracting him from the treason that is threatens England. The chemistry between these two are on my Hot! Can Charles convince Raina of his love for her? Can she trust him with her heart? I highly recommend this Book especially if you want to know what happens next I can’t wait to read more from this author
Rescued by the Spy by Laura A. Barnes
5 Stars!!!!!
I was in total historical romance heaven here. This is the second book in the Romancing the spies series and I can say this book didn’t disappoint. I was transfixed from page one same as I was with the first. I was drawn into the world of intrigue and drama. I must admit that I was quite confused at some points who were on the right sides. This author has such a refreshing writing style that
draws you into the world she builds and keeps you transfixed.
I really was routing for Raina and Charles. There was just so much fire between these two that you just knew they had to be together. I quite liked the spy scenario in this book with the mix of historical intrigue and drama. I so look forward to reading more from not only this author but also this series. I really like historical romances with a strong story line and a complexity to them that brings the book and characters to life.
Laura A. Barnes’ Rescued by the Spy is the second book in the Romancing the Spies series; this historical romance follows secondary characters introduced earlier in the series: Raina and Charles. This story provides excellently written suspense and adventure while including a steady mix of tension, attraction and romance. The author sets the stage with scenes that grip your imagination, pulling you into the past as you embark on the journey these characters are trailing upon. It’s been awhile since I’ve read a historical novel that captured my interest as well as this novel/series has. Laura A. Barnes is a talented author and does an incredible job in adding the historical elements to make the story have that realistic aspect to it. Overall, a great story!

This is the story of Charles Mallory. He met and was intrigued by a mysterious woman at the end of the last book. He has been searching for her to see if what he feels is true. She is mostly one step ahead of him and she disappears usually just as he arrives in town. Frustration and Charles are friends!
Raina has revenge and only revenge on her mind. Well…..and maybe Charles. She can’t seem to get him out of her mind. Raina is a very resourceful gal and smart. Woo wee! She has to be with some of the stuff she pulls in this book. I’m not sure which Raina will prevail in the end…the revengeful Raina or the lover Raina…or that other Raina.
This is the second story of this series and it has a lot of intrigue in it. Everyone seems to be a spy. Some work for the crown others…not. Some of these characters are double or triple Spies. The characters are plentiful but if you read the first book you will be familiar with most of them. Maxwell! I struggle with him. He seems like the good guy…But is he the Bad Guy?
The writing flows nicely and I was engaged with the book. I struggled with the name switchings. In one sentence it’s Marcus then the next it’s Thorn. Same problem with Charles’ name. One minute it’s Charles then Maxwell. A bit confusing and making me reread the sentence the first few times it happens. This is nothing that wouldn’t make me read this. I just wanted to mention it.

Rescued by the Spy is the second book in the Romancing the Spies series by Laura A. Barnes. It is an intriguing and action-packed historical romance that has kidnapping, romance, mystery, suspense, adventure, drama, revenge, espionage, treason, disguises, secrets, and lies. This is the second book in the series, but it can be read as a standalone, although this book focuses on a different couple than the first book, I do recommend reading book one as there is a tie in/crossover/continuation to the storyline. I have really enjoyed exploring this series of period pieces, as Ms. Barnes excels in bringing the past to life and creating characters who are so easy to love.
Raina LeClair is not your typical demure young lady- oh no, there really is so much more to her than she lets on. She and Charles Mallory have an intriguing history that will propel this story into a fast-paced adventure that had me hooked right from the beginning. Where the story leads, and the surprising developments really made for a very entertaining and enjoyable read.
I have already begun devouring book #3, which looks set to be incredible!
Thank you, Ms. Barnes!
I give Rescued By the Spy by Laura A. Barnes, 4 stars.
*This review may contain spoilers from book 1.*
Raina is out for revenge. After mistakenly siding with the wrong man, she is now bent on ending his life for the death of her family. But ever since she got to know Charles more, she can’t help but have feeling for him. Although she knows he is better off without her. But why does he keep showing up everywhere she is?
Charles is obsessed. He cannot stop think of Raina. He was deathly ill when he last saw her, but he never forgot her. Now she’s gone. But he needs to know more about her and is determined to find her again. Luckily, he knows about her lust for revenge, so he decides to find her. What will happen when they finally meet again?
This is a wonderful addition to the series and it is really nice to see more about Charles and Raina. The story is a lovely historical romance with some action and suspense thrown in to keep it even more interesting. Raina is probably my favorite character so far and I was so happy to learn more about her. The romance between the couple is hot and heavy and while updated for this era, reminds !e of the Regent romance of the past.
This is a beautifully done historically romance and I highly recommend this to all romance lovers.
Rescued by the Spy (Romancing the Spies #2) by Laura A. Barnes was a steamy historical romance that was just as or may have been better then, the first.
Not my first read by this author or in this series. Be advised that though this book follow different MC’s, the actually plot is a continuation one from the first book, and even the way that Charles and Raina met, is a carry over. This book picks up were the first leaves off, so I do highly suggest reading the first book, as to not get the confused by that continuation plot, or romance.
I didn’t get to see much of Charles in the first book, as he was pretty much missing for, almost all of it. But through his sister and best friend, I did get to know him before his grant debut in this book. I very much like him as a character, and I loved him as the male MC. He was more on the charming side, and that worked well in his favour. There was just something about his overall character that really drew me too him, and as much as I loved Raina, Charles captured more of my attention and I loved reading his narrative. This book like the first is told in multi POV.
Raina, she wasn’t your normal gale, especially for that time period. I liked that about her. She was strong, a master of disguise, and pretty cunning. You could feel her love for Charles. And even though I wasn’t as drawn in by her narrative, I still enjoyed her as a character. Even more so when it came to her past, and her involvement in the grand scheme of things.
Overall, I very much enjoyed this book. It had all the cheesy, sicking sweet romance, that I loved from the first. Mixed in with a deadly plot, hidden danger, and spies not playing the the rules and, you got one hell of a read. I give this book my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval.
The story isn’t over yet, there is more to come and I can wait to read the next book in this thrilling, streamy series that has captured me body and soul.
Happy Reading

This is the second book that I have read in this series and again I absolutely loved it! I love historical romance and I am so excited to have found a new author to love! Rescued by The Spy can be read as a standalone. I loved Raina; she was a really great character who constantly had me guessing. I really liked Charles too and he definitely understood Raina more than she thought he did and he was determined to make her his. I loved the two of them together and I was rooting for the two of them the whole way through. The setting for the story was perfect and I love the authors descriptions – it felt like I was watching what I was reading! The storyline was excellent and the pace and flow of the book was fantastic. I absolutely know that historical romance fans will love this book and the added suspense running through the story adds something a little extra to it.
I am really looking forward to more from Laura Barnes in the future.

What do you do when the man you’re falling for puts his country before everything? This author has written a fun story about the historical world. Were ladies wore demure clothing and men presented themselves as gentleman but they were all players. Raina didn’t show her emotions easily and yet Charles could read her so easily. I liked that she wasn’t some damsel in distress and that she had backbone. Too many books I have read were the women of this period took what ever was handed to them. I have enjoyed every story so far from this author.
I thoroughly enjoy when a series continues and you get to see side characters from the first book in a main character role. Raina and Charles keep dancing around one another and I love that Raina will let nothing get in the way of her revenge. She crafts the most elaborate disguises and fools people she knows well time and time again. Even though she loves Charles more than anything, she knows he’d be better off with someone else and since she won’t rest until her revenge against the man who killed her family is complete, it’s just as well.
Charles has a job to do and is hunting down the same man as Raina. He has to follow laws much more than she but his is more of an assignment than a personal vendetta. Nevertheless, he is determined to make Raina his wife, but will he be able to before she gets herself into trouble even she can’t get out of? She’s going after the most cruel, cunning pirate of the times and Raina will need to keep her wits about her if she is to come out on top and unscathed.
